Did anyone see this last night. I thought it was good, although kinda slow. Im looking forward to this evenings episode where i think the pace will pick up.

I agree Bob a very disturbing but great drama. I have always liked the actress that played Marian, she was a paramedic in Casualty.

Did no-one else think it was predictable then? No? I switched over to Extreme Makeover.

I've watched this and was a little disappointed. Great story and effects, but somehow it just didn't come off - not sure wether it was the script or the acting - bit of both probably.

I thought it was predictable as well Patsy, but I still enjoyed it.

I watched this but was left feeling rather disappointed. It has stated at the beginining that it was based on actual events, I would have liked to have seen Marian reunited with her parents. There were too many gaps for me:

1. Who was the plumber (can't remember his name), Marian's captor talking to in the woods?
2. Who was the original Suzi?
3. Why didn't Chris go to the Police?
4.Why didn't he go to Marian's father?

I watched because there was nothing else on and I wanted to find out the ending but when it ends I thought was that it? It never told you the full story and never told you what happened to Marian - very disappointing.

It seemed slow to begin with and rushed at the end.

It annoyed me when Chris went round to get her after the phone call and wasn't able to detect that she had some sort of mental problem and was able to quickly slip back into the happy go lucky character he was at the start of the programme.

I still enjoyed it though.

I enjoyed the 2nd half better than the 1st. But, the same as Bella i was a tad dissapointed with the ending. I wanted to see what happened to Marian, and see her reunited with her family .... and maybe get a glimpse a few years down the line at how Marian had recovered etc..

Bella - i think the woman in the woods was the real Suzi, who he obviously killed and buried alive.

Yeah, I sort of thought that Bonnie but this was never confirmed and you never found out if he really loved her, if he did kill her or was she killed by someone else..........it was quite poor script-writing........where is Coastie when you need her?!

Thats true. Its only an assumption. I assumed that he buried her as he kept on talking about his 'buried alive' trick (sorry for my earlier contradiction  ). Gawd knows why though - but if it had been a normal death, then he would of reported it wouldnt he.

I wasn't having a go, Bonnie just agreeing with you :) - he did keep going on about the buried alive but I think like you I just "assumed" that he had done it. There were just too many bits of missing information throughout!

Do you know the saying for ASSUME - it makes an ASS out of U & ME!?

I just hope that the other Dramas that have been advertised are better than this one!

Watched both episodes back to back this morning and have to say I kind of enjoyed it.....but!

I did wonder over several things however:

Surely after 15yrs Mirian would have aged a bit more...in fact the only one who looked to have aged at all was her father.....!

A young woman goes missing......people seem to assume she is dead. This alone would suggest Police were involved at some stage....Tompkinsons character would have been dragged through the mire initially being the last to see her and all.....the on going police investigation would have generated much publicity...Josie his wife would have known something about it given as she seemed to be a local girl when they met. The girls father ran a local hardware store...people would see the girls photo and since she hadn't changed a bit some one would have recoggnised her darting around the shops at some stage....people who scurry around like she did attract attention as they look odd....

How long was she kept in the box? Long enough for her to be brainwashed....It would have been full of poo and wee surely but the sheets seemed fairly clean!

Stephens character didn't add up.....surely he would have spoken to the girls father (which he apparently did according to one line of text and he had said he wasn't interested and yet he still had a missing person poster in his shop!) and he would have wanted it checked out.....and....how more obvious did she have to make it that she was either mentally ill or extremely frightened and yet Mr Bevan laid into her like a ton of bricks about being cruel and twisted....one minute he's saying talk to me and as good as stalking her and then when she does try and explain he freaks and tells her to stay away from him and his family....I didn't think she even knew he had a family?

It was inspired by true events...the only one I can think of is the estate agent who was kept in a wheelie bin...Micheal Sams was her capture (I think)....any other guesses out there?

The Suzi grave thing.....Owen Teals character appears to have killed his real wife and buried her there and never gotten over it or.....he lost his wife tragically and that was a fave beauty spot where they liked to go and share marmite and cucumber sandwiches and a flask of tomato soup....I's go with him killing her...it was never fully explained but I hate having to assume!

All that said....

I have over the last couple of years become a bit of an Owen Teal fan and him being so nasty in this was a particular treat....

Well reported Coastie.

Lots of unanswered questions made it weak.

As above Coastie, well documented and what you have said did make this drama very poor.

When Chris Bevan spoke of talking to the father that was when Marian first went missing, so he never even spoke to him after he realised that Marian was alive.

And yes you are right about Josie as she would have known who Marian was and it appeared to me that she was interested in Chris when he was going out with Marian.

As you have proven Coastie, this script has got holes all over it!

The other thing - would people not have found it strange that Mr Magic Man suddenly got a new assistant!?

I thought it was based losely on Christine McGuire, the book of her story is 'Perfect Victim'. She's Amercian, but was kept in a box like Marian was.

I also read an interview with the actress who played Marian, and she said it was based on Sabine Dardenne who was kidnapped by paedophile Marc Dutroux - the book of her story is 'I Choose to Live'. I haven't read this one yet - but I'm going to order it from Amazon.

Hmmm...cheers Minks...I had wondered if it was based on an american crime since as I've said I hadn't heard of anything this side of the pond that came that close to the story being told in Mirian Again...I will keep a lookout for both books you have mentioned at the local charity shops! I have heard of stories state side where people have been abducted and then brainwashed into following some kind of cult but this is a different kettle of fish!

Bella......I was thinking why hadn't anyone queried the fact that magic man would have gone out of the loop for a while and then as if by magic he pops up with another assistant oddly named Suzi...he takes her around with him to local shows and well surely someone would have thought...'Eee up she don't 'alf look like that girl oo went missin' a few year back....'....if indeed it was a few years that she was locked in the box....I mean without knowing how long she was in the box and how long it was before she was used as an assistance it's just all nonsense!

On another side line: Did anyone watch that 'Kill me if you can' program based on the true story of two boys who became friends through a chatroom and one thing led to another and it transpired that one of the boys was playing various characters and manipulating his friend till in the end he actually ordered the friend to kill him (plotted his own murder) as a way for the lad to qualify fully into the secret service....like the boys lawyers said not even the best writers in the world had thought that one up!

I shall continue to work on my 'Hear, See, Speak' screenplay and then I will show them how it's done....the first draft was done yonks ago and I have been having it reviewed....it needs tightening up in a few places but hey....I reckon it could lead to a series! :smartie: I dream because I can and when the dream comes true.......I'll remember all of you...cos you're all fab!
