Upon Dolores's thread re do you own your threads. I have decided to try it out. I am going to own this thread totally, you will do as I say and speak about what only I want to speak about.
Lets give it a whirl.....can you own a thread.
Topic tonight is......
Ornaments.
What sort do you have if any. I like to collect vases, glazed and of and odd shape, I have the odd pottery figure but mostly I have plants as a feature. What do you like to collect.
I dare!!!!!!
My ornaments.........hmmmmmm..........
downstairs, I have 3 wizards - my fave being a 3' high stone wizard called Gandalf (that freaked the dog out at 1st), loads of chuch style candles in various candle holders which are all black, a couple of dragons (there is deffo a gothic theme here  ), an alien smoking a big fat reefer and my collection of Buddha's :D
upstairs, I collect blue glass nick nacks, little bottles and vases and a big old fashioned pharmacy type bottle - they used to be in my bathroom in my old flat, but with a couple of teenagers in the house now, they are in our bedroom - I have discovered that teenagers, glass and bathrooms DO NOT mix well together :glare:
Dolores 25-08-2005, 07:37 PM I dont think i can post in this thread cos I don't own any ornaments .... can a moderator delete this please?
I love candles but have to keep them on the top of the dresser for now. Love the idea of a 3' dragon.
What I would really like is a suit of arms, kids can't smash that baby can they.
Having just got back from Brothers lovely cottage in Dorset they had bits of bark and shells ect....can't do that with a toddler, can't do **** all with a toddler - the little git will post everything out of sight.
****ing ornaments, ****ing torture!
Infact don't want to talk about this anymore... ****ed me off.
What about Boy Bands...lets talk about them especially Busted, I liked them...Discuss.

for some one who doesn't like boy bands as it goes Busted were Ok cos at least they played (or seemed to be playing) their own instruments.
As to what do I think of Charlie thinking he was too cool for Busted (see how much knowledge I have on the subject ... impressed huh!) well I think he got too big for his boots and he listened to people who said what he wanted to hear, ie. you're better than those other two boys why don't you leave and become all trendy and and cool and play music that no-one wants to listen to except a few mates who think they are cool too .....
that's what I think Cat!

get real love! you're old enough to be their older sister!
I thought that Nev (is that his name?!) was scarey ... there is something very unnatural about his eyes!
I thinik you are fogetting the original "boy band" ILS - the OSMONDS!!!!!
Then there was TAKE THAT and their video Take That and Party :naughty: :naughty: we used to have Take That nights at my flat (only a few short years ago) where we would get the videos out, have a few drinks and then PERV.......mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

I never think of the Osmonds as a boy band Isis, due to the fact they wrote their own music and played instruments.
I also loved That That and had my own Take That party only last week :naughty:
:sleepy: Bored now.
Gardening...what bulbs are we fashioning next spring then?

Popsicle 25-08-2005, 08:29 PM Well, I sneaked in and beaked around.
But I got scared so I am leaving now.
(Opens door and quietly tipitoes out)
I'm not scared!
All ornaments do is gather dust - and I hate manufactured boy bands!
I'm off now!
floopy 25-08-2005, 08:43 PM I hate ornaments, I like clean lines and minimalism.
I do have a few gargoyles though, although they havent found a home in our new house yet.
Boy bands are poo and gardening is boring.
tigger 25-08-2005, 08:50 PM That apostrophe is in the wrong place.
Not is it only in the wrong place, it shouldn't be there at all, along with the e!
Me, I'm a candle girl myself and stocked up big time when I went to the States. Has anyone ever heard of Partylite?
Bella 25-08-2005, 09:00 PM Only a couple of ornaments, as Rob says too much dust! Boybands, they have their place and I'll sing along to their music and dance along too! Saw Take That and had a very hoarse voice the next day. Do you know they spilt up 10 YEARS AGO?? I remember asking my boss if I could go home when it was announced on the radio that they had split up. It was a black day that day!
Gardening, all the seeds I planted this year - not one of the flowered, so can't be doing with gardening!

I reckon we are gonna see a clash of the titans any day now! :ninja:
which reminds me of a cruel joke Maxine once made up about me!
She was reading a book called The Titan ... I said what's that about ... and she said .... your skirt!!! (so the word titan has made me chuckle ever since!!!) It is more of verbal outloud gag than a written one ... come on try saying it out loud!

Well in the absences of Cat, I am remaining firmly on the beditime topic of bulbs.
Do you know I knew a lady who went to a party in someone's house, and some person had put daffodil bulbs in amongst the pickled onions [for a joke!!]. Anyway this lady ate some - and as you know daff bulbs are poisonous - and she got really really ill. So she went to her GP and told him what had happened, he said that she was very, very lucky for the sickness not to be any worse, and that she should get out come the Spring!
Right I'm back now and I declare this thread open for heated debate. I am choosing to ignore the fact that people posted in it after I had gone to bed, this time anyway.
I am going to pick up where we left off last night and continue discussing bulbs.
I have already starting making plans for spring - yes I really have - the DIY store down the road is selling off barrell bottoms for £9.99!!!! BARGAIN AHOY! So I'm buying one of those (might get two actually) and filling it with daff's, not any of the new double headed jobs OH NO, not any of that insipid variety with off white leaves Oh No! I like the good old fashioned daff's that are tall and a vibrant yellow all over - like this
http://www.usoe.org/curr/science/sciber00/7th/genetics/quiz/dafodill.jpg
"Toot toot, Toot toot" went the dafodill as the sun rose over the garden wall.

If you are driving down the road and go the wrong way the signs guide you back on track, they don't take you friggin off course do they, thats what signs are all about - a sign is a sign of things to come and past.
Its like the off side rule, if there wasn't one where would football be today...all over the place thats where.

How was Barcelona? Did you get mugged?
Did you buy shoes?
Patsy 26-08-2005, 10:30 PM Feeeeeeeeeeeeeef! Barcelona was moy moy bien, gracias. And the Catalans don't pronounce their Cs as "th" so the lingo was easier to grasp. No, I didn't get mugged and yes I bought shoes, though not fashionable ones as you'd imagine. Some flowery flip-flops and some "clown" shoes, as my boys call them. Did that much walking, comfort was key.
mazwad 26-08-2005, 10:33 PM Clown shoes? Picture please. Welcome back Patsy glad you had a nice time.
Patsy 26-08-2005, 10:35 PM Cheers, Mazza. My card is full, so I shall have to delete a picture in order to take one of my purchases especially for you. It shall be done!

Fee For All 26-08-2005, 11:00 PM I prefer the blue ones Patsy. Better for running.
We nearly got mugged twice in Barcelona.
mazwad 26-08-2005, 11:03 PM So have we succeded in hi-jacking Cat's thread she's gonna be mad y'know.
Patsy 26-08-2005, 11:10 PM Sod her. Serves her right for being a lightweight. Worried about upsetting your friends? Me? Pah! I spray in the face of the Cat.
The blue ones have surprisingly thin soles, Fee, so maybe running for the bus/tram, but not long distances. They're more like thicker bottomed verrucha shoes. Do you remember them?
I always carry valuables in my rather unattractive but practical "bum" bag (why is it called that when it sits on your belly?). We did see someone involved in an attempted mugging in the middle of the Ramblas. Prime spot, watching a street performance. He realised what was happening and turned round and lamped the guy.
Dolores 27-08-2005, 07:45 AM Patseee!!!
How was Barcelona? Did you get mugged?
Just before you left Patsy (well it must have been as you were boarding!) there was a holiday programme on about getting pick pocketed in Barcelona where apparently it is rife. My first thought was "tst Patsy wont be forewarned and may get pickpocketed" ... then I consoled myself with the funny story you would tell when you got back. Alas, no pick pocket incident and no funny story.
Welcome back btw, you've not missed much here, it's been raining mostly!

GO!
mazwad 27-08-2005, 08:01 AM I called my eldest son Clint as I was a big fan of Clint Eastwood at the time. I looked it up in a book of baby names and found it was an old English name not American as most people thought, I tossing out this little fact every time someone asked me scathingly why I had given him an American name. In my defence I was only just 17.
Ricky my second son was named after my brother Richard. We named him Ricky as my brother had always been called Dick and we didn't want him labelled little Dick. He is now just called Rick.

I have no idea why i called Luke, Luke. It has no signficance to me whatsoever and it is also very very common, at one time there were four Luke's in his class. So as for original, sparky names ... not my forte!
I did want to call him Henry cos of King Henry II who i thought was around at a marvellous time of history and on whom I'd read loads of books. But lots of people got all sniffy about the name saying he would be called Hooray Henry etc. Which I don't actually agree with now. Anyway after he was born I decided to call him Luke ... it's short but can't be shorted (not really) and he's got such a long surname that needs to be spelt out every time I felt it unfair to give him a complicated or unusual first name aswell!
They're more like thicker bottomed verrucha shoes. Do you remember them?.
Hmmmmm lovely!!
wb btw Patthy, tho pleasthed Barthelona wath fun!!
Jack was nearly Luke [boy] or Brogan [girl] - but there were 3 Luke's in hospital - so he became Jack, no real reason, short, simple, boyish I suppose.
Naith, was going to be Sebastian or Caspar [boy] or Phillipa [girl], but Mr F said he would stab me if I called him Seb or Caspar! So he became Nathan, and it has become Naith - again no reason, just liked it.
Blimey flip - your christening doo could have been a right blood bath!
I named Sam just because I like it, had no idea it was so popular at the time. Coincidently his initials spell SAM too - hows about that then. (A girl would have been Kristen  got that off Neighbours, was one of the producers on the credits - Kristen Brewster).
Ross was named specifically after the daring dooer of the Cornish Coast Ross Poldark - I read all the books and wern't there a lot,my memory starts to fade at book 9. Didn't have a girls name as we find out very early that he was a boy
The boys named Freddie, I just couldn't make up my mind even after he was born,in the running were James (Jamie), Frankie and Thomas (Tom), but in the boys out voted me. Didn't like it at first but I bloomin do now, fantastic name. A girl would have been Evie.
This is an exciting topic isn't it :w00t:
Patsy 27-08-2005, 09:56 AM Jack was named John, but always known as Jack (John is a strong family name on both sides), would have been Jessica (Jess). I wanted Joe, but a friend got there first. Tom wasn't named for a day or so coz we were convinced he would have been a girl (Bethan). In the end we decided he looked like a Tom, so christened him Thomas. He has Joseph and my maiden name as a middle names. Turns out, Mr P's grandfather and his brother were Jack and Tom. Pure coincidence, but perfect symmetry I think you'll agree.
Also thought about Ross for Tom, but gave it a mith due to the thtwong rithk of a lithp.

I can't remember why we called Em Emma..............it wasn't something we had considered but just entered the debate in the closing stages & raced right to the front. If she had been a boy she'd have been called Jack.
She wants to change her name to Jessica at the moment cos she thinks her own name is boring
We called our kids Niall and Paul because we liked the names - no other reasons.
Andrea 27-08-2005, 01:45 PM Sean was named so because Tony's dad is called John and Sean is the Irish version.
Not that we've got any Irish in our family, just that Tony's mum wouldn't go off on one thinking we favoured dad rather than her
But we both actually just liked Sean.
Steven was going to be called Jason at first, right up until a few months before he was born. When Tony met a Jason at work who was a right plonker so he couldn't be called that.
So somewhere Steven just came up.
If I was having a girl she would have been called Zoe. I loved that name and it wasn't from Eastenders either because we'd chosen that name when we lived in America.
Patsy 27-08-2005, 01:48 PM She wants to change her name to Jessica at the moment cos she thinks her own name is boring
I used to work with a girl called Julia Kathleen Wendy Anne Vale Hall - she called herself Harriet Hall and it really suited her. When she left she changed it to Danielle Brogue. She was a strange one.
When she left she changed it to Danielle Brogue. She was a strange one.
This policeman who I worked with was going out with a girl called something fairly normal - but she changed her name by deed poll - to wait for it .... Christina Onassis - and that is not one word of a lie!! [oh and she was a wpc too!!]
Right, thats enough of that then....new topic.
Lets talk about.....Garden Accessories (NOT BULBS).
I have purchased today a rather grande oak barrell bottom BARGAIN AHOY at £9.99 from Sam's DIY just down the road. It was pushed back to my house on a sack barrow. It looks greeeet.
Do you have accessories, pots (if so wooden or ceramic, please state), statues, wind chimes...what?
Spill.
We bought some wooden garden furniture at Easter - unfortunately the best weather of the summer was when we were in France - so we have not had as much chance to sit outside as we would have liked!!
Dolores 27-08-2005, 05:00 PM what is a bargain ahoy, when it's at home? pictures please!
what is a bargain ahoy, when it's at home? pictures please!
I will post a picture just for you tomorrow Dol...time is of the essence..MIL & SIL are approaching fast.
Patsy 27-08-2005, 05:08 PM Don't like gardens and hate ornaments. Next!
jaycee 27-08-2005, 05:18 PM we have wind chimes & Dave made a pergola (sp). Just a big seat really. We never actually used it & it's now covered with flowers.............garden is his area, bores me bandy.
Fee For All 27-08-2005, 06:46 PM I have three ceramic toadstools.
Patsy 27-08-2005, 08:06 PM Well at least that sounds slightly interesting. I'm rather partial to a toadstool. Picture please.
Andrea 27-08-2005, 09:07 PM Our garden ornaments are the kids toys and bikes :w00t:
Right , this is shut now...bogg off.
Andrea 27-08-2005, 09:13 PM Oops, what did I say :ninja:
Patsy 27-08-2005, 09:15 PM I suspect it's just boredom, Andrea, nothing personal.
Andrea 27-08-2005, 09:16 PM It must be the visitors, have they gone yet Cat or are they staying overnight.
Patsy 27-08-2005, 09:19 PM If it's MIL, then she has either gone or has had enough swill to not notice Cat's absence.
Come on then, lets have a debate about how you spend your time..
I have an affliction that I cannot, just cannot flop and relax - I always have to acheive something every day otherwise I think the flop and relax police will come and arrest me.
Today in my eyes I have taken it easy - I was up at 7am, did 4 loads of washing, scrapped the curry off the walls - cleaned the kitchen, did 2 hours worth of ironing, mowed the lawn, trimmed my California Blue bush/tree, drilled a hole in my new Oak Barrell - blimey oak is a hard wood and cooked a lasagne for tea tonight. Only then can I reward myself with a beer sprawled in the garden...Mr Cat is the same.
Is being able to relax a gift or a goal?
Discuss.
Patsy 28-08-2005, 04:30 PM I'm the other way, Cat, as you know. Making the lasagne alone would deserve a reward in my book.
I'm the other way, Cat, as you know. Making the lasagne alone would deserve a reward in my book.
Thats not discussing Patsy...come on, expand why.
Patsy 28-08-2005, 04:35 PM Unfortunately, I am a very unenergetic, naturally lazy person and it's the bain of my life as your over-activity is of yours. I am apathetic to the nth degree and will avoid physical activity/work/chores whenever possible. At work, I am very conscientious and hardworking, as you know, but at home I am Mrs Sloath. In fact, I might just change my avatar. Might.
msgirl 28-08-2005, 06:11 PM I'm with Patsy-if I can find a distraction I'll take it. But then I have to get in gear later on b/c I feel I should have X amount of chores done. msgirl
Are you all saying I'm a freak then?
Patsy 28-08-2005, 06:21 PM Not everyone, I'm sure.
Critique 28-08-2005, 08:29 PM I'm definitely a Patsy rather than a Cat.
Getting up in the morning is a major achievement. Don't do today what you can put off til tomorrow is my motto. This does, however, cause me to have the occasional "Cat" day.
For example, I have all week to pack and get organised for going away on Saturday. Normal people would start the washing, ironing and organising of clothes etc. tomorrow I suspect. I, on the other hand, will think about it all week and come Thursday evening I will start to panic and by Friday I will be dashing about wishing I wasn't going cos it's all too much effort.
mazwad 28-08-2005, 08:40 PM I am a mix of Patsy and Cat. I can be very lazy and enjoy it and then I start to stress out about things I should have done and run around like a blue ar$ed fly.
I wonder where that expression came from could be a topic there Cat.
Andrea 28-08-2005, 10:08 PM Hey this should be one of those surveys...."Are you a Patsy or a Cat?"
Personally I'm a Patsy.
I am the worlds worst procrastinator.
At work though, like Patsy I am diligent and do work hard, but at home, any way I can get out of doing something I will find it.
I am a mix of Patsy and Cat. I can be very lazy and enjoy it and then I start to stress out about things I should have done and run around like a blue ar$ed fly.

Thats and excellent topic idea Maz...go on start that thread - you know you can.
Coastie 29-08-2005, 10:22 AM I'm a Coastie :bag:
At work I am fairly well organised - but I have to work hard at it!
I keep putting things off at home - and rerely get anything done.
Does that make me a Patsy?
Patsy 30-08-2005, 08:44 AM 'fraid so Robster. It as a compliment, btw. :)
Coastie 30-08-2005, 11:27 AM Has anyone ever been afraid of a scarecrow?
Yes. I couldn't watch Worsel Gummidge when I was little.
Coastie 30-08-2005, 11:30 AM It was aunt Sally that used to freak me out Peej.....we have a line manager that is the spit of Worzel Gummidge!
Dolores 30-08-2005, 07:56 PM Has anyone ever been afraid of a scarecrow?

Being that it is MY thread, I am just letting things ride. A good boss should always do this.

Patsy 30-08-2005, 09:22 PM This thread smells of wee.
Coastie 31-08-2005, 07:24 PM Actually Pats I was getting a waft of sulphur and a slight whiff of poo.....
Do you like minis?
Do you like minis?
skirts yes - just looking girls wearing them though :bag:
cars no - especially the new ones
Mars bars - yes but there's not nearly enough in them!
Right thats enough now.
New topic.
Underwear....do you wear it, does it match; are socks underwear?
Discuss with passion please.
Coastie 31-08-2005, 07:34 PM Sorry Cat did you say something.....
Rob, I have to say I have never worn a mini skirt...it would not be a good look for me but I don't mind the old mini coopers and as for mini mars bars you're quite right there is never quite enough!
I wear mini's love em...in the winter I wear short mid calf lenghth skirts with thick gussetted black tights and trendy boots. I wear a bra to work but as soon as I get home I take it off (and my contact lenses) - hate wearing bra's really do. I don't wear pants under my tights but will reluctantly wear a thong for non lineage.
Non of my under hose is frilly, most is black and no two peices match.
Coastie 31-08-2005, 07:40 PM Do you match your pants to the colour of your mini?
jaycee 31-08-2005, 07:49 PM I love thongs, hate bra's........................& my underwear never matches!
jaycee...how the bloomin hell can you like thongs!!! It is beyond me...don't you chaff or are you none sweaty woman.
I have staggered home on more than one occasion and had to apply the Sudo Cream liberally.
Coastie...only wear thongs in the summer, they are all black so it dosn't matter as I don't wear see thru things.
I never wear any pants with trousers, can't cope with a double gussett.
I'm so glad I've got small tits, I can just about go without a bra, which I do often.
Coastie 31-08-2005, 08:00 PM I tried a thong once....never seen it since!
I have to wear a bra or I'd have me eyes out on!
Patsy 31-08-2005, 08:53 PM Used to make my own thongs by cutting the bum out of my silky teddy pants, but only if I had to. Don't wear either any more. Comfy briefs for me, bras from La Senza and nothing matches. No-one ever sees it anyway.
Most of my pants are grey.
Coastie 31-08-2005, 08:56 PM Do you like marrows Patsy?
Patsy 31-08-2005, 08:57 PM Yes. Preferably stuffed. I actually make a mean one.
She'll get cross with you, you know.
Coastie 31-08-2005, 08:59 PM I don't like them...I don't mind their baby cousins...the courgette but I find Marrows to slimey, stuffed or otherwise...
msgirl 31-08-2005, 09:00 PM Fruit of the Loom Ladies 'Boy style brief' for me (no elastic round the leg!!!) and a cotton bra, underwire if I'm trying to look put together, NON underwire if I doing the domestic goddess thing. Nothing matches but it's all nice looking as I would kill my maternal ancestry if I got in a wreck or fell out somewhere and had holey 'drawers',
Patsy 31-08-2005, 09:01 PM I, too, am a fan of the zucchini (don't you hate that?) and it is a much more versatile little sucker, but I feel you are maligning the marrow unjustly.

msgirl 31-08-2005, 09:06 PM I see, I see...must type faster.... :bored:
Coastie 31-08-2005, 09:07 PM Well my mum has tried ot convince me that the Marrow is an honest food that should be enjoyed....I however cannot eat it without a desire to puke!
MissG...I thought squash was more along the lines of a pumpkin....I know you call Swede (yum) Rudebager (or something that sounds like that)...I'm confused now...head hurts...
msgirl 31-08-2005, 09:15 PM O.K. Coastie...vegetables in American: zucchini, crook neck(yellow), spaghetti, and butternut are squash. A rhutabaga is a rhutabaga. A pumpkin is something for Fall, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and pies. Yams are sweet potatoes that are cooked down with sugar and water to be syrupy. Beets are just beets, I think y'all call them beetroot. I don't know...
Coastie 01-09-2005, 03:46 AM During my time state side MissG I came to realise the following:
US = UK
Zucchini = Courgette (green like a cucumber)
Squash = a kind of pumpkinny thing but not an actual pumpkin.
Rhutabaga = swede (part of the turnip family)
Yam = yam or sweet potato
Beets = Beetroot
Corn - Sweet corn (loose) or corn on the cob (still on the cob)
But I do not recall seeing any marrows....do you get giant zuchini type vegetables over there?
I did actually get a free book during my last visit to the States written by the 'Sweet Potato Queen' - she was a guest on a chat show I had free tickets for (very freaky woman)- I left my copy at the youth hostel but my mate kept hers!
Coastie 01-09-2005, 05:49 AM What are your views on the unique qualities of the arrow frog?
PATSY, COASTIE AND MISSISSIPPI GIRL.
I will see you in my office at 10am please. You will bring with you an explanation - written down - as to why you chose to go off topic. The Underwear discussion was lively and going well; what you did Coastie was pure sabotage. There will be repercussions I can warn you.
10am - don't forget.
I shall start a new topic now seeing as the underwear one was soiled.
Haircuts - do you change style often or just trim - don't worry if you have no hair you can join in by telling us if you rub or comb, oil or grease your barnet. There is room for everyone here....come on.

Please clarify

Good point Cockney, I didn't make myself clear did I. This discussion does include pubic hairstyles.

Special occasions like what?
Christmas and birthdays?
Patsy 01-09-2005, 09:50 AM Yes, yes that's right. :)
Although, at the risk of going :offtopic: (bothered), apparently to my husband my birthday is not a special occasion and warrants no special effort whatsoever. Just because for the last few years we have been on holiday on my birthday, this is enough apparently.
Bonsai 01-09-2005, 09:51 AM Actually, i was looking at my lawn the other day and thinking it needed a good trim up

Bonsai 01-09-2005, 10:54 AM You're welcome. I do photos as well, 50p each. Quite reasonable im sure you'll agree :wink2:
I have a regular trim every 4/6 weeks :ninja:
I'm growing layers out at the moment so a minimalist trims every couple of months.

what can I say Cat you are the best
And I also have a hair cut every 8 weeks :D
Cockney 01-09-2005, 01:34 PM And I also have a hair cut every 8 weeks :D
When I said, Cat was the best I was being sarcastic
Why is it that when I have my hair cut it costs ten pounds but when women have there, hair cut it costs sixty pounds?
Are you all just having us men over and really your hair costs a tenner and you buy a new dress to go with it for fifty quid?
Bonsai 01-09-2005, 01:41 PM Why is it that when I have my hair cut it costs ten pounds but when women have there, hair cut it costs sixty pounds?
Mine only costs £10 :bag: hence the bag over my head.
Cockney 01-09-2005, 01:44 PM I only have one long thin pubic hair
No wait ... hang on..... I am wrong that’s not a hair
mazwad 01-09-2005, 04:29 PM Had a heart shape done once for Valentines day (waxed and tweezered for definition) Mr M pi$$ed himself laughing.
Patsy 01-09-2005, 05:44 PM Mine costs £25, but I only go a few times a year. I have lots of layers and it just seems to grow well. Have to chop my own fringe though.
Andrea 01-09-2005, 09:59 PM Actually, i was looking at my lawn the other day and thinking it needed a good trim up
My hubby just the other day lifted up a bit of my lawn up and filled it to level it off:w00t:
My hair really needs a cut as well, it's getting a bit unruly now. I called a mobile hairdresser that a friend had used and her hair looked really nice. But she hasn't go back to me yet.
So if she doesn't ring soon, I shall book myself in at a hairdressers in town when the kids are back at school
Coastie 02-09-2005, 04:34 AM Sticky Treacle sponge and custard....yum yum, scrum bum!
That's enough now.
Todays topic is going to be .....Sweets of my Youth.
So come on then...discuss - and no spitting.

I wish they'd bring back Aztec.
Andrea 02-09-2005, 01:44 PM Yep, they are bringing back the Texan bar for a short period.

Fee For All 02-09-2005, 09:26 PM Slightly sideways, but if I may ask a question in your thread cat?
What colour was cream soda where you grew up? I used to find it quite exotic that when we stayed with my grandparents in Liverpool it was a bright emerald green drink, instead of the clear we had in Scotland. Weused to drink it with a scoop of ice-cream in it.
Patsy 02-09-2005, 09:28 PM Ours was clear (and disgusting), but I have heard of the green stuff.
Andrea 02-09-2005, 09:30 PM Never really had cream soda, but always used to have coke floats when I was a kid.
Coke with a blob of ice cream in it, yummy.
I never had cream soda either, just coke floats like Andrea!
Fee For All 02-09-2005, 09:36 PM Cream soda were my favourite, followed by Vimto. I didn't like coke much when I was a kid but I always had a bottle when I went skating on Saturday mornings, withone of those squishy chocolate and coconut covered 'Snowballs'
Then home to watch Champion the Wonder Horse
Andrea 02-09-2005, 09:40 PM Ooooh Vimto, I used to drink loads of that.
And for some reason Saturday was always Heinz tomato soup day.
So Saturday Superstore, tomato soup with bread dunked in and then watch Big Daddy on the wrestling in the afternoon.
I loved Creamola Foam - It was a powder - add water and hey presto a fizzy drink!
They stopped making it a good few years back:sad:
Patsy 02-09-2005, 09:45 PM Think we've kind of veered off the sweets topic, but so far so good. So childhood food-related memories then?
Sunday night was always bread and jam or similar with a milky drink, having had the full monty roast at lunchtime.
Fee For All 02-09-2005, 09:46 PM Oh god, I loved Creamola Foam - the pink one especially. It was in little tins, little blue tins wasn't it? I used to give my little brother Andrews Liver Salts instead. He was convinced it was the real thing.
Oh god, I loved Creamola Foam - the pink one especially. It was in little tins, little blue tins wasn't it? I used to give my little brother Andrews Liver Salts instead. He was convinced it was the real thing.
The pink one was raspberry I think! - and it was my favourite too!
Wish I'd tried the Andrews on my little brother!
mazwad 02-09-2005, 11:59 PM We used Andrews liver salts in orange squash to make a fizzy drink and Jusoda for ice-cream floats.
Sunday tea was always pilchard sandwiches and coconut cake that my mum used to make in a big roasting tin. I also remember beef dripping on toast and sugar sandwiches. Beef was a cheap joint then and chicken was expensive how times change.
Going back to cream soda - it was clear. It had a funny taste, the initial sip was nice and smooth then an acidity shot up your nose leaving a perculiar, almost dentist like, after taste. Not for the faint hearted.
00h also, do you remember that Sunshine packet drink mix?
Patsy 03-09-2005, 08:54 AM Rise and shine? I used to like that, but we weren't allowed it. Also, Ski yoghurts used to be virtually plain and really sharp and tangy, with big blobs of fruit in it. Much nicer than the powdery rubbish we get now.
00h also, do you remember that Sunshine packet drink mix?
Was it called Sunshine or was it called Florida Sunshine?? I remember my mum getting this triangular [I think] small packet of Florida Sunshine powder drink mix - we were thrilled to our boots - it was heavenly, zingy and orangey.
We used Andrews liver salts in orange squash to make a fizzy drink
oooooo - we did this too and it wasn't too bad as I recall!
I also remember beef dripping on toast and sugar sandwiches.
I loved beef dripping sandwiches, and I would chew on raw suet as well. And we used to have sugar on toast!!
I'm another who loved beef dripping sandwiches and sugar on toast - god how bad for you they were
Patsy 03-09-2005, 09:06 AM Never had either of the above, but I did used to get home from school and have a ketchup sandwich and a mug of milk. We used to get through 6 pints of milk a day in our house.
Does anyone remember ketchup with bits of onion in it? It was blummin lovely.
I don't remember ketchup with onion in, Patsy but ketchup sandwiches was a favourite of mine, in fact I still have one even now, once in a while.
Fee For All 03-09-2005, 11:03 AM What about Toast Toppers? It looked like catsick and you grilled it on toast.
Andrea 03-09-2005, 11:10 AM My son is addicted to ketchup sandwiches.
And your right Fee, those toast toppers looked absolutely disgusting.
I was another partial to a sugar butty, always at my Grandma's though, never at home.
And my Grandma always made some lovely home-made mushroom soup, yummy.
My grandfather used to love Cheddar cheese on gingerbread - it's surprisingly edible!
tonee 03-09-2005, 03:41 PM cheese, apple and rich fruit cake ate together are yummy. Quite like the idea of cheese and gingerbread - might give that a try.
tonee 03-09-2005, 03:42 PM I'm another who loved beef dripping sandwiches and sugar on toast - god how bad for you they were
I dont know what a beef dripping sandwich is - am I being dense here? Sugar on toast but cinnamon on toast, I have just remembered how much I love that. This thread is going to put on the pounds!
tonee 03-09-2005, 03:45 PM Oh god, I loved Creamola Foam - the pink one especially. It was in little tins, little blue tins wasn't it? I used to give my little brother Andrews Liver Salts instead. He was convinced it was the real thing.
i loved creamola foam.
Carnation milk
Chunky chicken in a tin
I dont know what a beef dripping sandwich is
Beef Dripping is a mixture of lard the beef was cooked in and the beef juices, left to stand so it went hard and then spread on bread.
Fee For All 03-09-2005, 05:36 PM ...and talking of dripping - Jubblies. A lump of flavoured ice in a funny triangular carboard box that used to go soggy and drip all over your Ladybird t-shirt.
Thats enough....stop it now.
Lets talk about the British Monarchy.
Do you like them, do you have a favourite, are they all mad with interbreeding?
Lets find out.....discuss.
Fee For All 03-09-2005, 05:52 PM They're a waste of space; completely out of touch and I only hope they let William have some influence as soon as possible as he might get rid of all the hangers-on and be more down-to-earth.
I liked Fergie.
Bella 03-09-2005, 05:52 PM Not a huge lover to be honest - my friend's mum worked at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh and the rudest, most vile Royal was The Queen Mother. She looked down on everybody.
Are you watching ITV by chance, Cat?!!
I am hoping the next generation of Royals will be a bit more relaxed and be a bit more like The Royals in Europe........... and blend into the background!

I said them earlier. I used to nick...... erm buy them from the shop near school. :bag:

STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT!
The Monarchy Patsy - behave.
tonee 03-09-2005, 07:43 PM I dont have a big for or against regarding the monarchy. They're good for tourism, Diana was great for charities and fashion, Charles brought out the environment, architecture and a very good trust. The others are kind of just there, eating, drinking and shaking hands in the background. they make no real impact on my life. I have met a few though, all very decent and polite.
I think they have there place. The ones I like/liked are The Queen Mum, Diana, Fergie and William.
