View Full Version : Class of '76
Bonsai 03-10-2005, 05:50 PM At least i think thats what its called. It stars Robert Carlyle (sp) and it starts this evening. I dont know whether its a one off, or a series - but i love 'Robert' so i think im going to enjoy it.
I do love an evening drama
Bella 03-10-2005, 05:53 PM I'll have to tape this as Waking the Dead is on the other side, but it looks quite good. Is the second part on tomorrow?
borneobabe 03-10-2005, 10:52 PM Watched part one of this tonight.... VERY confusing I thought. Are we to believe the image of the 33rd child in the school photo is a ghost photo and that this ghost is the one doing the class in one by one, wreaking revenge on the whole lot of them for something they all did to him in life. Looks like that is where we are heading anyway. As for Robert Carlyle... love him to bits... but someone should give him a good dinner and fast.
maxine 04-10-2005, 09:12 AM It was a real slow starter - trying a bit to hard to be atmospheric I thought. But it did get more intriguing towards the end so I'll be watching again tonight. Although I probably would be even if it was total cack cos I love Robert Carlyle.
I gave up after 45 minutes, it was just too slow for me.
Bonsai 04-10-2005, 12:01 PM It was definately slow, but fairly enjoyable. I will be watching tonights final episode in the hope that all will become clearer.
MariaRob 04-10-2005, 02:10 PM This looked really good from the trailers but I just could not get into it and got bored after the first 15 minutes and watched something else. Shame cos I really like Robert Carlyle - he is a fabulously versatile actor.
Dolores 04-10-2005, 06:12 PM I rarely watch programmes like this ... too long winded and at the end i usually just don't "get it" ... however this one had a bloody good hook in Robert Carlyle so i watched and rather enjoyed. Like you Maxine I'm not too bothered if I don't "get it" cos i just love Robert Carlyle!
What a load of cack!
What a waste of 3 hours
Slow, boring and a rubbish unbelievable plot :bored:

Have to agree with you Bob. I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to believe. Was the ghost of her dead twin doing the murders? Or was she a nutter doing them herself? And if so, who is the boy in the school photo? Kept me awake for oooh....minutes wondering about that one!
Dolores 05-10-2005, 07:06 AM it had a kind of physcho twist at the end I thought and it left me with lots of goosepimples (not an attractive sight!!)
I quite enjoyed it but it reminded me of why I never watch this type of thing ... too much effort trying to understand it for too little reward at the end and far too little entertainment in the middle! Robert Carlyle's charisma was the only thing that kept this going imo.
Bella 05-10-2005, 08:30 AM I really wished I hadn't watched it, I ended letting my imagination run riot and with Mr B away this week every little noise I heard was amplified in stereo!
I sort of sussed out that it was the nursey woman in the first episode but didn't know why she was doing them.
Thought the twist and the ending was pretty poor and it never really explained why her twin managed to get in the picture....or as already been stated are we to believe that he was a ghost? That said I did enjoy the partnership of Robert Carlyse and his sidekick and it would be good to see them again solving a crime but have a more straightforward one instead of a supernatural one!
Tigereye 05-10-2005, 12:03 PM Urk and I looked at each other after watching this and we both said What The Fekk was that all about? Give me my three hours back please.
SO many stock moody shots of Carlisle driving the car, Carlisle with empty beach shot, Carlisle with head in hand shot, Carlisle in woods shot, Carlisle's fekin hands shot... like the director couldn't believe they'd bagged such a good actor and ended up turning a crime drama into a fekkin visual shrine to him........
and enough with the flashbacks already - the little girl emma was shown so often we were convinced she was the producer's daughter...
Nobody asked anyone anything of importance. Aiden's Mum said to carlisle 'No, you've got it all wrong!'. Does he ask her what she means? does he heck. The shifty brother says 'He [his brother] Couldn't have done it!' Does he ask why not? Nah, not bovvered........
Complete wAánkfest..............

Great review.... I agree totally. I kept saying to myself... Why didnt he ask Aidan's mum what she meant by "No you've got it all wrong". I mean... a vital thing to say at a vital moment in the plot... and he just walks out. What was all that nonsense about too when Carlisle became completely spooked the first time he visited the forest !!! We were lead to believe that some huge ghosty spook was about to get him. At the end of it ... I kept saying... what in God's name was wrong with the so called Class of 76 that they got themselves frightened to death over WHAT exactly.....a few crank calls to their mobiles.... so change the phone number.... how would her nibs find out what their new number was anyway !!! And are we expected to believe that Dr Nutter physically overpowered that guy and shoved him out the window, plus the woman in the carpark... did she throw her over the balcony too.... STRONG WOMAN !!! It just didnt ring true for a moment. And will someone explain how that boy's photo appeared on the pictures !!!! We were left totally in limbo about that. Also did anyone else feel the "lifer dying in jail" bit was a bit contrived... and seemed somehow very disjointed from the whole plot in general. Overall, still love Robert Carlisle, but this was utter poo !!

Good point Borneobabe, I forgot all about that! We never found out why Robert Carlisle's character was to blame for the death of that girl. In fact I don't know what that added to the story at all.............
So I take it the DVD (that was advertised at the end last night) won't be flying of the shelf then
