Is anyone else here having problems with flying ants ???
I seem to have loads of them in the bathroom. I went home 2 nights ago, opened the bathroom door and it was like something from a horror movie. There were clumps of ants EVERYWHERE. I hoovered them all up .... and then last night we had some more.
The bathroom window is shut - so i can understand where the bugg*rs are coming from.
Anyone else suffering ?

Flying ants usually appear for a couple of days around the end of july, when they all appear from secret anty lairs and swarm off together to mate and shag and stuff. We had ours on Wednesday when I managed to splat about 58 of the beggars on the car windscreen - the impact splats at 100mph are quite awesome.
Flying ant day used to be a huge occasion a few years ago when I had a friend who bred venus fly traps and we spent hours in Bedford Square with tweezers and jam jars collecting hundreds of flying ants for the baby fly traps to eat.

Don't worry Bonnie, they'll be gone soon.

Cor its good to know they are going soon. You're right about them mating, they were in balls of about 10-15 of them, crawling all over one another
I was having my shower last night and being dive bombed by the little beggars.
Its strange though that they were in no other room, just the bathroom - which make me worry that there is a nest somewhere !!

Lmao  Sorry Bonnie, I know I shouldn't laugh but this made me chuckle :w00t:

Yes, we get them about the same time. Usually at peak barbecue season. :glare:

I haven't seen any yet this year Bonnie, but they don't tend to come into the house much even anyway - they just hang about in the garden.
Must be because you live in the country. You must be near a nest.
But Floopy's right. These stupid things only seen to have a 4 day lifespan.
