View Full Version : Jilly Goolden Thread
Pandora 21-11-2005, 08:24 AM My money is on Jilly to have the first row.
She really doesnt mince her words and seems to be itching for a fight :boxing:
Anyone else agree though that there doesnt seem to be enough men in the camp this year???
Bonsai 21-11-2005, 08:29 AM Thats because .... as the rumour goes ..... Cannon and Ball will be jetted in at some point.
Im not a fan of Jilly, or Carol. Maybe its the plum in their mouths - but i just find them both intensely irritating.
IsLe Of WeAtHeR 21-11-2005, 02:18 PM As a "wine" critic (and lets face it most of what she says is subjective claptrap) for a niche tv show from a long time ago she is pushing the "celeb" aspect to the max. I am amazed at her arrogance to accept the money to appear.

I agree that she's been out of the public eye but she has done quite a lot more than the Food and Drink show and also writes books. If you google her name it comes up with quite a few things that I didn't know she'd done.
Here's an excerpt about the books she's written:
She has written and contributed to books on wine and food as well as palmistry, which have featured strongly on the Sunday Times best-seller list. Co-written books include five volumes of the Food & Drink, the special, Entertaining with Food & Drink and The Big Food & Wine Drink Book. Jilly also co-authored Your Hand (A Guide to Palmistry).
So I guess she has slightly more credibility as a Celeb than some of those that have appeared on the show.

Well you couldnt get much more "pushing the celeb aspect to the max" than having Nancy Sorrell on the programme; Im not a big fan of Jilly but at least she helped present the Food & Drink programme for some years.

Lol - i was thinking the exact same thing. The only thing Nancy was 'famous' for was marrying a boring, depresive comedian :ninja:
Critique 21-11-2005, 02:35 PM LOL - looks like we 3 are of one mind, Bonnie and Pandora :)
Professional wine taster? Aye right Jilly - admit it, you're a glorified alcoholic!
She seriously needs to lighten up or she will find herself being booted out first.
borneobabe 21-11-2005, 04:55 PM I saw her on another reality type show... cant remember what the jist of it was about at all... but she was proving to be very unpopular on it.... it was an outdoorsy thing too, filmed abroad I think, and from the episode I remember she was in the dog house with a few of them.. I got the impression she was a bit of an opinionated madam.
secrets 21-11-2005, 09:20 PM I can see her going early on to be honest.
Patsy 21-11-2005, 09:23 PM I like her, but I think she might be too forthright for the rest of them. Her and Carol both.
Pandora 21-11-2005, 09:24 PM I like her, but I think she might be too forthright for the rest of them. Her and Carol both.
Im praying they stay in though. Can you imagine two weeks of bland Kimberley, Jenny, Sid, Anthony and Jimmy?
Woodstock 21-11-2005, 11:15 PM .....posh bird, right?
I find her quite adorable......in a librarian meets wine connoisseur sort of way.:book:  :wine:
Critique 22-11-2005, 08:53 AM I think she's very much like Christine Hamilton with the "I'm too posh to be here really but I'm jolly well going to show them I can do it" kind of attitude. Christine was more motherly though and I don't think there's much mothering in Jilly.
Bonsai 22-11-2005, 08:55 AM On GMTV this morning Jilly was number 1 to be voted out first.
maxine 22-11-2005, 02:42 PM I think Jilly likes to be in control and is easily annoyed by anyone who doesn't see things her way. Her voice is very grating. I was surprised she wasn't picked to do the BTT last night.
I would imagine there's probably not much in the voting so anyone is as likely as anyone else. Mind you, what's the point of going if you're not going to do a BTT?

Im certain that she and David Dickinson will hve a row soon. She is very bossy and he doesnt like it.
I hope though, as Ive said before, that she doesnt get voted out. Lets get Antony Costa out or Jenny Frost - theyve done and said buggah all.
Im longing for Jilly to do the bug eating challenge.
I can just imagine her :- "oh a wichiti grub. Mmm slight smell of damp rainforests with just a (chew, munch) ermmm taste of peanutty dung.... (retch  )

Oh yes, David Dickinson admitted he's biting his lip last night. She is annoying though. Always interfering. She should definitely stay.
Aondeag 25-11-2005, 12:27 PM Amint too fond of her anymore.
she never seems to smile much..does she...bit of a moan.
Surely she'd find something to smile about in the jungle...despite all the critters and the ick and the lack of privacy and the snakes and the ticks and the campmates and things.
There must be something...:)
Dolores 28-11-2005, 07:20 AM I certainly noticed Jilly "up her game" last night with the wine tasting, all in order to get camera time I suppose!
She'd commented the other night on how Cannon and Ball were taking centre stage with their "anecdotes" and now she's decided she'd like some of the action.
She is a posh old bird but she's also mucking in aswell and I'm actually warming to her sometimes.
.... and peversly I like it when she gets her knickers in a twist!
i hope she spit roasts David Dickinson before she goes!
Aondeag 28-11-2005, 10:29 AM Gawd..she DOES go on...doesn't she.
She has a voice perfect for the silent television era.........
:-/

Its weird, sometimes I feel sorry for her - such as when David Dickinson is sniping at her for no reason and rolling his eyes behind her back and tutting (NOT shown hardly at all on the highlights, but he does it a lot), then at other times I cant stand her.
I think its the snob in her that does my head in and her ungratefulness.
They are starving hungry at the moment and yet when they win a cream tea comprising of scones, jam and cream. Midway through everyone ooohing and ahhhhing, Jilly says, "the cream is a bit on the rancid side". I think Id have snapped at that point and said, "if its not to your taste, hand yours over, you ungrateful mare"
.
She did the same when they had some red wine. Everyone was happy to have some alcohol and she said, "oh lord, Im NOT drinking that, its crap. Smell it Carol, its vile" Everyone else (including Carol), drank up as they were grateful for what they got.
She did "up her game" as you say though, Dol, and to be honest why not? They all seem to be fighting for centre stage at the moment, with the exception of Carol, Jimmy, Jenny, Sid and Antony.
Sheree is screeching and acting like mad, David never shuts up, Cannon & Ball (until split) were always talking about the good old days (yawn) and so Jilly mustve thought, right its my turn !
I was surprised that Tommy Cannon went before Jilly to be honest.
survivorfan 28-11-2005, 05:05 PM I am trying to like her but without too much success. It's the negative comments about the treats that Pandora mentioned that does it for me - champagne and chocolate don't mix, the chocolate was oo naff for her, horrible cream, undrinkable wine. SOmeone should retire her to a home for unbearable food and wine snobs where she can live in her own bubble and sink quietly into oblivion surrounded by Chateau Cheval Blanc and 90% cocoa solids choc-choc.

No need to try any more SF - she's history thank goodness. The others look like they've lost their mother though. Never mind, they'll soon get themselves organised (or it will be funnier if they don't) :)
maxine 29-11-2005, 08:07 AM I think it's a shame she's gone. I don't particularly like her but at least she's got a bit of oomph and character and the potential to have a good row!
Aondeag 29-11-2005, 09:03 AM Hey..how come if she is so posh and well bred etc..she never bothered to thank the minion who greeted her just before she walked across the bridge to the waiting photographers.
In fact none of them acknowledge the minions..apart from Bob..the medic guy.
I noticed during the BTT's the other day when the chap outside the helicopter handed them the chest, jenny frost never said thanks nur nuthin.
Rude!
:-)
Aondeag 30-11-2005, 10:17 AM I thought her interview last night was very good.I started to like her again.
She got it spot on with her opinions about the others.
She said that antony costa looked at the world through the eyes of a five year old....
but I know five year olds who could dance rings around him.
He seems like such a simpleton............:-/

I enjoyed her interview too. She listens and answers the questions. Unlike David Dickinson who rambles because he loves the sound of his own voice.
