I have been getting a lot of cramp in my legs recently does anyone else suffer with this and anyone know how best to get rid of them. I have a sneaking feeling that sitting to long in one position is to blame.

lol ils!

I used to wake up in the middle of the night with cramp in the back of my legs at my calves. It was the sorest thing ever.
I went to the doctor about it cos I kept happeneing and he said it might be because I was getting dehydrated and not having enough salt in my diet. he said that i should drink water before going to bed (just make sure you don't pee the bed) and Ive not been bothered with it since.

Try looking here (http://www.mamashealth.com/mcramp.asp) maz, it might give you some help.

Quinine is the trick for cramp, but the tablets are only available on prescription.

Although tonic water contains quinine, so drink some of that and see if it helps.

In addition to drinking water, eat bananas...they have potassium...which helps with cramping. I think raisins have potassium too..

Oooh Maz, I ued to be a chronic sufferer of cramps - usually in my feet, but sometimes in my calves or thighs. I also once got cramp in my @rse (oh yes - and its excruciating)!

I sympathise, cos its horrible. Sometimes the ache can last for hours after the cramp has gone.

Everyone else has given you the answer though - salt and/or potassium. Sometimes dehydration can cause it, but upping the salt intake will naturally get you drinking more. Just add a pinch of salt to your dinner. Although the theory is that there is enough salt naturally in food that does assume that you are eating a balanced diet. If you are living on salads for example, your diet might be deficient in salt.

Tonic water is supposed to help as Andrea says, although I've never noticed much difference myself. Banana's definitely do and drinking water.

Good greif Karen - that sounds horrendous, extremely funny but very painful. When I get cramp in my toes, my toe bends downwards - what did your bottom do??

I used to get cramp all the time, in my legs mainly about twice a day for months. I bought some salt tablets to see if they worked, but one got stuck in my throat and it kinda put me off :bag:

It did eventually go on its own, but i still get cramp if ive been wearing high heels. Its when i finally take the heels off, about 10 mins later i get cramp !

Well, it was actually my left butt cheek. It sort of clenched - and then stayed cramped in postion for ages! It hurt like hell.

But on the bright side, it proved an excellent work-out and I ended up with 1 bun of steel!

Thank you all for the advice which I shall be taking. I don't put salt on my food so will try a little, and also bananas I knew they had pottasium in them and were good for hangovers but didn't knowthat was good for cramp as well.
I know I don't drink enough water so will up my intake and see if it helps.

Sympathise with the other cramp mentioned have suffered that one as well and it is excruciating.
