View Full Version : When you start a thread.....

.... do you feel an ownership of it?

This is going on from something Slipper said about not being around enough to add to threads once if he started one.

Once I start a thread, I don't feel like I have to monitor it and I also don't feel that anyone who starts a thread has "special rights" in that thread. (not that I'm implying that's what Slipper meant!)

Am I just not aware of board etiquette? Or does anyone else feel the same?

Don't be ashamed if you do get all terroritorial you can admit it!

I don't care at all...

No, I don't feel I own it.

I just see it as throwing open any new topic of conversation - let it ride. Some topics inspire a lot of interest, some don't. End of, no shame - at least you tried.

Yes, actually I do  . In fact, in the dark days when there were people I loathed posting on here I used to get most miffed if they posted in one of my threads.

Similarly, I wouldn't post in one of theirs.

Call me old fashioned.

You know I had never thought about it, but I am thinking about it right now, and no - Me Casa, You Casa [or something like that]! Actually I am sometimes surprised when I see a thread I have forgotten about and see that I started it, I think 'gosh did I start that - wow!' or sometimes I go 'gosh did I start that - oh no!'

not only are you old fashioned but you are honest! ... a rather appealing combination if I may be so bold! :bag:

actually another train of thought ... does anyone not post in threads if it's started by someone they're not keen on?

I shall of course be going by a process of elimination here ... anyone who doesn't add to this thread doesn't like me!! of course it's too late for Floopy, Cat, Fee and Flip they are counted as people who adore me whether they like it or not!

I really don't care who started the thread and will scoot over most.

My biggest disappointment though was a thread I started about spelling and punctuation hoping to get lots of childish tips on how you use a comma, and how to remember the sequence of the planets for example.

Oh no.

It was taken over by Spellist's of an aggressive nature - bored the pants off me it did.

I don't feel an ownership but I do check up to see if anyone's replied to it, that's how sad I am!

There you go Dol, proves I like you! :wink_kiss

Your honesty is inspirational Floopy me darling......

yep, I too (some time ago), got "my feathers ruffled" over an ex member when they posted in one of the threads I had started and I was quite bluddy minded about NOT posting in any of theirs because I didnt like them, regardless of how interesting their actual post was........

But, on the whole, nah, it doesnt bother me, although its nice to start an interesting topic that gets loads of responses :D

I'm with Floopy on this, if I start a thread then I do feel it's 'mine' in a way and in the past I have noticed if certain people have boycotted them. Having said that I don't much give a monkey's and if it dies on it's ****, then so be it!

oh yes the boycotters of threads! lol! I can't guarantee who will boycott my threads and maybe just maybe they will join in if someone who they think is higher in the pecking joins in! lol!

btw .. it doesn't make me cross ...it just makes me laugh like a hyena!

Is there a pecking order here? Where am I, top middle bottom or under the table?

no darling there is no pecking order, per se, but I think some people have one in their minds!

I'm probably wrong though ... it wouldn't be the first time ... and it ain't gonna b the last time!

Maybe it's all in my head!

I haven't started many threads but I don't feel any ownership of those that I have. I just went to have a look and see how many I have started and its a miserly 13 as opposed to Dol 156 and Cat 185 I must try harder.

hang your head in shame! I want you to start at least one tonight!

Cat's total is absolutely marvellous in such a short space of time, she is what I call a contributor ....

No, but thankyou for that....where do you get to see how many threads people have started - is there a chart :w00t:

just realised where you go for such detailed information.

double click over my name in a thread and go to view profile on the left hand side is a thing that says "threads started by Dolores" go in there and you get a list of all the threads a poster has started (like a page of new posts) and at the bottom it tells you how many posts there are ... and I have to say I'm very impressed at the quality of my thread starts ... i do quite a lot of stuff outside of the coffee lounge you know!

:bye: Very interesting Dol, I have never looked there before - my personal fav of yours is the RIP my Cat thread, I know it was very poignant but you did make me larf...hadn't there been somebody just before that who's dog had died and it was suggested it was wrapped in chocolate or something.

One of my own, in fact a few, was a mad sunday afternoon that gave birth to the Normal1 catwalk, and cooking my chicken.

We do threads don't we. :bye:

On the rare occasion that I do start threads, I don't take power over it.
It's just there for people to add on to if they want.
I've never really thought about people boycotting thread because of who started it. Bit silly if you ask me.

Yes, Maz, but 122 of Cat's were pointless polls. I feel ownership of mine because I started them and nothing I do or say is banal.

Thank you.

I'm back, btw.

Hope you had a great time in Barthelona, Patsth....

Re the thread ownership thingey.... nah, if I start a thread, I dont really see it as mine. Like Andrea, its just for people to add stuff to if they want. If they dont, they dont..

If I start a thread I don't necessarily feel 'ownership' of it but it's always nice to get replies. having said that, I've started a fair few threads which have just disappeared after 1 or 2 replies and it doesn't bother me.

EDIT - just checked and I have started exactly 100 threads :)

I think it's quite galling when a thread receives no replies! I speak from bitter experience here ...
