I love going to concerts as many of you know!

So I was wondering who you have seen in concert and if they were any good?

Andrea

My most recent one was the Pretenders with Midge Ure supporting and it was ace, it was one of those outside concerts.

Also, Rolling Stones, Stereo MC's and in my youth Terence Trent Darby:blush:

Ive only been to two concerts.

One was an HSBC 'doo' which starred Robbie Williams, All Saints, Five and many others when they had just started to become famous.

The other was Bon Jovi

Yonks ago I went to see Spandau Ballet, but only cos my friend loved them, and also Imagination for the same reason.

I must admit to being a bit of an old misery guts when it comes to that sort of thing as I just hate to be surrounded by loads of people clapping and jigging about and generally enjoying themselves!

I have never been to one either, but I aim to remedy that in NZ. It's easier there as you just buy tickets in a normal music store, none of this booking months in advance via a huge agency or venue :)

Oh God - I can't remember them all!

Although I don't live there now, I ws brought up in South London very near to the Brixton Academy and at one point in my life was there almost on a mothly basis to see one gig or another. I haven't been to a live gig for a few years now (excluding my mates band), but barring festivals etc. the best ones I've been to in my years are:

The Jam (my first! Ooops - showing my age!)
Suede
Cast
James
Smashing Pumpkins
Greenday
Elton John (not my choice - went with clients - but unexpectedly good!)
Happy Mondays
M People (another client one - another very good surprise)
U2 (f. cking fantastic - and I didn't even like them at the time!)
Anna / Son of Walker (same band, different name. My mates band. They aren't exactly.....mainstream. But they're very good)

Worst ones......

Whitney Houston
George Benson
Celine Dion

All Corporate Entertainment do's. All rubbish!

Hey Taffy.
If you got drunk with Ian Gillan, that must have cost you a fortune  That gut can sure hold is Booze. I have met him myself and like you say, hes a nice guy. I wouldn,t like to be on the wrong side of him though. Last week at a gig in Plymouth, he hit one of the bouncers over the head due to the guy getting heavy handed with some of the audience. :)

I've meet him three times. Twice in Rio (Brazil) back stage after a Gillan band gig we left with the cleaners a 3AM.
I invited him onboard the following nite, we exchanged postcards for a while and I meet him again in Plymouth (1996 tour) after he sent us comp tickets with a back stage pass :drinking:

You I like! I'm going to See blink in December and Green Day in January.

I've also been living in and out of concerts forever and have been to reading ect, though my most recent concert for a band band would have to be Evanescence. I got right up to the barrier at the stage, it was awesome.

I wish I had enough money to go see Muse aswell though =\

I love Blink 182 Kelly, so does my step daughter who is 16, her Dad calls them a "boyband" to wind me up - and unfortunately I bite everytime  Miss Q has got the Evanescence CD, so we play that quite loud when her Dads out

I was a bit bemused by the Papa Roach fans in their boiler suits and gas masks when I saw them at Reading, but when they came on stage I realised I knew and liked their music!!

My problem is, I love the music but half the time I dont have a clue who it is - I nearly missed out on Mercury Rev at Glastonbury for the same reason - but stumbled across them by chance!

Ohhhhh I m sorry Bridge, but I did chuckle when I read that.......

I categorise people into music, rightly or wrongly, and it reminded me of what I said to Mr Q when our new neighbours moved in, he asked me what they were like and I said "well he looks like a Status Quo fan" and funnily enough, Mr Q knew where I was coming from......then back in the summer, they had a BBQ and so the music could be heard...I was a little disappointed as I was a little off mark in the band name, but I wasnt far off - he is in fact a SLADE fan

I bet you really thought you had me there didn't you, but no I just quoted someone else but couldn't be arsed to use the quote tags where as if you read it, you may have worked that out, but just for you:

Greenday
Blink 182
Papa Roach

Woo yeah I'm going to see Blink in a week!

And yeah they are kinda pop-ish. They're not as punk as some of their fans think they are but hell I still like them and I don't have to justify my opinion.

And Haydon if you're around check your ****ing email. I did a design for RGT in .CSS. I was going to do it in .PHP but thought i'd try something different for a change. Had to use a javascript to get the navigation working in ie but at least it works.

Yes but for someone so fastidious about band names (as you appear to be) I would've thought that it would have annoyed you to type "Greenday". Oh well.

I've never been that great a music fan but I have been to a few concerts in my time:

Cliff Richard - twice (my mums a fan and dragged me along as a child...no really she did have to drag me!)

Delirious? - very, very good Christian band who out sell Robbie 2 to 1 in the US!

Maroon 5 - freebie...and very good!

Generally I go to local pubs and see my friends bands or local groups perform, as quite frankly they are better than half the bands in the charts at the moment and I don't have to pay to see them!

Might be going to a Stanglers gig next month but not sure yet.

Oh heck, where do I start?

Michael Jackson x2 (both freebies, and forget his lifestyle, he puts on the greatest concerts)
Whitney Houston - good, but a prima donna and spoilt brat
The Quo - loads of times - always great
The Moody Blues - Heck, I was a groupie for them! LOL -more times than I can recall
The Beatles - way back
The Rolling Stones

I could go on and on, mostly from back in time, but you know, the best of them all is one many will never have heard of these days, a Danish guy called Victor Borge, he had the whole audience in tears of laughter, he was a one off, and utterly brilliant!

I've only been to two myself... 10 years ago I went to see Phil Collins in the Point. I was 15 at the time and the ticket cost IR£27.50... i remember my friends mum bought us the tickets and we had to pay her back 50p a week!! It was the best concert. I don't know how being 15 but we were huge fans and stood open mouthed for about 20 mintues when he came on stage! we were front row center, and I dare say we stood out being kids and everyone else was middle aged! Phil talked to us throughout the concert and gave me his drumstick in the middle of 'take me home'... after much persuasion we got him to give my friend the other one!

the other one was last year i think... went to see eminem, big fan but it was a freebee. it was a bit **** as there were thousands there!

never seen anyone in concert - not a sausage. Had a chance back in school to go and watch Bez & Co. when the Happy Monday's were "performing" at the G-Mex. I'm of the old-fashioned belief that music should be heard and not seen.....I'd have gone to Woodstock though - without a doubt.....without a moment's hesitation.

I'd consider Alice Cooper and Kiss, but i can't think of anyone beyond those who I'd oblige by paying through my teeth to go and watch them......oh and Tom Petty - i'd go and see him.

Went to see Feeder last night, truly amazing. Played a few off Echo Park, which is the only Feeder album I have, and I don't know any of their other songs well, but I liked the others they played!

I went a bit gig mad recently but for pure feel good, Tears for Fears were absolutely excellent, great looking, great vocals/arrangements and accomplished musicians. Best gig I have ever been to.

Saw Liam O'Manloai, from Hothouse Flowers, that guy is fantastic as a solo performer. Same kind of charisma as Michael from INXS.

Had the chance to go see Hot House Flowers in the late 80's when they were big, but sadly it clashed with my trip abroad. but the guy has a great voice and i agree with you about the Micaheal Hutchence charisma.

I thought they ok SF, I didn't actually like them back in the olden days but they certainly got the crowd going last night. It was really only Les McKeowen (the lead singer) and a backing group not the original Rollers and no they didn't wear the tartan cut off trousers!
