View Full Version : Meet Mrs Hamburger
This is Mrs Hamburger, our new addition to the family. As Mrs Hamburger was only 1 out of 6 bantam babies born yesterday - we have decided that she is to be the house hen. Our neighbour has 2 female Golden Hamburgs and 1 Rooster - both females are prolific layers and so Mrs Neighbour gave us 6 eggs to try in our incubator.

She is not a pretty girl is she?? But my gawd can she squawk!!
Mrs Hamburger was the sole product of the 6 eggs. We doubt she will integrate with the other 34 babies that are in various places round the garden/polytunnel [depending on age] - not only is she 4 weeks younger than the last lot - she is also a bantam - which is just a small sized chicken.
Mr F has made me promise to house train her!! Little did he know I had my fingers crossed behind my back, when I promised - so that means he will get really fond of her and then when I pretned to get sick of her I will pretend to chuck her outside - and he will go 'ooooooooooh nooooooooo you can't - I will clean up after her!!'
I am a wily old fox me!!:wink2:
This is how little she is:

And would you look at the mucky mare - standing in her chicken crumb!!?? She is about 2 1/2 inches tall and weighs less than my tweezers!!
[and yeah that is a Mrs Hamburger poo in the background!!]
Coastie 17-05-2005, 06:23 PM Bless.....Hamburger eh...better that than 'chicken dipper' I suppose!
LOL Flip, you've got Mr F sussed haven't you!
Welcome to the world Hamburger, although with a name like that I'd start running if anyone comes near you with a bap.

Marmoset 17-05-2005, 08:20 PM Lol she's sorta cute, but why the name ????
And how many house hens do you have ? :)
I have recently met my friend's fathers' chickens, well they are sort of like punk/rock chicks! he said they were Silkys, ...err, I want one, or two! they certainly were birds with attitude!
That aside, looking forward to updates on Mrs Hamburger, cant believe she is so tiny!

Marmy - she is so named cos she is a Golden Hamburg- oh I can't wait till she is older cos they are quite beautifully marked and coloured birds.
And we have never really had a proper house hen - she will be our first - although many of them have wandered in and made homes in various places - generally under Tiddles place at the kitchen table [where all the scraps land].
I was in our en suite once - where our laundry is - busy doing the washing when I heard an odd sound, and yeah cos this is a chicken related thread - you know what I am going to say - one of the nosey mares had wandered into the house and along into our room and into the en suite, and then cosied up on the plumbing behind the washing machine!!
I urge you all to get at least one - they are so funny and the loveliest companians!! Arrrrrhhhhhh:wub:
Andrea 17-05-2005, 10:25 PM Ooh Flip make sure you don't put any in the washing by mistake.
But a definate Awwwwwwwwwww.
That last photo, she seems to be looking at you thinking "What is this silly mare doing with a camera and a ruler up my ar$e":w00t:

LOL Andrea!!
I am sure she was saying exactly that - but that was not half as bad as having her down my 'non-existant' cleavage whilst changing the beds this evening!! I was trying to shut her up by putting her near to my heartbeat - it worked for a while, till I was jiggling the quilt into the cover and then all hell broke loose down the cleavage - so I had to return her to the squawky pen, next to the toaster in the kitchen.
Bonsai 18-05-2005, 09:26 AM Awwww bless her little heart. How gorgeous is she :w00t:
maxine 18-05-2005, 09:28 AM I was all ready to berate you for heartlessly naming a baby cow Mrs Hamburger, Flip!

Coastie 30-05-2005, 09:12 PM Ahhhh...although she does look like she's plotting something....watch out Flip!
A mere month ago Mrs Hamburger was a teensy chick herself - now she has two charges.
Baby Burger and Mary. Baby Burger is a week old Golden Hamburg, and Mary is a 24 hour old Mallard Duck that I hatched yesterday in the incubator - Mary is soooooo gorgeous you just want to sniggle up forever with her. I will post some piccies later on today - but prepare for the cuteness of the century!
Dah dah - here is Mary ...

Note the white and scabby bit on her insy winsy wing? The white bit is shell and the scabby bit is scabby! I had to help her out of her shell, she had struggled for nearly 14 hours and was exhausted.
But she is now best mates with Baby Burger and Mrs Hamburger - they are so cute together.
maxine 26-06-2005, 07:20 PM She is the absolute cutest Flip, but, god, you need a manicure, woman!

Well Marm - she is Mary for the time being, if she turns out to be male Clever Flippy has a Michael [name] in reserve for her.
And as far as being a live wire - she is the first bird I have bred who is so attached to the first thing she sees!! she is utterly adorable, Mrs Hamburger is her mother - there is no question!! Although she saw me first [really] I put her straight into the 'nursery' with baby burger and Mrs H and now Mary is well entrenched into 'chicken' habits!!!
jaycee 27-06-2005, 08:19 PM Flip, your babies are fabulous...............aaaawwwww!
Coastie 29-06-2005, 07:57 PM Personally Flip I think you're taking this whole new mother thing a bit to seriously!
