View Full Version : Jimmy Osmond Thread
Pandora 21-11-2005, 08:42 AM Oh my goodness. Im sorry, but I find this guy very very creepy !!!! I think its the fake sincere grin that is permanently plastered across his face. Really - someone should tell him not to smile as much (shudder).
As for the salt and pepper in the teddy bear. Errmmm is he aware that the cameras are on them all the time?? Also is he under the impression that "salting food" means throwing two fistfuls of rock salt on a small container of rice? :shocking:
And if he says Ahhhhhhhhhsummmmmmmmmmm once more, Ill have to go and knock those teeth out.

Yep agree with you Pandora, there is something definitely creepy about him.
He's a grown man but he's got that naughty little schoolboy look about him. I haven't seen or heard anything about him since his "Long haired Lover" days and he certainly is nothing to look at. Still, I won't condemn him for that - just think he is going to irritate the hell out of me. Time will tell.
IsLe Of WeAtHeR 21-11-2005, 09:22 AM aWWWWWSOMe. He seems a nice relaxed chap but what was with the salt. Ok you have some salt now but why add it to the rice like you were gritting the M1?
Well I like the Os Man! I think he is just nervous.....
tigger 21-11-2005, 10:41 AM I like him too. He is just a happy guy. Being English we are not so used to people have smiles constantly on their faces and not being afraid to show enthusiasm. :D
Patsy 21-11-2005, 10:50 AM It's impossible
Ask the Osmonds not to smile
It's just impossible
That's what they do.
Bella 21-11-2005, 11:17 AM I think he seems pleasant enough, he has just been thrown in the jungle with a whole load of weird people he doesn't know. Some of them already know each other, so it easier for them.
I don't think he is creepy, I wouldn't say he was cute & cuddly but creepy is not a word I would use on him............but my views may change!:ninja:
Pandora 21-11-2005, 02:33 PM As I said, its the constant cheesey grin. No-one is that happy all the time are they? There again I feel the same about Tom Cruise - ultra creepy in my book, with that big insincere cheesy grin permanently on his face (shudder).
mazwad 21-11-2005, 03:29 PM I have to say at the moment I agree with you Pandora he has that smiley but insincere look that Americans do so well. Apologies to MS girl and Islandman at this point:)
bridge 21-11-2005, 04:30 PM I can't look at Jimmy without smiling. My sister was a big Osmond fan back in the 70's. and the whole street would come to our back door to listen to her screams when they came on the telly!
I kinda liked him - although I find it hard to forgive him for "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool"!!
Obviously not street-wise - or else he would have been a tad more subtle with the salt!!

Your sister has great taste Bridge
secrets 21-11-2005, 09:12 PM I think he will grow on me - and he can sing a lot better today i have to admit.
He has a good sense of humour that will stand him in good stead for the long haul.
Pandora 21-11-2005, 09:14 PM Well he still gives me the creeps. He even said "tummy" creepily lol. However he has a good sense of humour and his singing voice made Sid and Antonys look crap tonight.
bridge 22-11-2005, 11:11 AM Your sister has great taste Bridge
 back at ya. ILS x
How old is jimmy Osmond now anyway? just wondered.
Aondeag 22-11-2005, 12:18 PM I don't mind him at all.I think what you see is exactly is what you get.
He seems extremely relaxed and unfazed by stuff.
He made some quick puns and things last night too...but they were barely audible because the others were clacking away......loving the sounds of their own voices.
 back at ya. ILS x

I think he is about 42!
xrayspex 23-11-2005, 07:31 AM He is very Creepy.
As for the smile- If you know anything about Morman controlled Salt Lake City here in America you would know what that insane smile is about.
Where did they dig him up from..last we heard of Jimmy was when he was 10 years old.
Marie has been reduced to selling ugly tacky dolls on Home Shopping Network to lonely old ladies living on social security and unemployment in trailor parks and Donny hasnt been heard from since the 1970s.
Jimmy???????? Celebrity??????
Bonsai 23-11-2005, 08:38 AM Jimmy???????? Celebrity??????
But you can say that about most of the 'celebs' in the jungle !!!
Can't take to him at all. He is the weirdest looking guy I've ever seen. I think he'd annoy me being so bloody happy all the time.
MariaRob 23-11-2005, 11:50 AM Liked him at first, but he has gone down in my estimation after that trial yesterday. He was a total wimp and should have done much better. 4 stars means not even a meal between them. They are getting hungry and tempers will fray - horray!
bridge 23-11-2005, 01:46 PM and Donny hasnt been heard from since the 1970s.
No i have to set the record straight here, Donny has been on British tv quite a lot this year and he did a UK tour, he was in Cardiff and loads of other venues.

Once in awhile you will see Marie hawking her cheesy dolls on QVC..but thats about it.

I don't know where you get that info from xray - Donny spent 5 years as Joseph touring your side of the pond in the 90's and every appeared in Lloyd Webbers film version of the show, has hosted the game show Pyramid 2000 -04 in the US, was a voice over in the Disney film Mulan, 3 sell out concert tours years 2003, 2004 & 2055 both here and in the USA, I could go on!
Jimmy along with his brothers and sister where presented with a star on Hollywoods Walk of Fame in 2003 - I doubt that any other of the contestants on this years IAC have. So the title 'Celebrity' applies to him just as much as to any of the other contestants......
Aondeag 23-11-2005, 03:09 PM I'll say one thing about him..he's very polite.
When the two presenters wished him good luck last night..he said 'thank you'.
I have noticed that the others are so into themselves and being the centre of attention that it's all about them!
There is no inter-action at all.....
at least he can hold a conversation with people...answer back and actually listen to what is being said instead of just talking for the sake of talking.
And it just cracked me up the way he was so polite and said that someone was using the camp as a 'restroom'....ha ha....
carole thatcher could learn a bit of finesse from him.
heeheehee...this is a great programme.
where has it been all my life!

To be honest, I think Jimmy (despite him still giving me the odd shudder now and then), is an extremely modest, friendly, polite guy - just as you say Aondeag.
The Mormon upbringing is very strict and the American emphasis on good manners at all times really shows in this guy, in my opinion.
One thing that annoyed me though re his Bush Tucker Trial (and Im not sure if they will show it tonight (highlight below to see if you wish))
Despite David Dickinson saying that it doesnt matter whether or not you bring any meals back, the looks on the rest of the celebs faces when yet again they only had four meals to look forward to, was a picture when poor Jimmy came back to camp. I felt for him, I really did. So much for solidarity and not making people feel bad if they didnt do well :mad2:
floopy 23-11-2005, 06:15 PM Look, Jimmy was my first love, hell I even bought his album, so leave him alone. Right? :ranting:
Critique 23-11-2005, 06:36 PM I was wondering about Jimmy, whether he was married, had kids, etc. so I googled his biography and am quite surprised.
Despite first impression he does seem a nice guy with a lot of enterprises etc. and does good works for kids which puts him up in my estimation.
Here it is if you want to read:

secrets 23-11-2005, 06:45 PM I still like him, i really don't think there is any 'falseness' about him at all.
He must be hard up though?
Maybe he only got a fraction of the royalties?
I think when some of the others go before him - some people will take him more seriously.:)
Patsy 23-11-2005, 08:43 PM So the title 'Celebrity' applies to him just as much as to any of the other contestants......
More so, ils. He's pop royalty, FFS. Love them or hate them, the Osmonds were effin HUGE (little Jimmy included). IMO, he's the only one truly eligible to be called a "Celebrity".
he's the only one truly eligible to be called a "Celebrity".
Yes, your right Patsy!
Pandora 23-11-2005, 09:19 PM Im warming to him slightly. He doesnt seem to have a bad bone in his body and is extremely patient and pleasant.
As far as celebrity is concerned, he is more entitled to be in the camp than someone like Nancy Sorrell last year ffs :mad2:
Loved the way that the Dad of the camp (David Dickinson), was looking after him during the rain storm and Jimmy scampered off to do as he said.
floopy 23-11-2005, 10:09 PM Akshooally, Jimmy wasn't one of the Osmonds, as such, so he wouldn't have qualified for royalties.
The actual Osmonds line-up was Alan, Wayne, Merryl, Jay and Donny. Jimmy and Marie weren't in the group and would only have the proceeds of their own singles sales, so, after Long Haired Lover he was probably pretty skint.
Personally, I always thought he should have released Mother of Mine as a follow-up single, but alas it was never to be....
I should probably shut up now
Pandora 23-11-2005, 10:11 PM Ive just realised who it is that Jimmys voice reminds me of when he speaks. Liberace !!! Slightly nasal and creepy....

I thought it was once rumoured during the 70s that he was up to replace Ozzy in Black Sabbath. :whistling:
He never got the job who did ??
Cerise 23-11-2005, 10:27 PM He is very Creepy.
As for the smile- If you know anything about Morman controlled Salt Lake City here in America you would know what that insane smile is about.
?
Hmmmm that's rather a negative opinion of Salt Lake City, xray.
I like him. I really do. You can sure tell he is the baby of the family though can't you. :D
Critique 23-11-2005, 10:33 PM Ive just realised who it is that Jimmys voice reminds me of when he speaks. Liberace !!! Slightly nasal and creepy....
LOL Pan - I seem to be following you around and agreeing with you but honestly that's exactly what I thought. Especially when he said "Hello Mutherrrrrr" in that strange way.
I must admit though that having been suspicious of his glued on smile, I now think he is just a nice guy who feels a bit lost. I hope I don't have any reason to change my mind.
Tigereye 24-11-2005, 11:08 AM I think he's a sweetie.
He does look a little over-medicated every now and again, but I feel he's a good sort.

Yes i do too, i have never known a more polite man. I hope he does well.:)

Lol Crit !! You stalker :wink_kiss
Im sure he isnt a bad person, and he does seem very pleasant at the moment. Secret's picture of his Jimmy lookalike (Chucky) makes me snigger still - even though Chucky looks like Janice Battersby too !!
Aondeag 24-11-2005, 12:10 PM That is a horrible thing to say ...chucky looking like janice battersby.
Poor Chucky!:wink2:
Woodstock 29-11-2005, 10:41 AM I like this fella. Often quiet and unassuming, but has an unexplainable glow. I think his presence is important to the camp and I hope he goes all the way with C. Thatch.....so to speak. Has an uncanny Bill Bryson-esque presence about him and that's good enough for me.
.....and by Jove! those Kangaroos were terrifying!! They really were! (there's something about kangaroos.....) - so well done Jimbo! (even if your music is crap!)
Cerise 29-11-2005, 10:54 AM He is great isn't he? I just wish they would give him more airtime. I would much rather listen to him than Shreeeeeek. He is definitely in my top three to win and I hope he does win. :D
nemish 29-11-2005, 01:39 PM I really like Jimmy now, he's not pushy or grumpy, and seems to be liked by everyone in the camp.
I'd like him to be the winner, but I think it's unlikely, somehow.
He is such a nice guy but I also like his naughty streak!
Here's hoping he will get some more air time soon!
Aondeag 29-11-2005, 01:54 PM What about the teddy bear malarky...that was sooooooooooooo bizzare. But really sweet.
I was really expecting there to be drugs or something TOTALLY outrageous in there..he looked soooooooooo guilty when the camera showed him in the dead of night:checking out who was asleep or awake.
I was expecting the worst. He dealt with it admirable.
Fair play to him.
(and morning ILS...we missed you all day)
morning ILS...we missed you all day
Awww thanks A, I missed you lot too!
I doubted whatever he was concealling would have been anything really naughty due to his upbringing, but I had really no idea what he did have in there. I loved the way he negotiated with them to keep the Teddy if he gave up the electronic message. Smart guy!!!
bridge 29-11-2005, 02:38 PM Look what i just found!:) bring back memories anyone?:wink2:

Aondeag 29-11-2005, 02:43 PM ER..I have a feeling it will bring back memories in the future...
Thanks for that...I think.
:-/
(still hope he wins tho'.)
I have a lot of time for Jimmy - he seems like a really nice guy who is not afraid to poke fun at himself. I hope the rest of the GBP see him that way and keep him in for a while!
Pandora 29-11-2005, 10:11 PM Im happy to say I was wrong about Jimmy O. I found him creepy at first - I think it was that plastered on smile that made him look false. He now doesnt seem to feel the need to be grinning all the time, has relaxed, settled in, is seriously seriously nice and a pleasure to be around.
The other contestants have a huge regard for his kind of quiet authority and his dry sense of humour is delicious.
I would love it if either Sid or Jimmy won. Both are thoroughly nice blokes, not full of their own self importance, relaxed, not trying too hard, not out to impress.
Pandora 29-11-2005, 11:33 PM His betting is pretty good at the moment too !! :)
Aondeag 30-11-2005, 12:54 PM Thought it was great last nite when Sid joked that the others were wondering where himself and carole were and he bet that jimmy was up in the bush telegraph all concerned, trying to find out.
Then cut to jimmy coming back from the bush telegraph..after having found out.
:-)
Praps Jimmy and Sid could be joint winners....
catswhiskas 30-11-2005, 02:15 PM Both are thoroughly nice blokes, not full of their own self importance, relaxed, not trying too hard, not out to impress.
Im with you on this Pandora - Jimmy and Sid (and not forgetting Carol) seem the most genuine in there. Jimmy was the only one who spoke any sense in giving Kimberley some space to decide whether to leave the camp or not, and even volunteering to carry her to the loo if necessary if she stayed. What a trooper. Have you noticed how Jimmy looks more and more like his brother Donny now he has lost weight from his face.

Oh O.K. maybe ....................................NOT.
Pandora 02-12-2005, 07:27 AM God, that was an energy sapping trial poor Jimmy copped for last night wasnt it?
Im so glad that they gave him the stars, despite him not "walking the lily pads"...
The nice thing about Jimmy Osmond is how at ease he is with himself. Compare his good natured banter after the trial and subsequent interview where he poked fun at himself but was still happy with his effort, to the imagined interview with Antony Costa having had done the same trial. Costa would have been angry, embarrassed, indignant, annoyed, flouncey and badtempered - given the fact that he isnt at ease with himself in the least and self conscious to boot.
He could learn a lot from Jimmy.
Bonsai 02-12-2005, 08:42 AM I thought he did well last night, and took the ribbing from Ant & Dec in the nature to which it was intended. Well done Jimmy :)

I thought Jimmy did well in the trial too. He seems a very likeable, genuine guy. Since losing weight from his face he is looking more like his brother Donny. By the way, has anyone noticed there is hardly any swearing in the series - it makes a refreshing change.

He has lost weight hasnt he?? And goodness me, yes, thats very true, I think Ive only heard one swear word (from Antony) the whole time Ive been watching it...
As you say, what a refreshing change from the likes of John Lydon that swears for shock value.

He did well but I'm still a bit suspicious about his relationship with that Teddy Bear ;)
Andrea 03-12-2005, 12:54 PM I'm sure he's got something else stuffed in that teddy bear.
He mentioned something about it last night, saying in the bush telegraph that he might show us one day.
No wonder he bartered with them last week to give up the voice box and keep the teddy.
Pandora 03-12-2005, 02:37 PM I'm sure he's got something else stuffed in that teddy bear.
.
The mind boggles
Aondeag 05-12-2005, 08:49 AM I can't believe he got evicted.I went off him a bit when he expressed his admiration for Bush and Blair...but I did not think he would be evicted.
I don't give a monkey's who wins now.....it will probably be that vile carole thatcher...but I dont' care.I won't be watching it any more.
even Dec annoys me now....
and it was going sooooooooooo well.
