View Full Version : Should I rename my cat?
floopy 24-05-2005, 05:28 PM I have a cat called MacDuff, who is commonly known as Duff. Gigi loves him, but she can't say Duff, so she calls him Buck.
Buck quite suits him cos he's a very camp cat, so do I rename the cat or not?
Sounds to me like Gigi has discovered his full name - Buck MacDuff. Good name, that!

That has a nice ring to it. I thought my friends cat was called cough and when I asked her why, did he have a cough when you got him, she said no its what she kept saying when he got in her way.

I agree! What a fab name! My friend used to have a cat called...wait for it.....Mrs Olive Peterson!!

Genius, pure Genius
No you can't rename your cat you stupid girl!
It would be catastophic for the poor thing, I bet it would rather have a catheter inserted with a cathode attached with a cation conductor attached making it caterwaul all night.
What are you going to do with all the other things Gigi can't pronounce properly...get them all changed as well!
TSK!
Becks 24-05-2005, 06:09 PM I would hate it if someone completely changed my name.
however when I was little we used to go vist Mrs Mcphadsion down the road from my granpas, she ended up being called Mrs Badger by us three and we still all call her that now. She finds it rather sweet, but noone else calls her it.

Please excuse my over-zealous friend, but she has a point. You should not change his him, for he was so named. However, calling him Buck temporarily will not affect him, IMO, because the main sound he will hear, ie the "u" remains the same. Gigi will learn his real name. Cat's also right on another point (pains me to say it). Will you start referring to yourself and Cockney as bwer bwer or doo doo? I think not.
Oh I don't know ladies! Our rabbit was named 'Babe' but I didn't like it so after a while I called her 'Mrs Rabbit'......
After a few months the kids started calling her Mrs Rabbit too and she didn't mind at all, in fact she didn't answer to Babe after a while!
Patsy 24-05-2005, 06:51 PM Do rabbits answer to their name then?
floopy 24-05-2005, 07:05 PM Will you start referring to yourself and Cockney as bwer bwer or doo doo? I think not.
No actually, because we're dardar and barbar already :bag:
Patsy 24-05-2005, 07:06 PM I wonder who's barbar.
Cat of course Gigi has absolute rights in the Cockle/Flop household - as does the Fredmeister in yours. If the cat is now referred toas Buck McDuff then Buck McDuff it should be.
We now have shodolas and mash, never sausages and mash they are shodolas - I even ask the butcher for shodolas - he knows what I mean - same wavelength!!
We also have manicals in our house, you know when someone walks over your grave?? Well they are from her on henceforth known as 'manicals' i.e. 'oooo I have just had a manical or a manical shiver'.
And as far as changing names my two have been known over the years as Jacko, Buddy, N, Nat, Red and Maggot - none of which are their real names.
Go for it Floop de Loop - see?? That is a play on Fleur de Lys! But nicer!!
floopy 24-05-2005, 07:08 PM I wonder who's barbar.
that would be me then :bag:
Dolores 24-05-2005, 08:55 PM i doubt the cat listens to Gigi much anyway. in my experience cats treat children with cold disdain. Keep him as McDuff!
The problem with cats is they neither respond to McDuff, Buck or come 'ere you mangy creature so I can shove some defleaing tablets down yer gob, so you may as well let her name him want she wants. It won't make any difference in the long run.
tonee 24-05-2005, 09:14 PM I like Buck McDuff. My own cat is called Sylvester or Sillie or the black ******* and doesnt seem to cause an identity crisis. Different forms of address have a certain allure!
Marmoset 24-05-2005, 09:15 PM Oh dear...Shodolas?...that sounds much nicer than what my mum called Chipolatas. They were known as 'DDS's' which I later was shocked to find out stood for Dog Dick Sausages.

karenh 25-05-2005, 06:35 AM I'd change it to whichever name you like best. Personally, I think McDuff is a better name than Buck (although Buck McDuff is the best of all). Gigi will "grow" into whatever name the cat has.
Whatever you decide to do though, I doubt the cat will care much.
Well you are all very daft. The obvious solution to this problem is to get rid of the cat :bag:
No cat ----- No problem.

Harsh but true :ninja:
floopy 25-05-2005, 07:11 AM I have 3 other cats as well :glare:
Buck and I had a long chat last night. Well, I chatted and he washed his belly. He seems to quite like his new name and does in fact answer to it.
Whilst testing, I discovered that he also answers to Doris Devine, Pearly Pantaloons and Butch Rhinestone.
I don't think it's going to be a problem :bag:
So you don't think you'll be taking my advice then??
if you don't want advice in the future please don't start threads asking for it.
Cockney 25-05-2005, 07:17 AM Well you are all very daft. The obvious solution to this problem is to get rid of the cat :bag:
No cat ----- No problem.
I suggested this once when they took to dive booming me from the top of the wardrobe in the middle of the night and was told that I would be leaving before them
Gelastic 25-05-2005, 07:20 AM Morning Cockney :D
Well at least Floops hasn't changd your name to Doris Devine or Pearly Pantaloons, that must demonstrate her love :D

Actually I think he would make a lovely Pearly Pantaloons :ninja:
Now you see what's happening. You need a mod to rename this thread
"Should I rename my Cockney?"
Yuo'd get hundreds of replies..... :kid:
floopy 25-05-2005, 07:46 AM So you don't think you'll be taking my advice then??
Has anyone ever? :bag:
Cockney 25-05-2005, 07:54 AM I am not sure if I should be flattered or upset http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_20_4.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm22755GB)
floopy 25-05-2005, 07:56 AM Be flattered, but don't, whatever you do, start that thread :bag:
but don't, whatever you do, start that thread :bag:
Floops I hope you know him really well - I just have this feeling in my water that when I come back here this afternoon - there will be a thread 'Re-name Me'!! I hope I am wrong - this however is uheard of!! [tee hee]
floopy 25-05-2005, 08:13 AM It all depends how bored he gets during the day.
I can only advise him :ninja:

floopy 25-05-2005, 09:13 AM oh no :wallbash: You just had to give him the idea, didn't you!
