I think it might be a good idea if we have seperate threads to discuss each episode then hopefully we won't give the game away to those who haven't seen that episode yet.

So feel free to discuss Lockes story here!

Excellent idea.
I LOVED Locke's story.
I felt sorry for him in the beginning of the flash back when he was in that awful job with the awful manager. You could tell that he was capable of much more.
That was bad enough, but then when we found out the reason he was rejected for the adventure holiday....my heart really went out to him.
And then on the island......mysterious or what.
He is one of my favourite charachters and that has not wavered as the series progresses.(We are on episode 16 at the mo.)

Agreed, fab idea! I too am loving Locke, and wanted so much to punch that bully of manager! I was shocked when I saw that he was in a wheelchair, it came as such a surprise. I think Locke is the sort of person though that wouldn't thank for feeling sorry for him. He is a very proud man and I am happy he got his "legs back".

Who do you think the mysterious figure is though?

Ooh Great idea Ils

And that mysterious figure who was hanging around just before locke came back with the hog.
I thought it was Locke at first, but is the doctor having hallucinations

I've read in the papers about Locke, saying there is more to him than meets the eye.

I'm wondering if Locke's miraculous ability to walk again is going to be something mysterious or just something logical, like the jolt from the plane crash re-aligned something in his spine, for example.

Reminds me of when my brother-in-law, who had a long term back problem, fell out off his loft ladder, over the bannister rail and landed on the ground floor! Result, a couple of broken ribs but no more back trouble! So it could happen I suppose.

I hope they tell us how or why in a future episode.

I wondered that too Crit but I'm hoping all will become apparent in future episodes. My theory is that it has something to do with the island but I don't know.

I like Lockes character and like Bella I was shocked to see him in a wheelchair.

Just watched it ... we taped it cos it's on too late for my son and he really likes it ... I just hope it doesn't get gory as he has nightmares and then has to sleep with me, which I hate cos he snores and takes up all the room!

back o/t!

How me and my son sniggered when someone said "jackass" tonight ... and that is now our new name for jack!

I thought Locke was some kind of "sleeper" doing a civilian job but ready to join a crack action squad at any moment ... you know like the A-Team! I didnt like the scenes where his manager was bossing him and belittling him in a spiteful way. Are grown men really bullies to each other like that? I suppose they are.

Felt a bit freaked out when it turned out that Helen was his pyschiartrist and not his partner, he obviously has trouble with reality and fantasy ... could be an interesting character.

I have to say the shadowy figure under the trees gave me the shivers and I can't wait to find otu more about this.

As for the "thing" ... not keen on that story line to be honest. Are gonna use the "unseen monster" plot EVERY episode?

Also liking the character Sawyer who is constantly moaning and very pessimistic ...

I thought Helen was on some sort of sex line. She used the word "customer" didn't she? If a psychiatrist, wouldn't she say "client" or "patient" or something different ? Didn't she also say she never met customers or something like that? I just assumed a sex line (oh my dirty mind) and maybe I just heard it like that after I made my assumption.

But how did he get away from that big whatever-it-was and why didn't he mention it afterwards? I guess that needs to unravel over the episodes - I was thinking it was an elephant, but lets wait and see (still resisting looking at the future episodes on the net to find out!)

ils

I thought Helen was a 'phone sex' girl (can't think what you call them) as she said that he would have to pay for another hour.

Edit Sayangmouse are obviously thinking on the same lines!

oh my god, LONG time no post, but I started watching Lost, and none of friends seem to have caught the bug.. yet, wondered who on earth I was going to discuss it with, and though, HEY, you know what site I BET has good healthy wholesome discussion on the programme....

back o/t
Sooo, cracking episode, I felt that there had been this rather grand air of mystery surrounding Locke for the previous few episodes, and then the scenes with his bully boss and then on the phone, and then in the walkabout office, man it was just immense how much compassion it invoked. Especially as I kinda thought, hey this guy's a 007 Indiana Jones wildman hero with the knife-throwing, mysterious phonecall antics. Then 'bang' it's all a fantasy

THOUGHTS: did Locke actually kill the boar? Or did he really only drag home the carcass which the unknown beast killed?

As for the whole beast mystery, I mean wtf with the Polar bear and the French Transmission, real creepy and I guess these weird things are fueling random theories.

What do YOU think about Rose saying how her husband was probably wondering the 'same thing' (i.e. where all of them were)... does that mean her husband is alive? And if so, where are the characters really?

I mean he regains the ability to walk? (picked up by Critique) Could that happen really if they really are living in real life? What is the Island??

Of course... could just be an area of land, smaller than a continent, that is completely surrounded by water...

lovely

Re Locke and the boar, I hadn't thought of that theory, but I think that could well be the case.

I enjoyed last night's episode - I'd wondered what Locke's miracle was since he mentioned it in the first or second programme - however (and I know I'm being picky here) I felt that the fact the he was so strong on his legs - even being able to run almost immediately - didn't ring true. After all he did say that he had been in a wheelchair for four years - surely there would have been a lot of muscle wastage!

secrets
25-08-2005, 09:13 PM
Artistic licence Rob? I can forgive them that.

Whatever Locke saw - it frightened him for sure.
I'm thinking he knows something the others don't, something he was working on/involved with in the past, and he is weighing up the options before he reveals anything to the others?
Why the 'scarey thing' didn't harm him in is another interesting thing.

**Oh welcome back Tifa - are you going to tell us just how well your studies went - you clever cloggs you?:wink_kiss **

I think I'm older than everyone on here so I don't know if you young 'uns remember the old film Forbidden Planet, with Robbie the Robot (it's been repeated on TV several times). It's a space Sci-fi thingy and had an invisible monster. Everytime I hear the monster music and see the ground flattening it reminds me of that film. It's spookily similar.

It turned out that the "monster" was the evil in man's thoughts and I saw the story likened to Shakespeare's The Tempest but as I've never read it, I wasn't sure what they meant.

I hope this isn't going to turn out to be a copy of that

you could be onto something there Crit! I'm sure those more knowledgeable will correct me if I'm wrong but the tempest takes place on an island when everyone is shipwrecked there!

they say there's no such thing as a new story don't they!

Scooby
25-08-2005, 10:17 PM
But The Tempest doesn't really have a monster, apart from Caliban, who represents the colonised races of Shakespeare's time.

There is lots of magical stuff going on though. I suppose in a way it is a little bit like Lost. Incidentally, I just met an amazingly ace lady on the bus who was similarly obsessed with Lost, and we chatted for about three minutes - and by the end I could tell we could easily be BEST friends - but then I had to get off. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything really, but such is life.

cheerio!

Well I am another intrigued by the walking after the crash, both Rob and Dol hint and mention at what went through my mind - that Locke was a sleeper, and maybe his presence on the island [and everyone else's] is not a coincidence? Or is that a bit too far fetched.

Hi Tifa btw!:bye:

Oooh I thought the same thing about the theme in LOST ...turning out to be the evil in mens minds..the ID..blah blah blah.
But honestly..after months of watching it, I don't think it's going to turn out that way.
And the fact Locke does'nt have 'muscel wastage' or the like, well..that is just part of the mystery of the Island....
Keep watching.....dont' miss even ONE episode.
And pay attention to EVERY word uttered by everyone.
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooo!
(Spent 3 hours in the pub last nite chatting about LOST.Even the people at the next table joined in with interesting theories...and reminded me about 'stuff' I had forgotten.
It's unputdownable...in my humble o. :-)

I remember The Forbidden Planet, Critique, that's when there were footprints in the sand wasn't it and there was a scientist sort of person who owned Robbie the Robot.

Mmm, I think there is more to Locke than meets the eye - we didn't actually see him on the plane or see his crash sequence, like we did with the others did we..............or did we? I can't remember!

I reckon Locke is an ex CIA assassin who got post traumatic stress disorder after getting involved in a rather nasty bomb blast that killed his whole family. He was given therapy to reintroduce him to society, hence the wheelchair and the naff job, but his old assasin skills and memory start to come back hence his desire to go out and hunt kangaroos and insistance that noone tell him what he cant do (as the bomber that killed his family said he couldnt save them as his last words you see).

I reckon the radio might be on a stolen supertanker that was carrying a circus. It was shipwrecked on the other side of the island, and only a French trapeze artist survived aftrer the escaped polar bear killed everyone. She got the radio frequency wrong so it only broadcast a short way, but the supertanker battery is a big one so lasts a long long time. Meanwhile the escaped elephant helped Locke kill a boar as he is trained to help humans.....

......but I might be wrong lol.

Fun trying to think of theories isn't it!

Brilliant, cracking show this.
I really like the chracter of Locke. Do you think he was allowed to take those knives on as something to do with the walk he never did?
God I really felt for him when the tour leader ewas trelling him he'd have to get the plane back.
And OMG when he thought he might be paralysed again after the boar attack. That would be too cruel.
I wonder if this monster is a giant monkey as it seems to thrash about in the trees and grabbed the pilot out of the plane amd lifted him into the tree.
i too thought John was talking to a sex line girl.
Scary man in suit- :bag: don't like it.
And Charlie- bless him he's lovely but silly boy- what does he want to go taking that stuff for. Hope his come down isn't too bad.

re: billy and his drugs!!! what a step back from reality that is! any addict certainly wouldn't have taken enough stash to keep him that chilled for as long as Billy's been "chilled" for. He seems to have next to nothing in that grubby polythene bag doesn't he!

I'm not sure of the time span for how long they've been there. Even so, no-way would a strung out junkie have kept it together for that long!

Lost in Space and The Forbidden Planet is the same program! It had different names in different parts of the world. But there was also a movie called Forbidden Planet so it gets all confusing. I think, but not sure, that the movie (which also had Robby the robot (?)) was a pilot and led to the series  ??

Sorry to disagree but I don't think they were the same programme - and Robbie was from Forbidden Planet (The Film) - although he did make guest appearances in Lost in Space

Glad to hear you all are liking this show. I'd comment more on it but I'm afraid of spoiling as I don't always remember what happens in which episode. But this Locke episode was definitely among my favorites.
