Help me, you good, good people. Please!

I am going on holiday for two weeks on 31st May, and I have totally run out of anything good to read. I have perused the shelves at Waterstones and WH Smith but I haven't seen anything that inspires me.

I'm cr@p on holiday without a book. Seriously, it is a necessity!

Can you recommend something. Anything.

To give you an idea of my preferences, some of the books that I have thoroughly enjoyed in the past are:

The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
Angels & Demons - Dan Brown
Northern Lights - Philip Pullman
The Subtle knife - Philip Pulman
The Amber Spyglass - Philip Pullman
The Harry Potter stuff

Anything similar to the above would be spiffing! If nothing like that springs to mins, I quite like crime books and thrillers too.

There are other genre's I like e.g. I love classic literature such as Hardy, Steinbeck etc. but they are not really "holiday" reading. I want something that will interest me, without me having to think too much and without it being patronising.

Any suggestions??????

I haven't read any books that are similar to those lately...but one thing you could do is go to the Amazon site and if you look at the books you've listed...they always have that part where it says what else others have bought who have also bought that book. You could look thru those and check if any appeal to ya...

Depends where you're going on holiday Karen.

If it's somewhere exotic and perfectly lovely I'd recommend say, Bravo Two Zero, by Andy McNab - it's crap so the fact that you've only got one crap book to read would make me feel better about you being in a tropical paradise.

However, if you're going to spend a wet and windy weekend in Skegness in a caravan then I'd recommend something really really lovely like Tess of the D'ubervilles - cos you'd need something fabulous to make you forget Skeggy!

Hmmmm.....

KH...I to have enjoyed a couple of those books so I would say....take a leaf out of Flips book (t-he) and try an Ian Rankin DI Rebus book...I'm enjoying one of those at the mo.....easy read and a little intriguing....

Also I would recommend Larry Bond....kinda Tom Clancey without the deep and heavy politics....

Omerta by Mario Puzo (writer of the Godfather) is also very good...

and I enjoyed reading 'The Horse Whisperer' a couple of years back on holiday....

most of the John Grishams are easy reads and you can pick them up by the tun from charity shops....

I tend to buy holiday reads from charity shops as if they get lost or trashed it's not a great worry....I have to own a book before I can read it though...can't borrow from the library...I know I'm odd!

I was gonna say buy the new Harry Potter book, The half blood prince, but I've just googled and it doesn't come out until July 16th.

Not much use to you Karen is it, I shall now be quiet.:bag:
