Whoooosh!
Sorry - the terracotta/terra firma thing went right over my head

Anyway, I arrived home yesterday morning. Last night all the family came round to see me and I ended up getting rattled... Ach well! So, let me tell all you people (well, the ones that can be arsed reading this) where I have spent the last six weeks. I've been in:

Sydney, Australia
Very nice place. Did all the touristy things. Weather was crap though! Went to the Blue Mountains but it peed down with rain the whole day (apparently it was record rainfall - trust it to be when I was there!)

Airlie Beach, Australia
Little back-packer town. Beautiful place. Went on a 3 day boat trip around the Whitsunday Islands at the great barrier reef. Went snorkelling. Coral and fish were amazing! Met some great people on the boat.

Cairns, Australia
Very hot and sunny! Went scuba diving which was excellent. Then done a 14,000ft sky-dive despite being scared of heights and flying. very impressed with myself actually. Was absolutely bricking it beforehand but would definately do it again. It was the best experience of my life.
Also hired a car and drove north to Port Douglas and some other places which was nice. (nearly killed everyone when i was driving by going through a give way sign...)

Auckland, New Zealand
Back to crappy weather. Not that much to do here but it was a very nice city. Hired a car again and drove down to a place called Rotorua where I went on a a bungy swoop thing - scarey stuff! Also went zorbing. For those who dinnae know what that is, basically yougo into a big inflatable ball and get rolled down a hill. I did a "hydrozorb" which meant there was also water in the big ball. It was fantastic. I loved it. Was just getting thrown about inside it as if I was in a washing machine. Then of course I visited Gisborne and stayed with the lovely Voice for a night.

Los Angeles, USA
Stayed in Melrose which was quite close to Hollywood. It was nice where we stayed but downtown in the city was horrible. Lots of gangs and stuff and very dirty. Went on a tour of film stars houses and stuff around the hollywood hills, beverly hills and bel air. Also saw rodeo drive etc. Also went to Universal Studios which was lots of fun.

Las Vegas, USA
Bloody brilliant place! Absolutely crazy. Tried my hand at blackjack in the casinos and won a few times but ended up spending it all again. Also won $66 on a slot machine. Woo hoo! Happy hour in our hotel was from 8am-4pm. Yes 8am-4pm so I was delighted with that. All the hotels are amazing. We stayed in Circus Circus (the cheapest of course) but it was lovely. And since we had previously been used to hostels, it was like living in luxury for a few days!
It was way too hot though. Couldn't walk outside for more than 5 mins. It was terrible. Although one day there was a thunder storm and the lightenening was like nowt Ive ever seen before.

San Diego, USA
Ah, lovely san Diego! The place where I almost bought that mansion over the internet when I was drunk one time! It was gorgweous. I loved it. Went to the world famous San Diego Zoo - fantastic place but got horrendously sunburnt. Also went down to the border and crossed over into Mexico to a place called Tijuana. It was so cheap so we had a great night out. It was crazy down there. Loved it.

New York, USA
The good old Big Apple. I really liked it here. The city is great and there's so much to see. Saw all the touristy stuff. Also went to Ground Zero. Very creepy and they've made it too much into a tourist attraction which is just cheap, IMO. Such a sad, sad place. I didn't like it.
The weather here was awful. Very hot and stuffy. the sort of heat you can't escape. Was constantly sweating. The subway was even worse!
Went to a baseball game. New York mets vs Chicago Cubs. Brilliant time!

And there you have it. It was a fantastic time had by all. But if I'm honest, 6 weeks was enough. I missed Miss PJ like crazy and I'm glad to be home. But I have certainly caught the travel bug and can't wait to go travelling somewhere again once I've paid off all the debt I accrued from this trip.

Aww PJ - its sounds wonderful!

And I gotta be honest - even although everyone I know says its a great place, you are the first person that has actually made me think I might like to go to Las Vegas!

I'm glad you're back though - until the next trip away!

Pj, it sounds like you had an absolutely fantastic time.
It seems to have gone really quickly, doesn't seem that long ago since we were saying bye to you.
But you've definately packed it all in.

Well done you on the sky dive. That is one thing I have always wanted to do. One day hopefully, I shall achieve it. (Maybe have to lose some weight first though otherwise I could go thud straight into the ground before the chute opens :w00t: )

And the "zorbing" sounds great fun.
Did you look like a hamster in one of those little plastic balls :w00t:

Also did you get any photo's of ground zero in NY.
I've posted some photo's of the twin towers in a thread in the photo place, from when i visited there. Be interesting to see what it looks like now.

Glad you had a great time though and it's lovely to see you back.

The only sex I had was with myself! But dinnae worry, I'll spare you the details....

And Andrea, YES! I felt like a hamster during the zorbing!! And yes, I got a picture of ground zero. Only the one but it's not very good - I just didn't feel right standing there taking photos of it.
There were some people who were actually getting other people to take photos of them standing there smiling in front of it, which I didn't understand. It's all a bit sick if you ask me.

Oh Peej, I don't know about you giving up the travel bug, just reading your tales has almost given me it! If only it wasn't for the kids and a husband, do you think they would notice if I disappeared for 6 weeks?!

Did you just go on your own Peej or was there an organised group?

It sounds as if you had an absolute smashing dive, the sky-dive, the zorbing and of course meeting Voice must have been the highlights of your adventure! Well done on the sky-dive! woo-hoo!

I know what you mean about Ground Zero, I have been to New York twice both before 9/11 but my friend had gone over in the November after 9/11 and was sickened at the souvenier stalls that were set up round out and people making money out of such a tragedy.

And yes, I think you better keep your sex-tales to yourself! :w00t:

Did you just go on your own Peej or was there an organised group?

No, I went with 9 other people in my class. You see, we were actually doing our elective projects abroad (something you have to do at the end of 4th year). You're meant to do it for a few weeks but most people do it for about a week max then just go travelling.
I did it with 2 other guys in the group I went away with and we spent one day on it...
Actually, I forgot to add this bit in when I told you all what I did.
Basically, our project is about forensic dentistry so when we were in Sydney we visited the Coroner's Court just to get info etc and the guy there ended up taking us down to the mortury and I saw all sorts of dead bodies, including decomposed one. not nice
(Actually, I think I did mention this before, didn't I?)

lol - there were no more german goings on unfortunately. I don't understand why everyone thought I was german? I don't even speak it!
And yes, I suppose the 6 weeks did fly by. I'm already starting to miss my back-packing days to be honest...
