View Full Version : Derek
floopy 01-06-2005, 09:33 PM Can't believe he hasn't got his own thread yet.
Actually I had high hopes for Derek, but he's let me down and become a bit dull.
Boo.
Groucho 01-06-2005, 09:35 PM Typical boring Tory:bag:
Only marginally more interesting than a typical boring socialist :bag:

Boo.
me too Floopy. I thought he was going to be wonderfully camp and intelligent but so far he's just been camp and quite churlish ...we don't wont rule makers in there ... we want rule breakers!
Let Derek out ... he doesn't belong in there!
floopy 01-06-2005, 09:39 PM He really doesn't fit does he?
Shame, cos he had real potential but Kemal has already taken the pantomime dame role and he's left lurking in the wings as understudy.
Still, the best quote of the series so far goes to Derek - it was something along the lines of:
"And what about that Leseley one. She's the original fishwife. Tits hanging out, effing and blinding all the time, pants riding up her ar$e"
bridge 02-06-2005, 02:04 PM Derrick makes me laugh ,he is so camp, i think Camilla should have married Derrick instead of Charles, two annoying ti-ts together.

Boo. Oooh Floopy, he has perked up a bit today apparently.... :wink2:
floopy 02-06-2005, 03:57 PM Well I did read that he was being though of by Mary and Craig as being one of the "triad" - him, Makosi and Kemal. Can't say I've seen much evidence of it, but let's hope so. :pimp:
isleofweather 02-06-2005, 04:31 PM He is such a stereo-type for someone who thinks himself unique. Typical poofter if you ask me - all oohs and aaahs and this and that. I can just imagine his little minamalist flat with a copy of wallpaper on the coffee table next to his china cup of camomille tea - yuk
and I wonder what speeches he wrote, i'll bet they were fairly mundane ones and not the powerfull ones he alludes too. :mad2:
Dolores 02-06-2005, 04:39 PM I still can't figure out what he's doing in there. He's getting more and more "old womanish" by the hour. And his bossiness is stiffling the other housemates.
secrets 02-06-2005, 09:52 PM Sorry but i cannot 'get' Derek at all.
He is far to 'affected' for me.
Derek is suuperbly wonderful, who called him a pofter?? oh yeah it was isle of weather, well done mate cos Derek is a poofter of Leslie Philips genre - a more perfect poofter could you not find in a shop that specialisised in poofters.
Keep him in forever!!!
I have just watched last nights show and Dereks stint in the diary room made me roar! "I'm so excited I could have sex with a woman" and his played down jubilations.
I like Derek.

I like Derek.
I missed why he was so excited - could someone fill me in ? I love Derek too. He often manages to make me laugh, and i like the way he often takes control. I mean, those HM's need someone to attempt to control them.
I also adore his dressing gown. Is gown spelt right, as it looks wrong :ninja:

He was so happy that he wasn't up for eviction and came into the diary room to jubulate in private.
I've just checked the spelling of gown for you:
gown (gaun)n 1. loose flowing outer garment 2. woman's (long) dress 3. official robe, as in university etc.
You can use the word gown with confidence now Bonny.

Gelastic 05-06-2005, 06:43 PM I often look at things I've written and think they're spelt wrong - although, to be fair, in my case they often are :D
Derek is okay I think, which is annoying because I wanted to dislike him so much. But at least he has interesting things to say, and doesn't squeal a lot.
Ceridwen 06-06-2005, 11:22 AM I am still LOVING Derek. I really, really want him to win...I think he is fascinating, a genuine English eccentric.
maxine 06-06-2005, 12:08 PM I liked Derek when he first went in, but his constant looking down his nose at everyone and general tosserishness is getting on my tits now. He's mentioned a couple of times about people's lack of communication skills, but can't seem to speak to anyone without making it sound like he's issuing an order.
but can't seem to speak to anyone without making it sound like he's issuing an order.
... or sounding incredibly patronising!!
I still like him but he is awfully patronising to the younger hm's - maybe they deserve it maybe they don't - but I just wonder whether this is part of his eccentricity?
Ceridwen 06-06-2005, 12:26 PM I agree that Derek SHOULD be patronising and give orders - he is the most intelligent and sensible person there by a long chalk!
Bella 06-06-2005, 12:28 PM I agree that Derek SHOULD be patronising and give orders - he is the most intelligent and sensible person there by a long chalk!
Which makes you wonder what on earth he is doing there?
Ceridwen 06-06-2005, 12:29 PM I have wondered what Derek is doing there, and I put it down to his eccentricity.....either that or it is some bizarre way of bringing politics to young people!

Well, the Conservatives have to try something - do you reckon that Michael Howard pulled a few strings to get Derek in there?
Gelastic 07-06-2005, 07:58 AM After the first show i watched for a while on E4 and he was talking to Kemal and saying that he hadn't been at all interested on being in BB but he was talked into it by someone. This someone even sent a car for him... I wondered if Endemol approached him?
On the American survivor series at least half of the contestants are rumoured to have been approached in bars etc by "talent scouts".
floopy 07-06-2005, 08:06 AM I don't like Derek anymore, he's pants and boring.
Gelastic 07-06-2005, 08:08 AM **snigger**
isleofweather 07-06-2005, 09:08 AM I agree that Derek SHOULD be patronising and give orders - he is the most intelligent and sensible person there by a long chalk!
Sounding posh is not a qualification of being intelligent - I find him boorish and rather unpleasant. If he was more mature and clever then he would not assume any airs and not get annoyed with people for solely being young and different.
He is an elitist snob who seems not to want to learn from this experience but wants others to learn from him.
Ceridwen 07-06-2005, 07:51 PM I don't think he's unintelligent - he seems to make a lot of sense to me. I am still loving the guy, I think he's great.
After the first show i watched for a while on E4 and he was talking to Kemal and saying that he hadn't been at all interested on being in BB but he was talked into it by someone. This someone even sent a car for him...
According to Christine Hamilton on BBLB she talked him into it:ohmy:
isleofweather 08-06-2005, 01:57 PM Derek the Reptile has a Butler
What an idiot
maxine 10-06-2005, 06:50 AM I officially loathe Derek now. He's a nasty, rude git who's constantly looking down his nose at everyone and passing judgement. A complete tosser. And his voice is really starting to grate. Who really talks like that? It just doesn't sound natural. I think he had a few to many elocution lessons.
isleofweather 10-06-2005, 08:09 AM I hope everyone was as shocked as I was at vile Derek's outburst at Sam last night. Nasty vindictive and totally over the top. :ranting:
He has sealed his fate and is now a shoe-in to get the boot tonite and Oh how I shall enjoy that.
Bonsai 10-06-2005, 08:19 AM I was quite shocked at the way he spoke to Sam last night. I mean, dont get me wrong, if i were in the house i think i would of commited her murder by now - but he was very spiteful towards her. And the way he slagged off her food in the bedroom before hand. At least she is trying.
Derek was well out of order to Sam last night. :pooh:
maxine 12-06-2005, 08:58 AM I get very irritated with people who say they want to go. Have they never watched this programme and seen what it entails? And why not just go? Please, Derek. Just go.
I'm really getting fed up of Derek.
He hung around with Lesley and Craig, I wonder why? The gruesome twosome, bitchy and stupid. I wonder if Derek thinks that makes him look intelligent
isleofweather 13-06-2005, 08:30 AM I get very irritated with people who say they want to go. Have they never watched this programme and seen what it entails? And why not just go? Please, Derek. Just go.
SO far Mary said she wanted to go, lesley said she wanted to go and Craig said he knew he was going to be nominated.
The safety nets just keep coming. The Derek the Reptile was just getting his net out for an airing prior to being pushed, asnd oh boy is he going soon.
Groucho 13-06-2005, 10:07 PM Derek really is a complete and utter patronising tw@!
His pointless pontificating is seriously starting to remind me of Chis Eubank!
Lots of words, but they make no bloody sense at all!
maxine 14-06-2005, 07:02 AM His pointless pontificating is seriously starting to remind me of Chis Eubank!
My husband said exactly the same thing last night, Groucho!
Doesn't Derek just love the sound of his own voice? He's so boring. I wonder if Science was actually listening to anything last night or whether he can tune Derek out.
maxine 14-06-2005, 07:37 AM Oh, and his performance in the diary room about sharing his food with the others - didn't follow that through did he? I don't think Anthony and Roberto were planning on foregoing their food if they couldn't share - and who can blame them.
I'm finding Derek and Roberto pains in the **** and I hope they go soon.
isleofweather 14-06-2005, 08:01 AM Last night Derek could not contain himself, he so wanted others to know that he eat better than this and that he was not impressed - whilst he pretends to be all posh his non-posh roots are showing.
A real posh person would have eat and been grateful but Derek was worried that if he had been impressed someone may have said "I thought you would have expected better"
In other words he lives in the fear of being found out to be common
he is a a silly mary and no mistake
Pandora 14-06-2005, 08:54 AM My husband said exactly the same thing last night, Groucho!

I think Derek's native american nickname is "Talking Boll*cks" isnt it? Science was practically comatose during the completely incomprehensible, drunken pontificating last night.
I dont think I have ever listened to anyone speak for two minutes before, and not understood a word theyve said; not even when listening to Roberto.
Big Brother should have taken the food off him the minute he started complaining about it. Talk about being ungrateful!
Critique 14-06-2005, 04:24 PM I officially hate Derek now! He just thinks he is soooo upper class and intelligent and he isn't. He is constantly misquoting things because he isn't as clever as he would have the other housemates think he is. A posh voice doesn't make an educated man. All that whining over the meal made me want to throw something at the TV.
I'm glad he was shown up for being a back-stabber and can't wait to see (and hear) the back of him.
Get him out!
Pandora 14-06-2005, 04:29 PM Big Brother should have taken the food off him the minute he started complaining about it. Talk about being ungrateful!
I wish someone had picked him up on that disgraceful behaviour last night. It needed someone to say, "Derek, you preach constantly about how people should have respect for one another, but unfortunately you dont practice it. Its disrespectful, bad manners and downright ungrateful to criticise food that has been prepared in good faith and put on the table for you to eat. Now eat it before I stove your head in with a saucepan...."
isleofweather 14-06-2005, 04:38 PM .. and er what was his diary room quote "hundreds of thousands of people sleep in cardboard boxes in London's streets" ---- er Derek more like hundreds
what a chump

I think he said hundreds or thousands of people...
Then again I may be wrong!
isleofweather 15-06-2005, 08:18 AM I really hope that old big head goes on Friday - it will be awful to watch him on BBLB, but worth it.
Last night going on about his driver was the limit. I think that mixing with politicians and royalty has warped him into thinking he is special.
I can only imagine the sneers and bile that he pours forth about people in private. Also the fact that he tolerates the nickname "Golly" tells its own tale.
The "man" is a disgrace who has none of the very grace he bestows upon himself :ranting:
Well I still like him.
I don't know wether its because the others are becoming so blatantly vile that it is becoming squirm viewing, but Derek to me is OK. As is Roberto.
When I see this breed of new people coming through with their arrogance and I am owed the world attitude it makes me feel sick.
My poor children are suffering....you WILL learn natural respect...you WILL learn to earn you own way and not just scrounge.
YOU WILL BE A NICE PERSON AND MOST IMPORTANTLY BE A NICE PERSON TO OTHERS AND LEARN TO FORGIVE WHEN OTHERS ARE NOT SO NICE TO YOU
Life will move on.
Big Brother should make this a mantra to this horrible selfish bunch (Derek and Roberto excluded).
Ceridwen 16-06-2005, 07:48 PM I LOVE Derek. He is truly fantastic and superbly entertaining.
Do you really want another 11 weeks of "Off The Hook Mate!"
Get rid of him at your peril.

maxine 23-06-2005, 08:19 AM So is Derek going? Rather spoils eviction night doesn't it? Cos they'll probably cancel it!
Bella 23-06-2005, 08:38 AM His pointless pontificating is seriously starting to remind me of Chis Eubank!
And now we know that Chris Eubank is a friend of Derek's, mabe this explains it!
Is Derek going before Friday? I wonder if he would have asked to leave if he wasn't up for nomination though............ :bored:
Derek was superb tonight - two different aspects of fatherhood coming out
Firstly giving Science advice - and trying to turn him into a gentleman:ohmy:
Then comforting the "junior princess"!!

His relationship with Science is so sweet isn't it..Roberto said about this that he and Derek cared for him...and they do.
I like Derek. Even though he does look like something out of Close Encounters...DOO DOOO Doo DOO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Bella 01-07-2005, 06:10 AM I just love Derek, he is sweet and I just love this love/hate relationship with Science! He is just wonderful, I am so glad he decided to stay even though he annoyed by saying he was going but didn't. I forgive him. :)
maxine 01-07-2005, 06:58 AM I think Derek's little speech to Science last night showed Science in a good light too. He can listen to and accept advice and criticism.
Dolores 01-07-2005, 07:23 AM I think Derek is a pontificating knob at times!
who does he think he is Dr Higgins with Science as Eliza Doolittle??!?!
Bonsai 01-07-2005, 08:40 AM I thought Derek was really patronising yesterday with Science. Dont get me wrong - Science irritates the hell out of me, but his little speach was patronising to the extreme. I admire Science for keeping his gob shut (for once) and listening though as i would of laughed in his face.
BUT i did like Dereks cuddle / chat with Vanessa. I thought that was kinda sweet.
Bella 01-07-2005, 08:59 AM Maybe he was a little Bonny but you know what I loved about that little sequence with Science & Derek was that Science actually listened! He didn't gob off or go off in a strop and I honetly think that Derek did not mean to be patronising, I do genuinely think he cares about Science and wants to put on him on the right track!
Also loved the tittle tattle about who was to be the narrator, Derek & Science are a fab comedy duo!
And you know what really cracked me up last night was when Derek said about Maxwell getting annoyed that BB were splitting up a couple and Science just roared with laughter. Was I the only one who found this hilarous? I laughed last night and I laughed again this morning when it was on. :bag:
bridge 01-07-2005, 09:08 AM have you noticed that it seems that Science is only cocky when there are other people around? on a one to one he is sensible and mature- hence his talk with Derek.
And you have to hand it to Science he did'nt feel (whats her name?) Orville's knockers when everybody else was having a feel did he.
sayangmouse 01-07-2005, 06:03 PM But he still had the funniest line even then...
"enough of the titty talk, its making my sort a aggitated if you know what I mean"
Out of all of them Derek has shone through...the chat with Science wasn't patronising at all...it was lovely and very eloquently put, but best of all it worked. Science really listened to him.
Bella 01-07-2005, 06:32 PM You know Derek is going to be in great demand by the Tory Party when he gets out on the BB house, he is going to be massive for their campaign! He has probably done more for the Tory Party in a matter of weeks than the whole of the party put together have done in the last 20 years! Derek could well be a future Prime Minister!!!! :bag:

HURAHH! Prime Minister Derek ...ooh its simply marvelous!
Groucho 07-07-2005, 11:10 AM I reckon Derek has a career in advertising ahead of him.
The other night he had his head down and his eyes shut, but he seemed to know the camera was looking at him as he opened his eyes very slowly and looked straight at the camera.
He looked just like an evil Malteaser, to praphrase Anthonys comment of a few weeks ago.
Pandora 07-07-2005, 02:52 PM Derek is really growing on me !! Mainly because I dont know how on earth he is managing to cope with living with such a bunch of slobby, vacuous, loud peasants !
Oooh hark at me, Im starting to sound like him....
I didnt see his "chat" with Science, but if he actually got Science to listen while someone else talks, then that would have been a first. Im praying that during the chat he asked Science not to say, "Yer get meh??" at the end of every sentence, because if he does it ONCE more, Ill chew off my arm and chuck it at the telly.
survivorfan 10-07-2005, 06:25 PM I don't think he's unintelligent - he seems to make a lot of sense to me. I am still loving the guy, I think he's great.
Unfortunately he has an affected and condescending tone that puts me completely off him. Plus he is or was a Master of Foxhounds so that 's the final nail in the coffin for him in the SF household.

He would make a great bad guy in a bond movie, just needs the eye monocle and an evil plot to destroy the world. Very credible.
Critique 10-07-2005, 09:39 PM I really can't stand Derek - he is so totally fake. His upper class accent is so false. He is not an educated man he is just a wannabe.
How he must have cringed when his personal video wasn't done by Camilla or at least someone with a title, but just 3 old biddies who looked like something out of Coronation Street. He looked acutely embarrassed - bet he wished they hadn't been dragged on to do it. Hasn't he got any family or close friends?
I saw somebody say that he was "articulate". Excuse me while I laugh. He is about as articulate as Eugene - except that Eugene stutters and stammers and Derek just takes a week to get each word out while he searches his limited vocabulary for the right one (and fails quite a lot of the time).
The trouble with Derek is that, unlike the Maxwell, Craig, Anthonys who just spout off using any old word or swearword or "you know", "like" etc. Derek, through obviously mixing with the upper classes, knows that there is a more appropriate word but his limited brain can't find it quick enough to have a lucid conversation at a normal pace.
I can't listen to him and Eugene trying to communicate because it's painful to the ears.
He's also snidey, creepy and totally up himself. His favourite pastime in the house is "stirring it" whilst trying to convince everyone that this is totally beneath him.
I don't care whether he stays or goes, though, because there isn't anyone that I like enough to want them to win. End of. ;)

I don't know anything about him or his background but as I only went to the local Secondary School and left school at 15 and even I can pick out his bad grammar, mispronunciation, and misquoted poetry, it seems obvious that he didn't have that brilliant an education and has just "aspired" to the upper classes by rubbing shoulders with them.
If I'm wrong about him and he has had a decent education, then he is obviously thick because it hasn't done him much good. Anyone can do a posh accent - it doesn't make them posh or intelligent.

I dont particularly like the man, but the phrase Ive quoted of yours is wrong. The man is on £110,000 a year in wages. Id have thought that this alone, would mean that something somewhere has done him a great deal of good, whether it be his education or savvyness.
And I know a LOT of extremely well educated people who mispronounce and cannot spell or count for toffee....... it doesnt mean they are pretending to have gone to a good school.
Saying all that, Ive no doubt the snidey git will be gone in the next week or so, now the "Dark Destroyer" has been exposed....

Probably just knew the right people or was in the right place at the right time. Ok, he's probably good at his job but I bet he had to do a lot brown nosing to get there. (Still it wouldn't show would it ;) ) That's probably why he hasn't got any friends to speak up for him

I haven't watched much of BB, but I did watch last night's episode, and I may have got this completely wrong, but I though Derek's reaction to Kamal's video message, i.e. it made him cry, was quite revealing. Like I said I haven't seen much of it, but I assume Derek isn't normally the weepy kind is he? Why did Derek cry during Kamal's message, and why did he go to Kamal in the bedroom to comfort him when he was upset and reassure him about how wonderful his family were?
My heart went out to Derek as he shed a tear. If I'd have been there, it would have been him I would have cuddled, not the over-emotional Kamal who after all got exactly the message he wanted to hear.
sayangmouse 11-07-2005, 06:47 PM I think he's just going totally stir crazy. His comment the other day "Oh where are you Roberto....." was telling as he was the only one who had an attention span greater than a goldfish (except Eugene, who appears to be spending more and more time with Derek now, a natural evolution I would say). He's just incredibly lonely in there at the moment, its a prison for him.

Kemal had been worried because he comes from a strict Turkish Muslim family who didnt know he was gay (believe it or not). He has been fretting that he came out in the House before telling his parents the truth.
His video from his family told him what he wanted to hear. Reading between the lines, they were saying that they were proud of him and no matter what he had said or done, they loved him and he shouldnt be worried.
Derek promptly got all emotional (and I believe it was genuine) while Kemal went to the bedroom to sob in private (again, a genuine thing to do, rather than attention seeking). It was really rather a touching moment.
maxine 12-07-2005, 12:06 PM I keep meaning to say - Derek's got a pretty fit body.
I'm finding him increasingly annoying. His superior attitude; the way he speaks to people sometimes is really rude; and his diary room rambles when he seems to be carefully choosing every word he uses, and when he hits on the right word he nods.

school teachers? I believe he is adopted? He hasnt really talked much about his upbringing though has he? Unless, of course, its been edited out.
His little chat with Kemal about Craig & Anthony was very revealing tonight. When Kemal isnt being silly and affected, and when Derek decides to drop the pompous ass act, they make for very good television. They psychologically disected Craig and Anthony beautifully.

Derek to play a villain in the next James Bond movie 33 - 1
Does this make me a mole..........?
I was up very late last night and I saw a lot of the live feed.
Orlaith and Makosi were in the bitching hut and they were having a masssive bitch about Derek. Orlaith was full of loathing towards him.
It was the topic that is recuring more and more; that Derek doesn't have any money and is making up the stories about his life.
Now we all know that it's utter tosh, derek does have a luxury lifestyle friends in high places and a housekeeper, but I for one have never really heard Derek even talk that much about his life outside the house and why do they all think he is lying?
I've heard mentioned that the cothes he wears are not expensive or exclusive enough. so what!
Orlaith said about Derek's potal address that she knows of people who rent very small one bedroomed flats in that area just to have the postcode and she reckons Derek is one of them :w00t:
Can anyone shed light on how and why this all emerged?

I don't know what the song is called but the video is shot on a bus and has to annoying rapper style girls singing about workng a nine to five and Derek is there looking down his nose at them.
It's shown on B4 music

You know what gets me more than anything regarding Makosi (who is ALWAYS the one to start the bitching). The fact that she PRESUMES to know everything about everyone.
Her presumptiousness is breathtaking.
Has she developed psychic powers while in the house? Well she must have because she believes Derek isnt really rich, he is lying (he isnt). She believes Kemal was faking his illness (he wasnt), she thinks that Kemal has been lying about his parents not knowing he was gay (he wasnt) and if she questions anyone, she presumes she knows exactly what they are REALLY thinking and presumes the exact opposite and then tells everyone.
Derek IS rich, has been on more than one holiday with Camilla Parker-Bowles, does have expensive clothes (but has obviously chosen not to bring them all in with him - after all, whats the point), he DOES earn as much as he says he does.....
What is really rich is that Makosi has told more lies than she reckons Derek has!
sayangmouse 16-07-2005, 05:48 PM Hmmm, found this on Derek from "Wikipedia", and I think it is safe to assume the Encyclopedia doesn't print rubbish (or potential libel):
For the 1997 General Election, Laud, who is openly homosexual, was selected as Conservative candidate for the seat of Tottenham, but stepped down shortly before the election citing "business reasons". There was press speculation that this referred to Laud's drink-driving conviction in the US [2].
In 2001 he provided an alibi for his friends Neil and Christine Hamilton in their sexual assault case.

This just shows that they have no idea of how the "rich" really live, or at least the upper classes. It´s almost considered compulsory for the posh to wear shabby clothes so you´re not mistaken for a nouveau - quelle horreur! - therefore Derek having scruffy clothes is a way of signalling thta he is so wealthy that he doesn´t need to flaunt it by wearing brands. It´s like Beckingham vs Buckingham palace!

OMG I've got so much to say tonight that my tongue is getting twisted just thinking about it :w00t:
But I'll start with Derek.
Sly old Dog
He really is stiring the big pot.
I'm appauled once again by his racist remarks.
What the hell does it matter the colour of Science's skin, his remarks enrage me.
Does he think that because he is a posh fox hunting git that he has superiority to dish out remarks like that :boxing:
he has been quietly feeding and coaxing Kamal for weeks now, planting the seeds and now he has got kamal so tangled in the web and Derek can just sit back and rub his hands with glee at the chaos he has created.
Did he or did he not in a conversation on the orange duvet tell several housemates that Anthony is a closet gay?
So why deny it all yesterday and throw the spotlight onto Science and makosi.
In the words of that other arrogant prat from last year (ahmed)
I hate him

What I didn't understand was the way he said that Science was the first black person he'd ever admitted to not liking. How strange, there are a shed load of white people I don't like and would never judge by someone's colour whether or not I liked them. How can you like someone just because they are black?
Derek really is a very very silly old duffer. The way he swims about in the pool dishing out his perceived wisdom to the equally dull sensed Kemal, reminds me of something at the bottom of the pond!
Really Derek GROW UP!
maxine 19-07-2005, 07:11 AM Really Derek GROW UP!
God yes, he is weirdly immature.
I also can't stand him any more. I couldn't believe his comment either, about Science being the first black person he doesn't like. What a truly odd thing to say.
He's a very nasty little man. The way he manipulated Kemal into having it out with Orlaith was so devious. I actually felt sorry for Orlaith.

I was actually beginning to warm to Derek. I thought he was a nice man, who liked to bitch now and then (dont we all) but he was harmless and kept himself to himself.
But now he is the king of ****e stirring. He latches onto a few key people and pushes every button he can think of pushing. I couldnt believe it when he called Kemal over and said "i think you should say something to Orlaith tonight". We all know that Derek doesnt like her, but he is getting someone else to do his dirty work for him.

As for setting Kemal onto Orlaith, IsleofWeather - more fool any of them for falling for Derek's deviousness !
They are all so stupid, and yet think themselves so clever. You can just wind em up and set them off. Given the right encouragement they just hang themselves while a smirking Derek looks on.
Frankly I think its the only entertainment he gets in there.
It must be like being in prison with a bunch of morons.
The look on his face was priceless when Anfernee came out of the diary room after his "date" and said, " I had them errrrr things that make yer horny like.... errrrrrmmm ..." Derek said, "Oysters you mean?" Anfernee said, "Yep thats them an they were served in this kind of shell like thing......"
Derek clamped his lips together and flared his nostrils. It said it all really. Anthony's increasing stupidity is embarrassing....
Gosh Derek's popular isn't it he judging by the last time this thread was used!
NOT
Plonker, prize git.
Thought I'd get in here first with my :boxing: left and right.
Now then.
Derek asks Orlaith does she see herself being there in the final.
She answers the question and then turns the question back on him (classic Derek move that) AND he mutters that she is a silly cow and fancy asking him such a silly question!!!! :w00t:
Oh and BTW he's 41 you know
Oh please Orlaith stay on friday if only to wipe the smug look of Derek's face :naughty:
Dolores 28-07-2005, 06:50 AM Yes I noticed that too Bob ... well it was so obvious I'm surprised Derek didn't notice!!! But then I forget his **** don't smell.
What a horrible man he is, a bully, a gossip and a complete bitch, so he's 41 is he ... well why doesn't he act it. He stopped being amusing a long time ago ... about the time that Roberto left actually and now comes across as a bitter twisted old queen.
I noticed this too Bob - infact it is in my notes that I have just made :bag: . He is really shooting himself in the foot with his venomous spoutings about Orlaith isn't he. It really isn't necessary with him being 41 and all.
I do like his wig in the task though - he reminds me of Micheal Caine in The Forth Protocol.

Critique 28-07-2005, 10:05 AM Grrrr! Don't get me started on Derek again.
I've even had to turn the live coverage off when he tries to have a "conversation" with Eugene. He doesn't converse, he just lectures and I hate the way his beady eyes dart around between each carefully selected word while he searches his limited vocabulary for the next.
He's not as "posh" as he likes to make out. Did anyone see the actress who plays Waynetta Slob (I think it's Kathy Burke). She said exactly what I said on here a couple of weeks back - that he keeps misquoting (Shakespeare and other poems).
I can't remember what it was now (I'll have to keep notes) but Eugene asked him about something and what he told him was completely wrong! I was saying "No it isn't you plonker" at the TV :bag: but he said it with such an air of authority that I'm sure Eugene believed him. Still that's the sort of World he lives in isn't it - Politics - if you don't know the answer just say anything as long as you say it with conviction!

You know Max, I was yelling this at my screen too. Why the hell didnt Orlaith say "not sure why you are getting so snippy Derek, Im only asking you the same question..."
This is the problem with Orlaith, she doesnt stick up for herself and this makes Derek and his b!tches in waiting - Kemal and Makosi think she is weak and therefore up for bullying.
Im not sure what on earth Orlaith has done to warrant such vitriol from Derek. He really seems to despise the poor girl.

They used to add up your totals each day so we all used to fight over tapes from one poor bloke with a stammer. It used to take him 5 minutes to say "Good morning Typist" poor devil. I stand shoulder to shoulder with you Islandman, I still like Derek.
Yes he's a bitch and may be misquoting things left right & centre but it makes me roar with laughter. At the end of the day (aaarrrggghhh!) he is playing the game. As someone has said, he is getting people to do his dirty work for him - could that not be described as tactics? Orlaith is a big girl now, if someone has a go at her, she either takes it or has a go back - where Anthony being gay is concerned, so Derek back tracked so fast he nearly fell over - it's no worse than anything anyone else has done.
They are all as bad as each other in my eyes but stuck together, hugely entertaining. I don't think Derek will win though.
I still like Derek, he has been a steady Eddy all the way thru. His diary room entrys are a hoot, I love his reaction when ousted to the secret room - 'Marvelous', I love his prose and way of speach.
Yes he is a bitch, but he hasn't shagged anyone, got pregnant, fawned over an unrequited love, been as dull as ditch water, got his norks and porker out for all to see (he really does have a nice bod and it would have been welcomed), he has been entertaining and kept his cool.
Funnily only really with Orlaith did it start to slip and her feelings were mutual - I wonder what really went on there.

The Orlaith v Derek thing has me so puzzled. To say, "I cant sleep because he scares me so much" is a very very odd thing to say, and makes me wonder what we have missed?
Anyway - going on what we have seen - Im a bit annoyed that Derek is now being pushed out of the equation somewhat by the likes of Makosi, telling the others that she is afraid of him and that he is horrible. Not quite sure no one has pointed out that she has felt safe enough in his company to mix and b!tch with him for the last four weeks.....
Derek is a real b!tch admittedly, but he IS prepared to say it to people's faces and makes it clear that he doesnt like you. Unlike Makosi and Kemal who hug you wth one hand and back stab you with the other.
Makosi is now doing her very best to ensure that, should there be nominations, Derek is the one person on everyones mind.... In the last 24 hrs he has been ostracised.
I wouldnt mind if he won actually.
I dont want Anthony to win because he is a conceited arsehead who thinks he has it sewn up, Craig is a bunny boiler, Makosi is a psychologically disturbed two faced liar and Eugene just wouldnt be able to cope with winning....
maxine 31-07-2005, 08:30 AM I just think Derek is a bully, plain and simple. He bullied Science, he bullied Sam and he bullied Orlaith. That is Derek's one and only saving grace. In all other ways he is a dreadful and absolutely, gharrstly little man. He has lost, if indeed, he ever had it, his power of stringing two words together - and I mean two words. In the diary room the pauses between each and every word are becoming longer and longer!!
He is using the wrong words in the wrong places - he is becoming a very unfunny Mrs Malaprop. He seems to have lost his shock tactics as well and is now just a maleavolent, brooding and boring presence.

Critique 31-07-2005, 02:46 PM If what I have read is true (and I don't believe all I read) Derek was educated in a Secondary Modern School. He's therefore not Posh but has acquired his carefully honed accent by copying the posh people that he has found himself associated with. I believe that's why he speaks so slowly and deliberately. He composes every word before he utters it because he's afraid of giving himself away.
I think he is acting, playing a part. His comment to Orlaith was designed to undermine her from the start. He must have been petrified that she would be highly intelligent and thus able to expose his many slip-ups, i.e. misquoting Shakespeare and poetry and his poor spelling etc. showing him up for the pretentious fool that he is. What a shame that Orlaith turned out to be a scared rabbit and quite inarticulate.
Once he had assured himself that she wasn't going to pose any intellectual threat to him he relaxed back into his role play of superiority over the (in his words) "mediocrity of the people in here". He's happy that none of the housemates were intelligent enough to trip him up and one look at Kinga will reassure him that he can continue without detection.
I agree that his insulting of other HMs is an exercise in making himself feel better, i.e. that he has to keep pointing out the vast gap between those people and himself but I believe that this is because of his insecurity in the role he is playing, this need to keep emphasising how different he is from all of them.
As to his association with the rich and famous, perhaps they are well aware of his humble beginnings. Perhaps he entertains them with a bit of "cockney" at their dinner parties.
The only thing that puzzles me is how he manages to write speeches!! Probably just a skill that can be learned like most others.
Pandora 31-07-2005, 03:46 PM This is the problem with Derek. How many people do you not like and feel so strong that you tell them - the answer for me and I guess most folks is none. I don't dislike anyone enought to call them on it. People may irritate but I and other normal people know that I am just as bad and get on with life. To call his fellow HM "mediocre" is an exercise in making himself feel better. His ire to others is a thin veil on his own self-loathing.
people who call spades spades are just rude people, period Look, the likes of Makosi, Kemal and Derek are ALL rude, ignorant people. The difference is, Derek, is vile to peoples faces. Im not saying its a good thing, Im saying that at least he has the balls to do it, rather than be snide, back stab and assassinate characters left right and centre in The Loft as Makosi as Queen Bee has often done.
Derek wont win. And neither does he deserve to. Yes he DOES look down his nose and call people mediocre, but then Makosi also has delusions of grandeur and speaks in the diary room of being superior to some of the other housemates. So he isnt on his own in that department.
Yes, Derek's behaviour is bullying, just as Makosi's is horribly manipulating, but had Orlaith stood up to him, gone toe to toe and had a good old rant at him about his unacceptable behaviour, I doubt whether Derek wouldve made her life such a misery.
secrets 31-07-2005, 08:53 PM The more i see revealed of Derek's 'workings' - the more i dislike him.
He thinks he can run riot over these 'thick' people and come out looking intelligent - wrong Derek you are being observed by far more clever people than you.

Yes Derek - I bet Jonathon Ross watches BB - and will see you for the fool you are - John Wayne and Silver?? Tut tut - you silly silly foolish gharrstley little man!!

And pray tell, what is this famous John Wayne film entitled, "Hi Ho" ????
I think its safe to say that I can bet my entire years salary on the fact that not only did John Wayne NOT star in a film named Hi Ho, but actually there has never BEEN a film named Hi bloody Ho !!!!!!
The horse named Silver actually belonged to the Lone Ranger (not played by John Wayne), who used to shout, "Hi Ho Silver.... awaaayyyyyyyy" and then ride off into the sunset.
Yet again, Derek bull****s for England, and yet again, because he is surrounded by housemates with the brains of a gnat, he gets away with it. Eugene wasnt present at the time of this huge gaffe - as Im sure he would have put Derek right......
Andrea 31-07-2005, 09:55 PM Oh I was laughing when Derek the know-it-all quizmaster was asking about John Wayne's horse and saying about the film "Hi Ho!"
When he was in the diary room with the toilet rolls and BB gave him the clue "hi ho" I thought Derek might start singing that song "High Ho Silver lining"
Critique 31-07-2005, 09:59 PM He just took all the credit for getting the name of the horse. Notice he didn't tell the other HMs that BB had practically given him the name. How come he got such a huge hint? Nobody else did. Grrrrr!
secrets 31-07-2005, 10:02 PM I guess with so much bull**** flying around Derek was the man for the job lol.

How right you are
sayangmouse 01-08-2005, 06:54 AM He even knew the surname of the horse! Silver Lining!
But come on, lets put Derek's performance in some kind of perspective here:
Makosi:
1) My dads horse Flycatcher? But he's dead now
2) Andrex? (looking at the toilet roll)
3) DERRRREK........
Anthony
1) Big Brother
2) A horse me old ganddad used to back, I think it was called Brutus the Bear
3) Sandy, Dogtagnon's horse, that cartoon with all the dogs
(BB: Anthony, Sandy from Dogtagnon the cartoon with all the dogs.....Anthony has that "did I get it right maybe?" look on his face...... Poor. Anthony. Poor. Get Out!)
Classic.

I think the true Derek is at last shining through - he really is just about as thick as Anthony! I just wished that there was a housemate with a brain cell to have told Derek that Silver was in fact Tonto's horse and not John Wayne, who of course starred in several films and had several horses!!
What an arrogant, horrible, little man!
And yes sayangmouse Makosi & Anthony............well, what can I say? But yet again Makosi had to get in there to steal the show, even when Craig was pleading with her to go in. Selfish mare!
sayangmouse 01-08-2005, 07:50 AM Just for the record, the Lone Ranger's horse was called Silver Chief originally, then shortened to Silver. Tonto's horse was originally White Fellah, but later called Scout. And Tonto means "dumbo" in Spanish.
But then we have google, and Derek doesn't right now! lol

Whoops, I meant the Lone Ranger not Tonto! Just call me Derek!

Makes you wonder where "these people" have been living doesn't it? (Hahah I sound like Derek - ewwww perish he thought).
"Poor, Anthony, Poor - Get Out!" the best moment so far :) Big Brother has either developed a sense of humour or is getting as exasperated as the rest of us.

BB has had the best humour this series.

Okay, Makosi was floundering, but she IS from Zimbabwe and hadnt got a damn clue what was going on and obviously knew nothing of westerns or horses (god Im defending her, thats a first).
But Anthony !!!!!!!!!!!!! God almighty. The stupidity of the boy is breathtaking isnt it? I was just so embarrassed for him. I used to wonder what went on his head while he was staring into the distance, sitting on that sofa. Ive now got my answer - absolutely **** all !!!!!!
Thank god, the voice of Big Brother (whoever he is, he is superb), managed to save the moment and give us all a big belly laff with the put down.
But my god, if Anthony represents the youth of today - I truly despair... he is truly a Himbo....... (male equivalent of a bimbo, lol)....

This BB Voice I am sure was the same Voice who Anthony had a date with - a rapport definitely has built up - this was a stupendously funny moment!!
I roared when BB said that to Antony......
back to Derek, who I want to call Dirk (remember Norris calling Derek Dirk in corrie?!?!)......
possible SPOLIER...............
on BBLB earlier, it showed a clip of Derek, Kinga and Eugene in the seating area and Derek starts looking up and laughing, saying that a monkey is pulling faces at him, the camera then showed where he was on about and there was nothing there at which the camera went back to Kinga and Eugene who both looked totally bewlidered.....really made me chuckle
Groucho 04-08-2005, 09:25 PM "Big brother, can you speak to my house keeper.........arrange for Clive to get me out......get me out expeditiously....I'm special"
Why, after getting things back onside during the middle of the project has Derek become such a pretentious c**t?
"My hands were black when I came in, but they're white now through have my hands in so much bleach!"
Methinks Derek has been a bit of a coconut from the start! :glare:
Dolores 04-08-2005, 09:57 PM I just thought that it was a bit sad that the only people he can call on to be at his eviction are his housekeeper and Clive who I assume is his chaffeur cum handyman.
The only three they could muster up for his videoed message earlier were three old white biddies none of whom were related to him.
I know he was adopted, but surely someone out there loves him, (and I'm not talking about Chris Eubank or Christine Hamilton!)
Actually I have now made up my mind I want Derek to win out of the bozos that are left in there.
Bella 05-08-2005, 08:48 AM What on earth was Derek on last night with that monkey business? Has he completely lost his marbles or was he just stitching Eugene & Kinga up? Eugene's face was a picture.
And the shooting incident...........mmmm, makes me wonder if Derek hasn't been telling a few porkies. He keeps going on about shooting this and shooting that but is unable to shoot a few cans off the wall! :glare:

He said on the live feed (not shown on the highlights) that he is very adept with a shot gun, which is a lot different from a pistol. Apparently, with a little tuition from Eugene, he was brilliant.
As for seeing the monkey.... did you see Eugenes face????? Bless. Either Dirk is going mental or the medication he has to take was the wrong dose !! :w00t:
(for those not in the know, Derek suffers from a neurological condition which gives him sudden muscle spasms, so he takes medication frequently to stop the tremors. This is why he is able to wear a watch - the only person ever in the house to be allowed to do so - so he can set the alarm on it, to remind him to go to the diary room to be given his meds).
Incidentally, I too am wishing that Derek would win, mainly because it would thoroughly gob smack Makosi and Craig and also because, although Derek has had his vile moments, he CAN be nice sometimes and Ive not seen Makosi or Craig ever be pleasant to anyone and mean it....
