Sorry if I offend any cat owners in here, but I wish that people would keep their cats in their house if they want them as pets and not allow them to poo everywhere! I have just been gardening and there is cat poo under all my trees and shrubs and it stinks, and also is a danger to my kids. :ranting:

If anyone has any good ideas how to keep cats away please enlighten me!

You can get something from a pet shop or a garden centre...its like green crystals that you scatter around where they like to go.

Cats don't poo in their own gardens.

Hmmmm it isnt nice is it. Luckily my cats stay indoors, but we get a lot of the neighbouring cats visiting our lovely flower beds. You can buy a powder in pet shops to sprinkle on your borders and that supposedly works. Im trying to think of something else though. Im sure there is something that everyone would have in their kitchen that works too ... but for the life of me i cant remember what it is !!!

Also - if you ever see the offending cat in the garden, a short burst of the hose pipe over them means you probably wont see them again.

Failing that ..... get a dog :ninja:

I personally don't like cats, inasmuch as I like all animals and would never hurt one, but if one species had to be erradicated... :ninja:

That said I think it's a bit an to keep them indoors, unless they have to be indoor kitties, and if you let them out unless you're a professional tracker I don't see how you can clean up after them - no matter how yucky it is for everyone else.

I think Bonnies suggestions might help - particularly the dog :wink2:

Tigger, fill three or four clear plastic bottles with water and lie them horizontally around the area. Used lemonade bottles are ideal. Cats don't like them. I know it sounds weird, but it works.

mine used to! so this year now that she's gone to that kitty tray in the sky I'm fully expecting all the other cats to come into our garden! :ranting:

My rabbit is far too lovely and friendly to scare off the cats! i agree with Fee a water pistol is the best deterrent and it's fun for the kids too! (although you must supervise them!!)

We don't have a cat problem, but I have talked to people who have had in the past, and two 'remedies' I have heard about are:

1] planting the plant 'Catnip' - I have no idea what it is or what it is like - but apparently Cats don't like the smell!

2] and the other is orange peel, again it is a smell thing - just sprinkle lots of orange peel around the garden.

Good luck Tiggs!

Flip, I wouldn't plant catnip, end result would be scores of tripped-out cats rolling with abandon amongst it ! lol

Water pistol is best, specially if you get em by surprise!

Other things are as you said, orange peel, holly leaves acattered around are good too.

What is Catnip though?

I dont know what it is, but Catnip is in most cats toys. It makes them go a bit la la and bouncy. I think its a herb, but i dont really know !!!
