Just read in my local paper today that the sexist male voice is once again Sean Connery. Not too surprised at that but in second place is Robbie Williams!!! :glare: I do like his singing voice but his actual speaking voice is just awful! I have to say listening to him drawl his way through the part of Dougal on the Magic Roundabout really made me want to get up and leave. As I say, I have nothing against his singing voice but the thought of Robbie whispering sweet nothings in my ear would be a bit of a turn-off!

Tom Jones came third, Chris Moyles was fourth and even more shockingly David Beckham and Jonathon Ross made it into the top 6!! Who votes on these polls? What is sexy about David Beckham's voice and Jonathan Ross's come to that?

Where is Ewan McGregor who has an incredibly sexy voice and John Hannah who is the only reason I frequent Dynamic Earth as he does the voice-over (he does the voice-over for Deep Jungle), and Martin Shaw!

btw - Mariella Frostup topped the women's poll and Joanna Lumley was second.

So, who in your opinion has a sexy voice?

I find voices a BIG turn on! I find Scottish voices an even BIGGER turn on ... and yet I find Sean Connery could put me to sleep with his droning voice, he could make ANYTHING sound boring!

As for Robbie Williams - NOTHING (Do you hear me ILS!!) NOTHING is sexy about him ... except his back and that's only from a distance and cos he's walking away!

I'm not sure who in the public eye has a sexy voice at the moment, but I'd definitely put Ewan McGregor up in the top five!

As for the women's "sexy voices" - posh totty voices are obviously in ... so mine is probably out! (Cat you've got a posh totty voice ... and I think that's very sexy ... especially after 40 fags and 10 pints!!!!).

I was going to put Mr Paxman ... but then I worried that I might start to sound obsessed! I also always thought Malcolm Rifkind had a super sexy voice! :bag: :ninja: .... tell me he has? it's not just me who thinks so is it? I'd vote for him to be PM if he become leader of the tories just to hear his dulcet tones!

Ahh, but Robbie doesn't have a light saber does he (is there a smiley with a sticky out tongue?), and he hasn't gone round the world on his motorbike?! Sorry where Ewan is concernced Robbie is nowhere near the centre stage!

Speaking of which...............Gordon Brown has a lovely voice - Scottish again, I know, biased maybe but it is lovely. As has David Tennant, the soon-to-be Dr Who.

And Mr Bill Clinton, Ah did not have sexual liasons with that woman...now he could whisper sweet nothings in my ear......one of the most charasmatic people or what?! :bag:

i think Russel Crowe and Clive owen have sexy voices.

The scottish male accent is without a doubt the sexiest but i too think sean connery is a bit droning and ewan is a bit squeekY!

i think Bob Geldof has a real droning voice too i'm afraid!

The lead singer of the strokes Julian Caseblanca and Jim Morrison have the sexiest voices in the world though!

Well, I suppose it depends on the English accent - Brummie, Liverpudlian, Yorkshire are all turn-offs especially the Brummie drawl.........apologies to any Brummies, please don't take it personal!

For you maybe!

It would seem that I am not alone, according to this article:

Attitudes towards accents

Three quarters of people in the UK think they hear a lot more accents in everyday life and on BBC TV and radio than they used to, and 78% enjoy hearing a variety of accents.

In general there was a close link between pleasantness and prestige: an Edinburgh accent was valued highly on both counts, while Asian, Liverpool and Birmingham accents were all deemed both unpleasant to listen to and lacking in social status.

There were two major exceptions to the pattern. Whilst a London accent was thought to be very helpful career-wise, people did not find it nice to listen to. Conversely, respondents liked the sound of Newcastle accents but did not think they were very prestigious or useful when job-hunting.

It was thought that a Standard English accent would be more beneficial when applying for jobsAlthough the Queen's English beat other accents hands down in the prestige stakes, it was thought that a Standard English accent would be more beneficial when applying for jobs. The majority of those questioned liked the Queen's voice, but preferred Southern Irish, Scottish and New Zealand accents.

Scottish and Northern Irish respondents liked Scottish accents best of all, but English and Welsh voters put the Standard English accent out on top.

And yes, we all have our own opinions, I am not disputing that, let's face the poll I mentioned puts Robbie Williams and David Beckham in the top 6, which makes you wonder who was actually asked, and if they voted for their idols rather than the voice.

Sexiest singing voice for me has got to be Bryan Adams. Speaking voices, Colin Farrell, Gary Cole, Kevin Spacey and I used to find Chris Evans very sexy when he was first on the radio, before I saw what he looked like.

I just thought of my absolute top two sexy voices.

Jimmy Nesbitt - now theres a sexy sexy voice

Ray Winistone - his rough crackly sexy voice....ahhh...

I am afraid i'm not a huge fan of most english accents at all (the liverpool accent is sooooo grating) but i love the mancunian?? corrie accent.

Bella, forgive me for being a pedantic old fart but it did give me quite a worrying time trying to work out what was "sexist" about Sean Connery and Robbie Williams's voices - lol.

The light dawned eventually though and i realised it was a typo and should have been sexiest.

I used to love Richard Burton's voice

I can't think of anyone who I think has the "sexiest" voice. Paxman is probably up there, along with several other people who have already been mentioned, like Clive Owen and Russell Crowe (but only in Gladiator - where he used an English accent actually, which isn't his own).

I agree with Maxine that Chris Evans sounded gorg until you knew what he looked like.....

And I can't resist the sound of a French man speaking English with a French accent. Phwooooarrrrr!

On accents generally - with the exception of Cockney (which usually just sounds really naff) I love them! Geordie, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Aussie, Yorkshire.....the list is endless. They ALL have the capacity to sound really interesting and sexy. But they also all have the ability to sound dreadful.

It depends entirely on who is doing the talking.

I have to say though, that a "posh" version of any accent always sounds nicer than the "rougher" equivalent of the same accent. That's not me being a snob either - it just does!

Ooo voices??

I think John Sargent the ITV political correspondent has a voice to melt into. And Ben Fogle has a gorgeous voice. I don't detect an accent in either voices, but it is the deep resonance, with perfectly formed words that does ti for me!!
But I would have to say most Irish accents are the biggest turn on for me, as long as they are not harsh and gutteral. I am not a big fan of many english accents, although I love Liverpudlian and Yorkshire/Lancashire accents.

Whoops, thanks for pointing that out Critique, now I understand Groucho's post! Maybe some kind Mod could change the title. :wink2:

Mark Austin did have a lovely voice and have to say he looked okay too, especially with a tan! And I agree with you, Crystal Lights on Jimmy Nesbitt! And Flip, Ben Fogle has the voice, the face and the personality just to die for, he is just a honey!

I do remember once getting totally taken in by a voice on the telephone, he sounded absolutely gorgeous and booked myself in to underwrite a loan for him, imagine my horror when this dirty minger turned up, he looked like Shadwell (anyone remember him), he had dirty unkempt hair, glasses that were broken, his parka was all ripped, black trousers, white socks and black shoes - urgh............and I turned him down for the loan, on the basis of his black shoes and white socks!!!!

I think a French woman talking English is very sexy eg. the princess in Braveheart.

I love Sean Connerys accent....I really do love a good scots brogue..not the glasgow nut you job where they seem to talk through their teeth and grimace as they speak...but a lovely soft scots accent does it for me every time.

A soft irish accent is nice too, not northern like Ian Paisley - don't like that.

I also find sexy a proper cockney london accent...I like a bit of "Ello darlin, aint you gorgeous" and a brusk ruffle of the hair.

I don't like plumby posh accents...(I'm not posh Dol, I just refused to pick up the dreadfull Luton accent when moved here from Chester aged 5 - BUT thankyou very much for the compliment).

Oooh no - 'fraid that doesn't do it for me at all.

We are talking about just the voice here though. There are Cockney lads who are very sexy - but if I just heard the voice on the radio, without seeing the face or knowing the person, I wouldn't imagine it belonged to someone attractive.

Maybe that's 'cos I was brought up in London though. All the romance has gone. And I've met too many Cockney tw@ts......

I totally agree Bella. (You forgot Geordie) Although I have a slightly regional accent myself, I like to hear standard BBC English.

Although IMO the sexiest accents on men are North European. I like the clip of Germanic accents and personally find the lazy drawl of French not even slightly sexy, but can understand why it might be attractive when spoken by a woman.

Ahh, but I do like the Geordie accent, it has a kind of happy feel to it! And no before anyone says, I am not being biast towards Flip! I have really gone off the Liverpool accent, since that bint Shannon came onto Footballer's Wives - I don't even watch it anymore as I was sick of her whinning accent. It was almost as bad as chalk being scraped down a blackboard!

And Cat, I totally agree, why is it everytime they interview someone from Scotland, it has to be someone who speaks a totally different language to the rest of Scotland. I have to admit that A hang ma heid in shame when A hear those mingers speak! And they usually don't have any teeth either, and then suddenly everyone thinks that everyone from Scotland speaks and looks like that!
