View Full Version : Did You Know?
That you can renew your car tax online now?
I didn't! Mind you that could be because I this is the 1st time I have had to buy one for 2 years, due to the 1st years coming in with the car!

floopy 23-05-2005, 11:23 AM How do they cope with MOT certificates and stuff? Do you still have to post them off?
If it's anything like the online passport thing, it'll be a complete shambles.
Becks 23-05-2005, 11:26 AM Theres so much you can do online now, I can update my student loan details.
Its all very handy if you wish to become a hermit, you can buy all the stuff and get them to drop it at the end of the path up to your cave and do all your paperwork, banking and bills over the internet, even studying for degrees can be done over the internet and you can get your course books from amazon.
But I dont suppose hermits have much use for car tax.

No apparently your mot and insurance details are all registered on a database, so they can check them out and issue you with a disc in 5 days!
Bella 23-05-2005, 11:45 AM We just got the info through about the other day and I am sure Mr B ahs already done it as there is a new car disk on the shelf on the hall, and he usually asks me to go to the Post Office to get it, and I hate going as the Post Master is the rudest, most obnoxious man on the planet and his wife is just as bad!

Do you think that must be on the job description because in the two post offices around here, both postmasters are rude and obnoxious.
Bella 23-05-2005, 11:51 AM I think they must be watching too much Emmerdale and think they have to live up Viv Windsor. I actually go to other Post Office to post stuff and get my stamps, it is more out of my way but they are really friendly but unfortunately they don't do tax discs for some reason. So this on-line caper is very welcome to me as I don't have to suffer Mr Obnoxious Knickers!
I didn't know that ILS, and it's very useful info. Trouble is, I will have completely forgotten by next April when it's due for renewal.
Bonsai 23-05-2005, 05:26 PM You can also do it over the phone. It asks if you have a valid MOT and insurance, and you press 1 (or something) if you have. They are very trusting these days.

Bonnie, they check in on the database before sending the disc out, there is no way they would just trust you! (not you personally but anyone)
Bella 23-05-2005, 05:42 PM How does your MOT details get onto the database? We use a wee garage just round the corner from us and honestly stepping into it is like going back in time, they don't have computers or anything to put details of your MOT on it, is it something you have to do yourself? Your insurance details should be easy enough to access.
To be honest it is not a bad thing as hopefully it should stop anyone running around in an unisured, non-taxed, non-MOTed car..........well, at least I hope it does!
Actually I did - they told me at the Post Office when I tried to renew mine at the end of last month - and took an out of date insurance policy with me:rolleyes:
Unfortunately I'd left it too late though - and had to troop back with the correct policy next day!
Becks 23-05-2005, 07:14 PM BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!!!! :photo:
and I am not talking about the tv show
Well I did renew mine online a couple of days again and it did say that the insurance and mot was checked and verified, so I should recieve my disc in the next few days!
