This guy was on GMTV this morning, but am i the only one who cant stand him ? I find his music boring, the way he plays and jumps around irritating, and he looks like a hampster ...... And what is happening with that ultra high forehead which he covers up with a dodgy hairstyle ?

Maybe i am alone, as Fiona Philips treated him like a demi god :ninja:

I dont like him much Bonsai. Probably partly due to the fact that he looks about 11 to me.

his music doesnt "suit" him - he looks like he belongs in McFly

I think he is very talented, but he isnt all that as far as my music tastes go - I am mostly playing Kasabian and The Doves at the mo!

He's not my thing, but I think he is talented. He brings a fresh approach to jazz and swing. Don't mind watching once in a while on Parky, but that's about it.

I am Coastie and I detest Jamie Cullum!

I looked at the title of this thread and thought....oh no a Jamie cullum fan that needs shooting....I am so happy that I am not alone in the loathing of Jamie camp!

My friend met him backstage once where she was working and he is a short assed, up his own asss little tooooossssser.....was her overall impression of him and that was before she heard his out of tune plinky plonky yawny music!

Nope, don't get him, not a fan, go and put yourself in an understairs cupboard and play to your hearts content under there where I can't hear you.

Hello Bonsai

Certain artists and certain styles in music could be said to require getting a taste of. Some like wine may take a great deal of mulling over. Jamie Cullum is an extremely gifted Jazz piano player. Modern Jazz is one of those genres which on hearing you either decide to give a chance to or not. But if you have listened to JAzz from its onset around 1910-1920 right through to the present day you would probably feel that maybe it has come too far away from its roots. Having said that there have been some truly great jazz musicians gifted at the art of extemporisation and modern Jazz (which seems to have taken off in the late 50's - from a musicians point of view) is seen therefore not just as a development but a form of evolution.

I'd give it another listen if I were you.

Hello Bonsai,

Just a quick reply.

One day sitting at an electronic keyboard in a Jazz / Blues class, I voiced a thought that once a tune had been extemporised beyond recognition, it had been spoilt. It therefore meant nothing and had lost all meaning.

I had unwittingly opened up a can of worms. Don't be a square was the first response, how did Beethoven get away with breaking all the rules, if the music resulting wasn't breathtaking.(the second response.) My next boob was, I do like a lot of classical music - it wasn't so much that Beethoven knew how to break rules it was his way of delienating a theme;- that was breathtaking for his era. Uh Uh another reponse so does that mean we all have to have a similar ability to Beethoven to break rules prior to doing so.

Several months later after passing the piano exam in the style to which I was unaccustomed, it was mentioned to me. That it really is ok to break rules, it really is ok that some of your music will vary from crap to being an absolute genius. But ultimately all music is an acquired taste.

Jamie Cullum has grown on me, but for some he will be an acquired taste.

I think Jamie Cullum is pretty good myself.

His music isn't a genre that I particularly like but he's very good at what he does I think.
