View Full Version : What are your favourite websites? - Apart form this one!
Voice of reason 18-11-2004, 04:10 PM Which websites do you visit a lot? Is there anywhere that you find particularly interesting or useful on the WWW that you'd like to tell others about? I am a big 'Amazon' fan and can spend ages browsing the books and music sections and I also like 'Lakeland Limited' especially for presents and craft stuff for Ellie. I also use UpMyStreet.com for useful local info' and Blink's babies site is on my favourites too at the moment. Let'sSingit.com stops me going mad trying to remember which song a particular lyric comes from, so that's quite handy too!
I'm currently using a few NZ sites, the most useful being one which tells me the current time in NZ (worldtimeserver.com) which is helpful before making phone calls and XE.com, the universal currency converter site as well as a few property sites and others that relate to the area we are moving to, such as the local newspaper's and school's websites and tourist information stuff.
So how do you spend your browsing time when you are not posting on SO?
sheoque 18-11-2004, 04:55 PM Its sad but true but apart from work and family info stuff this little ol site is about it. I click on to give abreak when writing. If I have a favourite I have had to look at lately its about cushings and the message board section on clothes swap is so human its wonderful. It is a great site built purely to help others.
Blinks babies are a big feature too and the little children like the pics printed off, the little boy we seem to have aquired HAS to blow a kiss to the babies before bed most nights.
Good thread Voice
Shark_Attacks 18-11-2004, 05:05 PM www.geocities.com/shark_profiles :) lol!
You better sign the guestbook! Please, it's been very lonely of late.
My two other sites I can spend hours is Cucina Direct and Delia Online.
Does the mad shark ever load Sharky?
I do regularly read several other sites and contribute to a few now and again, but SO is definitely the main site I use and is probably the one I've been visiting the longest.
I've been looking at holiday sites recently, but the amount of information available is almost overwhelming and I end up getting more confused than ever. I think it might be easier just to go the the local travel agents and ask for a brochure!
Shark_Attacks 18-11-2004, 08:08 PM Thanks for signing Noxy, you have indeed found the fountain of youth!
Yup, the mad shark thing is working fine here. Maybe it doesn't want to work for you because of the 'shark steak' comment?
ebay. It gets very addictive.
I prefer here tho, its cheaper

Great site Sharky!!!
I was a good girl and I signed your guestbook, just as you ordered ;)
Andrea 18-11-2004, 09:34 PM When not on here I am often on sites that involve money unfortunately.
E-bay is visited a bit. An auction site for computer stuff I visit called morgan-auctions, I bought my digital camera from there at a good price. It's all re-conditioned or returned goods. I'm looking for a printer so that is visited quite often at the moment.
As is Amazon, great place.
Also always get an update on Blinks babies, good to hear they are both back together Blink.
Sometimes visit the radio 2 site.
I also visit up my street and rightmove at the moment, just to get an idea of houses available for a possible move in a couple of years time.
And also at the moment anything that will give me any ideas for a Xmas present for the inlaws.
Shark_Attacks 18-11-2004, 09:49 PM Thank you Voicey, Ilsy and Cat :)
Good site Sharky. I didn't know that a bull shark could survive in salt and fresh water. And those hoax pictures made me shiver even though they were fake!
tigger 19-11-2004, 07:10 AM Great site Sharky, only I couldn't sign the address book as it was full.
I come on here and read another forum (LivingTV) and of course Blink's Babes site, and I might surf a bit, but that's about all.
maxine 19-11-2004, 07:13 AM At the moment I'm doing a computer course on the internet so I'm spending a lot of time on the Vision2Learn website.
And as I'm job hunting I'm also looking at recruitment sites. Apart from that there're a couple of chat forums that I visit but rarely post on.

This is the main forum I visit although I do post on one other forum and read a couple of others!
As for other websites I visit, I have a huge list in my favourties and like Blink all organised in to different sections
Music sites - Will Young, Robbie, Donny etc
Info sites - Poscodes, Directory Enquires, Dictionary, BBC news etc
Shopping sites - Argos, Index, Woolies etc (although I know use Haydons links if I can)
TV Programmes - Corrie, IAC, X Factor etc
Local sites - colleges, uni (ok not local but needed all the same) local cinemas etc
And last but by no means least.............
Footie sites - Seagulls site, son's footie site etc
Bella 19-11-2004, 02:47 PM Voice - I use a few good craft sites, that are a lot cheaper than Lakeland and most of them have free delivery. I'll pm you the sites.
I use craft sites for my cards, bead sites for bead-making and a parenting site to sell my nappies. I have now stopped using the nappy sites and everytime I looked at them I had to buy a nappy! I now have enough nappies to probably cloth about 3 babies! Still when it comes to potty-training I should be quids in! :wink2:
At the moment I am doing some Christmas shopping so Amazon, CD Wow and sites like that are being frequented!
Oh and Flip, I am with you on the Delia site, I use this site all the time to catch up on recipes. And talking of food Valvona & Crolla is another site I use, but the shop is so much better!
Voice of reason 19-11-2004, 05:10 PM There's some great new ones been posted here for me to try now :)
I'll certainly be adding the Directory Enquiries one as I really resent having to ring 8888888888888888888888888 or whatever it is these days to speak to someone in Bombay and ask for a local number.
I never ring Directory Enquires as I resent the charge and always use the online site.
*just a useless bit of info for you all now - I used to be a Directory Enquires operator many moons ago (when it was free) *
Hey, Blinky some of those are in my favourites too. How Stuff Works is a brilliant site and it explains things so well that even I can understand it sometimes.
I use symatec for the email hoaxes, but I'm going to have a look at the one your recommend.
BBC news is on my favourites list at work as it's ok to read that at lunchtime.
I remember looking at Ugly Cars and finding it very funny - Do they update it as new eyesores are produced?
