View Full Version : Brian Harvey
alicepearlpilot 22-11-2004, 06:12 PM What do you guys make of Brian?
Do you think hes the scumbag drugie that the media had him made out to be in the years gone by since he got kicked out of East17 or do you think hes an ordinary decent bloke?
Also what do you think his chances of winning are?
Voice of reason 22-11-2004, 07:38 PM Hi alice and welcome to SO :)
Hummm, well we didn't really see enough of Brian last night for me to have formed any opinion of him yet, but I did feel a bit sorry for him when he arrived in the camp only to have Janet greet him with the warming and welcoming line "Ahhh Nahhh, not anaaaver blaaaady smaaaakaaa"
I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of bloke he is since all I know is the (bad) press that I've read. As for winning...well, it's too early to say, but I think he'd have to go some to beat Joe at the moment :)
longshot 22-11-2004, 07:45 PM He seems like an ok bloke that got caught up in drugs because he was in the position of having too much cash, too young, on someone elses talent and ended up thinking he was a bit "special".
I doubt he thinks like that anymore and hopefully we'll see that the last few years have taught him some humility.
I hope he comes out of it with a better public profile than when he went in.
He's had a tough couple of years and deserves a break.
boubou 22-11-2004, 08:25 PM I think people should leave him a chance a he is such a great guy.
What he did before but be forgot by now,he did something stupid for sure but do we have to blame him all the time for this.
He will certainly be in the last contestants.
Go on B, i'm sure u can make it!!!
Pandora 22-11-2004, 09:18 PM He hasnt really had much air time yet but seems a pleasant enough bloke.
I like him. I think he's a contender.
I would have respected him more if he went with his gut feelings and stayed at home to say farewell to his gran.
But now he's there, like the others, I haven't seen enough of him to form much of an opinion, except that I don't like the colour of his hair.
I quite like him so far, he is not at all like I thought he would be.....
The drugs thing was a long time ago and I think everyone deserves a 2nd chance.
You know much has been made of Brian and his past drug habit, and he was denegrated over it. How many celebs have had this problem?? Tons, Sophie Anderton, Daniella Westbrook, Elton John to name a few ... so I think Brian's past should remain just that.
Agree to some extent with Nox' comment about his Gran - but he didn't hear about his Nan until he arrived in Oz, and it was a decision, that had to made that in all likelihood would affect his future career, ergo life. I am sure his Nan is sitting up there being all smiley and proud of him.
I think he is ok - but I just have not seen enough of him to form a massive opinion of him.
karenh 22-11-2004, 10:04 PM Haven't seen enough of the bloke to form an opinion, but he seems nice enough so far.
I agree though that his past is his past. He's taken drugs and ruined his career because of them, but as someone else here said, he's not the first person on IAC that applies to. I'm prepared to see how he goes on the show and make my opinion on that.
Pandora 22-11-2004, 10:26 PM I would just like to add, that he does seem a teensy bit vacant and inarticulate? When Burrell mentioned Prince William and Tom Hanks in the same conversation, Brian's reply was "Yeh Prince William - he'll make a blindin king" and "Wow Tom Hanks.... bliiiiiinnnnndinnnnn...."
sheoque 22-11-2004, 10:40 PM I think Brian knew his Nan was impressed he was going and I don't think he would have stayed if his grandad had not given the ok nod.
Sometimes it takes over a week for a funeral so who knows he may be home for it. Sounds really morbid but it took nearly 10 days to get a slot for my mums at the crematorium...so maybe he knows something we don't.
His grandad and nan were very proud of him so this could be honouring her encouragment and belief in him.
Sometimes young mormons go off on their door knocking mission for 18months to 24months leaving a terminally ill parent or sibling behind knowing they will never see them again or get to the funeral. It can happen to anyone. Thats a good thread topic.
alicepearlpilot 22-11-2004, 10:41 PM To give my opinion so far Brian is my favourite contestant in the jungle.
Sure he got caught up in drugs in the past, but il go on record saying this alot more popstars were taking es back then in the mid 90s then you know about.
Its easy to forget that back then they were the in thing and drug of choice in Britan with the rave seen and all that.
Brian was extremly unlucky to have had such bad luck.
Like someone else said he was too young, had too much cash and nothing to spend it on to know any better,if a rockstar mde those comments bout es like he did there wudnt be near as much up roar, but i agree that his comments were inappropriate for someone who was a pin up too teenage girls all across Britian.
Il also add that he was the only one out of East 17 that had any talent.
But his actions and comments back then robbed him of his career.
I just hope that he gets one thing out of all this is that when he comes out of the jungle that his profile will have improved with the public and he wont be dismissed as a drugie like he has in the press for the last 5 or more years.
The last thing il say is that i hope Brian wins and gets his career back on track, god knows he deserves it theres people out there with succesful careers that are a lot less talented then he is.
Dolores 23-11-2004, 07:38 AM I'm always surprised at the faux "outrage" of the media when a young pop star talks openly about drugs.
I don't know much about Brian, I think he is borderline thug but maybe pop saved him! I dunno.
Anyway he seems OK on this programme. As for carrying on after his gran died, well I think he's right she probably would have wanted him to, but I just wish he wouldn't keep saying "I'm doing this for my gran" all the time!
Bella 23-11-2004, 08:24 AM The sad thing is he was spot on with his comments on drugs! Young people do take drugs - fact! It was the media who made it out that he was glamourising it, I guess his comments were taken out of context.......as per usual.
He had already admitted to his drug problem, there are loads of pop-stars out there who claim they have a squeaky cleam image when all the time they are popping the drugs, they are the ones I am more concerned about!
I like Brian, I think he is a kinda down to earth guy, I agree with Pan he is a bit vacant, but then again a lot of pop stars are, aren't they? :ninja:
Voice of reason 23-11-2004, 09:34 PM What was he talking about tonight when he said 'he lived in the real world and didn't eat wet rice?' Talk about whinger, fair enough it's edited for effect, but what an odd thing to say.
Oh well, he can feast to his heart's content tomorrow. I just hope the chef remembers not to put too much slug slime in the snail and slug pie as we know he doesn't like it wet.
You could see it coming a mile off, but he was his own worst enemy and he wasn't even slightly surprised when he was picked. Rice is going to be a luxury after what he has to eat.
I took his "real world" comment to be about his normal diet. Low carb, maybe? He was just grumpy because he was hungry, probably.
I still like him. And I think Janet does, too.
alicepearlpilot 23-11-2004, 10:30 PM In my opinion Brian made the show funny tonight and lightened it up abit after the past 2 nights of Natalie drama.
I thought it was hilarious when janet and co were trying to go asleep and then there was Brian wide awake and has high as a kite.
And in all fairness you have to admit that the wet rice section of the show was hilarious when he yobbed on about been told where to smoke and leave his toothpaste.
Hes also the only one thats stood up to Janet so far and deep down i think she likes him and respects him for it.
Lets hope Brian keeps on entertaining us with his views on wet rice and the jungle food tasting like ****.
Brian to win.
secrets 23-11-2004, 10:37 PM Yes he got away with it tonight, if you count being voted for the trial as getting away with it, but he is reputed to have a short fuse, and as he is still vulnerable after the death of his granny, it would not take a lot to push him over the edge. Some things are forgiven and forgotten on this show - but go too far and there is no going back.
Scooby 23-11-2004, 10:37 PM I don't like the colour of his hair. You took the derogatory comment right out of my mouth. Quite how he expects to win with a barnet like that is beyond me.
cheerio!
Pandora 23-11-2004, 10:53 PM What was he talking about tonight when he said 'he lived in the real world and didn't eat wet rice?' Talk about whinger, fair enough it's edited for effect, but what an odd thing to say. Yes it was rather odd.
Still, I was rather delighted to see that he may have to eat rather wet, nasty bugs to get his meal tomorrow, so hopefully it will shut him up.
I found the bouncing around in camp noisily when others were trying to sleep a tad irritating. There was no real consideration for others .... it was childlike - "Im awake so therefore everyone else has to be":glare:
Dj High Hopes 23-11-2004, 11:28 PM Brian Harvey is a joker. He was cracking me up tonight. I think Janet is brilliant too. They are the best two in their by far. People are saying Brians a winger, but what about Natalie! She cant even touch a tree! Oh yeah she really lives in the real world doesn't she!!! And is it me or is Huggy lazy? He hasn't done nothing so far. Paul seems really EVIL! Dont like him. Joes really funny, I think he'll win (everyone likes the funny guy, how boring ha ha ha!) Sophie is soooo fine. Fran? Sheilas soooo annoying. Nancys ok. :cool2:
Critique 24-11-2004, 12:15 AM I was surprised how nervous he seemed about the forthcoming trial. He kept on repeating, "pies", "yeah gotta be food", "pies" over and over. I know, of course, they must all be nervous about the trials but I thought he would have hidden it better and done the "nothing to it" act. Quite sweet really - showing his vulnerability.
alicepearlpilot 24-11-2004, 09:53 PM How awful was that task tonight.
I dont know how any of the contestants could of done well on that.
Im sure them flies didnt do his food cravings or appetite any favours.
Still the funniest in the camp to date.
Didnt seem to let the leader role get the better of him since he was still fast asleep when everyone else was up freting about the chores for the day.
Voice of reason 26-11-2004, 09:37 PM Oh dear.
What a difference a few days (and a few flies) make. Was he joking about the spray tan? Please tell me he wasn't serious
Just playing Dol's game.....
i still think he is a bit of a tw*t myself :w00t:
