LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Dana Reeve, the widow of Christopher Reeve who nursed the paralyzed "Superman" for nine years, stunned Americans on Tuesday by announcing she had been diagnosed with lung cancer.
Reeve, 44, who earned respect and affection for devoting herself to her husband after a riding accident left him paralyzed from the neck down, said she was undergoing treatment and was optimistic about her prognosis.
She has a 13 year old son. Poor kid.

I think it depends how early it's caught.
She's a non-smoker too.

I heard about this on GMTV this morning. It was mentioned that all the stress she's been under since her husbands accident etc could be a factor - is stress a factor in lung cancer?
That's such a shame.
It really puts things into perspective when you hear about someone like this who has real problems, doesn't it?
- is stress a factor in lung cancer?
stress is a trigger for many different cancers jaycee, as well as many other illnesses.

Hello fee for all,
Cancer is a horrendous disease to be diagnosed with, whether individuals are smokers or not.
As a singer it plagues me like mad the ongoing throatiness I have which seems to stay with me. for several months each year, for the last four years running.I have my throat checked every year without fail. so many wonderful singers of the past died with throat, lung and stomach related cancers. Which happen to be the 3 types with the lowest recovery chances.
I am a non smoker, but my father was a smoker and according to my GP the amount of lung damage I have, albeit a reduction in lung capacity of 20% is related to my dad's bad smoking habit. The good thing is I am assured is that it isn't cancer.
Still whatever goes wrong in my life it will never stop me from doing exactly what I want. I can sing like Jessye Norman /Marilyn Horne/ Montsarratt Caballe of this world and those who have heard me would never realise the personalised worries a singer might have about cancer.
