Has everyone pre-ordered their copy of Harry Potter? I am going to read through The Goblet of Fire again before I get the new one. If you order before 11th July at Tescos you can buy it for £8.96 plus delivery which I think is about £2.00.

Ooh, can't wait for the next instalment!

Yeh it's not long now is it before it comes out.

I haven't ordered any copy yet, but I know a local shop is selling it for a tenner so may pop in there and get one.

I know I'm pretty much a lone voice ... but I do not understand the allure of the Harry Potter books for adults.

I don't either, Dol. I read the first three to pacify friends who were raving about them, but after the first one they all seemed a bit familiar. I realise that's because of the plot structure being linked to the academic year, but even so I couldn't get very excited about any of it.

Nope, it should keep going until he finishes school.

I love Harry Potter. As an adult I love it and I love the fact that its got so many children reading.

Our local Waterstones is selling it for 8.99 with a free book.

I never read the books, though i have some first edition hardback editions in the attic which are worth a bit.

I watch and enjoy the films with the children, though the last one was a bit 'dark' and i didn't enjoy it as much.

Right am all set for saturday. Am going to mums on friday and she has ordered my copy from waterstones along with the free book. Best bit is shes said shes buying it as a treat for me looking after her dog. Have decided that I will not go to a midnight opening like last time as am now 26 and can cope without harry for a couple of hours (that and I did'nt check with mum that her waterstones is opening at midnight..... perhaps dad might run me in.........). Can you imagine a book being so popular that they open bookshops especially for it?

So they fly out on saturday evening leaving a quiet house for me to sit and read, as long as I let the dog out occasionaly. Am excited.

Well since the book's release is timed to go on sale at the same time world-wide we have to wait until 11.01 am Saturday morning before we can get our hands on it!

Mr V is on call Saturday so the rest of us will get the whole day to spend reading (yes, I had to order 3 copies!)

Oh, that's interesting.
I wondered whether you would be able to buy it before us or not.
There are shops round here having a midnight Harry Potter party, opening about 11pm and they get the book at midnight.

I haven't ordered one, but hoping the shop will have some stock in on Saturday.

Well we've got them! I have started mine but I'm trying to read it slowly and make it last, it's two years until the next one after all, but Sam read his in 5 hours. He is now under threat of great pain if he lets anything slip that might ruin it for the rest of us!

Oh V how hilarious, have you finished yours yet??

I was about to post [till I read yours] I wonder who will get theres first? But you answered my question.

Isn't it strange that it is released at midnight in the country JK Rowling comes from, and that is the set benchmark for worldwide sales - so you guys in NZ have a far more respectable hour to go and buy your copy!!

Tell me people who gets theirs first in the UK??

And did you have to queue.

And just to let you know I haven't read one of them yet, and I have only seen the first film, and a little bit of the second film. I am sure I would enjoy reading them if I could get round to doing it.

Mine came this morning, but as I never heard the post person ringing the bell (slept in-too much to drink last night) I had to go collect it.
I haven't started it yet though! And I'm not going to for a few weeks as I decided to read book 5 again and I'm on page 154 so a long way to go. I wanted to save it to read on my hols in four weeks. I pre ordered it as it's cheaper now and also I wanted the adult cover and not many shops stock that.
I don't know anyone who is into Harry Potter so I'll not hear any spoilers unless i go looking for them which I won't!

Couldn't quite make out all this business about synchronised release world wide, and the hoo-hah when a couple of shops accidentally put it on its shelves a day early. I's only a book for goodness' sake!

I read the first one and started the second.

I didn't think it was anything special, certainly would rush to buy one.

May watch the films sometime.

I bought mine yesterday from a local shop. They did open at midnight on Friday for a party and all the people who reserved it went to pick theirs up, but when I went down town on Saturday, there were loads of copies and at £8.99 as well.

And I've read it already:rolleyes: . Pretty damn good, but I do feel awful for reading it in 2 days when so much work went into writing it. I will just have to read it again.
But also like Bob I want to read the last one again to see if I can pick up any clues. I must get BIL to give it me back, he's been hogging it for ages.

I'm still stringing mine out, but I'm over half way through now so it won't last long! Ellie has now finished hers too. I'm really enjoying it :)

British newspapers predict that her fortune, already estimated at $1 billion, was set to grow by 20 to 25 million pounds as a result of the first-day sales alone.

Where do I get me some of that hype stuff?

I'm well and truly fed-up!!

I was away as the weekend because Saturday was my birthday - I got home Saturday night.
I had ordered the book as a little birthday present for myself because I knew it would arrive on my brithday.
The postman got to my house at 07:30 with the book and didn't leave it because 'it wouldn't fit in the post box'. I'm really miffed, usually when stuff won't fit in the letterbox the postman leaves it if the alleyway between my house and next door.
Even worse, it was taken to a post office 15 miles away, in the opposite direction to my work and I have no chance of being able to pick it up until tomorrow at the very earliest.
I wish I'd just gone to a store and bought it now! :(

Oh poor Stinky - Happy Birthday for Saturday though, you were as quiet as a mouse weren't you??

But look on the bright side - you have thrilling anticipation of possessing a book you want for another 24 hours, and the pleasure of holding your own copy when you finally get it - will be all the more sweet because of your wait.

I didnt know this thread was here until i saw it in Bella's post.

I cant stand the fascination either. I used to think grown men reading Harry Potter on the train to and from work were quite pathetic. I dont know why exactly, but i would of laughed at myself if i were reading Winnie the Pooh on the 8:14 to Liverpool Street and its the same thing !!! Its a childrens book.

I havent read any of them - and i dont think i ever will. I saw the first film, which was Ok, but it didnt make me want to see the others.

Have not seen any of the films nor read any of the books and don't have a desire to start now.

It just doesn't interest me, but I have no problems with those who enjoy it.

i finished reading it last sunday, i just couldnt put it down!! and i wont reveal the spoiler but i was most upset when i read it. when the book came out last saturday i was out on the town anyway coz it was my graduation ball. so what did i do, in my drunken state on my way to a club, dressed to the nines in a full ball gown and jewels, i noticed the book shop was opened and i remember harry potter was out!! i had a few crazy minutes running into the shop exclaiming harry potter harry potter twirling round and round in my dress and some kind soul pointed to the mountain of harry potter books. i grabbed a copy then it struck me i was dressed in the nicest possible outfit in a bookshop screaming for harry potter and how silly i mustve looked. while my bf was outside waiting in his kilt. but i almost bought a copy before i realised i would have to carry it around the club with me and it wouldve been too dark to read in there (but then again i couldve sneaked off to the toilet to read it). luckily my bf dragged me away before i bought one.

all these people who dont understand. trust me, i used to think like that too, whats all the hype and i didnt read them until between 4th and 5th books and since then ive been HOOOKED. i cant get enough, i even abandoned my graduation ball to hyperventilate about harry. oh dear.

LOL! Kookycat that exactly how I would have behaved.

I'm still reading it mainly becasue my son is also reading and he doesn't want me to get ahead of him and I don't want him reading it too fast as I believe that he'd miss a lot if read to quickly. We have a chapter by chapter analysis.

We stayed up last weekend to watch Harry Potter at the castle. When JK arrived and all those thousands of kids started yelling and screaming, I felt a big lump of emotion in my throat.
What a thrill to have been there.
I'm looking forward to finishing and getting onto the HP forums to discuss in depth
