View Full Version : Ultra cheap broadband - hooray!
Blink 26-05-2005, 08:58 PM Me so happy.
Got a broadband connection at home today. 1Mb for a tenner a month. I don't no longer feel like a second-class internet citizen. :kid:
If anyone's interested, I'll let you have the details of the ISP. I get £20 for making referrals, and I'll happily split that with anyone should they want to join up.
Mind you, this is not a recommendation as yet, since I don't know how good their service is personally. (I checked out revies before taking the plunge though, and their customers generally seem happy.)
This is probably a very boring thread, but I just had to spread my joy. :D
That is a good price Blink!
I pay £25per month for 2MB....
I don't have broadband yet, but hoping to convert soon. Apart from speed, what difference does the MB size make?
Blink 26-05-2005, 09:45 PM It's just speed.
Ooh - I forgot to mention - my broadband service is also unlimited; ie no download restrictions.
Blink 26-05-2005, 09:46 PM I pay £25per month for 2MB....2 meg isn't available at my exchange yet... :(
Unfortunately I do have a download restriction, but as I don't really download anything it is not a problem - as yet!
Critique 26-05-2005, 10:17 PM No restrictions Blink, that seems a brilliant deal. Who's it with if I may ask?
I pay £27.99 pm for 1 mb and the highest download allowance from Wanadoo but it's still restricted to 30 mb pm!
I don't use it but my son is networked to me and he used to download movies and loads of music but he doesn't do it now. I should consider changing I suppose but tend to just keep paying up.
floopy 27-05-2005, 06:56 AM Blinky, can you let me who who they are?
I'm going to change ISPs when we move (Wanadoo are okay but they dont inspire me particularly and I don't like maroon as a colour :bag: ).
Cockney 27-05-2005, 07:01 AM At the mo we are with Wanado 27.50 a month
And our phone is with B T which is a £10 a month line rental but we pay for our calls buy Home call which come to around £5 -£10 a month you have to have a B T line but the calls are cheaper than B T and some of them are free at certain times of the day its a lot cheaper than B T call charges
But at the new house I have signed up just to Home call which is 1mb broadband unlimited and all our calls are free for 19.99 but you still have to have a B T line at £10 a month
but I would like a look at your one Blink if they do the phone calls as well
floopy 27-05-2005, 07:13 AM I already said that :bag:
Cockney 27-05-2005, 07:21 AM I already said that :bag:
sorry I think we where posting at the same time touchy or what
floopy 27-05-2005, 07:52 AM S'awright darlin, I thought for a moment therre you were tyring to over-rule me:gunsmilie
Blink 27-05-2005, 09:09 AM A good place to start when looking for a broadband provider is the independent ADSL Guide (http://www.adslguide.org.uk). That's how I found my broadband provider, E7Even (http://www.e7even.com). The reviews on ADSL Guide seemed okay, and E7Even are wholesaling BT broadband products, so they should be fairly reliable and problems fixed quickly. Technical support is via a premium rate number, so I wouldn't recommend this if you think you're likely to need technical support a lot (but there is an email address for support too, and they seem to be good at replying).
The offer I signed up to is limited; £240 up front month for a 2 year contract - free connection and free modem. It's the 512k service, but there's also a free upgrade to 1Mb (not sure how long that's for - possibly just for 2 years).
If anyone decides to go for it, please quote my referral code, 707286. That way, they'll send me a £20 discount, which I'll happily split with you, making your broadband £10 cheaper.
Seems too good to refuse, really!
Sounds good - but I'm happy with my ISP - £22.99 a month (including £1 for a domain name). 512K at the moment - but they are in the process of upgrading everybody to 2Mb at no extra charge.
Critique 27-05-2005, 06:38 PM It does sound a good deal but the 2 years' payment up front would be a problem for me really. Also, on the cynical side, what if they did happen to go down the pan? (not that it's very likely).
Oh well, 2 years on when I'm still forking out nearly 3 times as much and they're still going strong I will wish I'd had the money to do it now - lol.
Gelastic 27-05-2005, 07:01 PM I couldn't afford that all at once either - but it sounds fab.
I'm with demon at the moment and paying £29.99 for 1mb - but unlimited download, which is important for me. Am hoping they'll do free upgrades to 2mb, as a few other companies seem to be.
I am with Ntl. I have no idea about speed, cost or anything else. I come down the stairs in the morning, I flick the switch, the pooter comes on and I log onto SO. That's all I need to know. :bag:
Oh and I sometimes go mad and send an e-mail or two.............
Coastie 27-05-2005, 08:04 PM If and when I get a line into the loft room I'll give you a PM Blink....until then...it's just SIMs and screenplays on the home PC! :)
Andrea 27-05-2005, 11:21 PM That sounds a brilliant deal Blink, but unfortunately the upfront payment would hit me.
I know I'm paying more in the long run, but it's a monthly jobbie that I can manage.
I'm with virgin at £17.99/month with a 6GB maximum download which I don't think I'll go over, as I don't use the internet alot. Apart from coming on here, of course:w00t:
