Peter Kay's new comedy series started last week, starring the two doormen, Paddy (Patrick McGuiness) and Max (Peter Kay), from Phoenix Nights.

It was very funny, and apparently gets funnier as the weeks roll on. The first episode was very much a scene setter but had some classic lines in it.

Paddy decided the only way to pull women at a nightclub was to dress as Sailors. Dressed immaculately in a Captains outfit he said, "All the ladies love a man in a uniform...." while an indignant Max - looking ludicrous in a sailor suit - bellowed indignantly, "Well why dont we dress as a couple of nazi's then eh? See 'ow we get on!"

When Paddy commented on Max's lack of personal hygiene in such cramped quarters (a camper van), Max looked affronted and yelled "Ow durrrrrr you! I'll 'ave you know, I have a stand up wash at this sink, once a week!!!"

The final scene where Paddy was watching porn called "Charlies Anals" was a classic ........

I completely forgot about this and was gutted when hubby told me I'd missed it. Oh I was out, now I remember why I missed it.

I am looking forward to the next one:)

I was a bit disappointed with it myself. We taped it because we spent all Friday night at the hosptal with my mum and I was looking forward to seeing it, I love Peter Kay but the fist episode of Paddy and Max fell well short of the genius that was 'Phoenix Nights'. Still, I'll give it another go this week to see if it improves.

I did enjoy it but don't think it lived up to the hype it got.

Will keep watching it though - even if only for the scene with the wee-wee drenched policeman

I was disappointed  i

In my opinion, there is one thing wrong with this show and thats the guy that plays the ever horny Paddy. He is simply an absolutely appalling comedy actor.

Whereas Phoenix Nights was funny all the way through, due to the brilliant comedy timing and lines given to ALL the actors on it...... only Peter Kay seems to be holding this new show together.

There WERE snippets of magic in it - Max's Magnet & Steel invention and the subsequent showing of the "storybook" was funny. Max's story (involving Potter and co in a club), about the girl he fell in love with was excellent. But that was it really.

I love Peter Kay. I think he is such a pleasant bloke, incredibly funny and he writes excellent material. What this new programme shows is that he needs equally good comedy actors around, for him to bounce off in order for the series to be consistently funny.

I hope he does another series of Phoenix Nights with Jerry, Ray Von, Spencer and the rest of the brilliant crew - and dumps Paddy.

I thought the first one was really funny.

And what about that music... and that strange dancing.... it looked a little Gay....But it was really funny.

The second was not that funny and as you said pandora the max and steel part did have it's moments.

Bye GG

At last! I get it!

Taped this tonight and based on my opinion of the first two episodes, almost didn't bother watching it, but I'm so glad I did, it was hilarious, Peter Kay at his best. The 'I guess that's why they call it the blues' sequence, complete with Paddy's mouth organ instrumental solo was sheer class, I was crying with laughter, a scene worthy of Phoenix Nights

I hope there's more of the same!

You have to watch each episode at least twice to get the benefit of this series. I can't agree about paddy being a poor comedy actor - I would say he is excellent.

max singing on Friday just gone was as good as "Angels" from Early Doors.

I love Max and Paddy me
