Oooh, wonder what everyone will make of that? No surprise really though, is there as it was sort of stated beforehand!

I know it was rumoured that they would be turning up. I think it might be ok ... i doubt they will be the 'funny men' in camp as most comedians are very somber.

I am looking forward to seeing how they are when not "acting" so to speak.

Well if they are as "funny" as Vic Reeves, we are going to be disappointed

Im hoping a bit of new blood will perk the camp up. Its too bloody nicey nicey at the moment.

Both Cannon and Ball are from Lancs and apparently, Tommy (the straight man) can be short tempered, so here's hoping he and Jilly dont get on :)

Last year when Vic Reeves went in it was a surprise, this year putting 2 more celebs in is not a surprise as not only have we been expecting it but the celebs have too. They should have thought of something different.

Having said that, as I have said before I quite liked them when they were 'famous' so I am not disappointed it is them that are going in.

- Jungle Braces Itself For Cannon & Ball -

Paddy Power, the official ITV bookie for I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! has revised the betting for the jungle reality show following today’s arrival of comedy veterans Cannon & Ball.

Paddy Power, head of communications for the bookie, explains: “Both Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball have been priced at 10/1 to win the show. However, depending on how long viewers can endure the jungle cries of ‘Rock on Tommy’ their odds could yet go up or down quicker than Bobby’s braces.”

Sid Owen remains the slight favourite at 5/2, just ahead of David Dickinson at 3/1. Kimberley Davies continues to slide quicker than the mud in the camp’s current rainstorm and is now the 33/1 outsider from an opening 9/2.

Who Will Win I’m A Celebrity?

Current Opening Celeb
5/2 4/1 Sid Owen
3/1 10/1 David Dickinson
4/1 20/1 Jimmy Osmond
9/2 3/1 Sheree Murphy
9/1 33/1 Carol Thatcher
10/1 - Tommy Cannon
10/1 - Bobby Ball
14/1 7/1 Antony Costa
16/1 5/1 Jenny Frost
28/1 33/1 Jilly Goolden
33/1 9/2 Kimberley Davies

Jimmy has deservedly gone up the betting, he has a good chance of winning as he is mild mannered and popular with his campmates.

Im surprised Carol is so low in the betting.

As for Cannon and Ball being shot (heh) into the jungle - well, it was the worlds worst kept secret !

This is really going to set the cat amongst the pidgeons (HURRAH!). There is not enough food to go round now, now there are going to be another two mouths to feed. Dont remember much about C&B apart they were't particularly funny - they must both be pretty ancient by now.

Bella

I personally can't stand Cannon & Ball, my mum used to love them when they were onTV yonks ago!

The wee bloke who shouts Rock on Tommy all the time was on Heartbeat on Sunday.

Yes, it will be interesting how the others will take to it with two more mouths to feed!

Rob

I never thought that they were funny - and I don't think they will be any mor amusing in the jungle.

The less food to go round thing should stir things up a bit though - it's all getting a tad boring.

I think they would grate on my nerves pretty quickly. But not in a "good for tv fireworks" kind of way ... just bore the pants off me! :sleepy:

although they do seem like OK blokes I suppose!

my mum and dad saw them live a few years ago at a hotel and said live on stage they were really very good and very funny (although my mum never liked them on tv). Apparently the little one, Bobby has a good singing voice, but my mum didn't realise he was serious and she said when he started singing she burst into fits of laughter cos she thought he was joking! I think he shot her a steely look and carried on manfully! She went scarlett!

I could've done without Bobby (or was is Tommy) removing his shirt though ... let's hope it's not going to be a regular feature!

First opinions are good. They are funny and the camp seems to accept and appreciate them.

I think Bobby in particular is great, although Tommy seems like a nice fella.

They are a breath of fresh air in what was becoming a stagnant pool. Antony Costa in particular, for some unknown reason, looked SO threatened when they came into camp.... he was trying to be devious and began muttering quietly to Sheree, saying the camp "would be different now"... but she walked off... LOL.

i'd never heard of them before..but it's too soon to tell just yet if they will impact much on the camp.
However...I DID notice some people smiling last night...don't know if it was because of these two or not, but for a moment everyone seemed a bit more animated.

Bella
25-11-2005, 12:03 PM
I agree Pan, they were like a breath of fresh air! Despite my feelings about them, as I was never a big fan of the "Rock on Tommy" phrase, I think they will uplift the camp spirts!

MariaRob
25-11-2005, 12:30 PM
Hm, not quite sure about C&B. I was surprised at the good grace with which they were accepted in the camp, usually any outsiders are not welcomed as people have already "bonded". I just dont think they are funny tho (sorry) just a couple of old men showing off.

The thing with commedians is (as we've seen before with Vic Reeves and Joe Pasquale) that people expect them to be funny in real life and mostly they're not funny without a script. I can't remember if I liked them or not when they were at their most popular and on TV a lot. I don't think so. Canon and Ball, Little and Large, same sort of format.

So far they just seem like a pair of grumpy old men. I've read somewhere that some of these double acts can't stand each other in real life too and if that's the case with these 2 it could cause a lot of friction :)

With the lousy coverage this year (no all day screening) we will only see them in "edited" snippets so we probably won't get a feel of how they are really getting on unless they are outrageously funny, irritating or gobby.

Someone explain to us here in the U.S what kind of show were they on. Was it like a variety show or a show of comedy skits?
Did they do physical comedy? Was it "family" oriented or more on the adult side?

Andrea
25-11-2005, 03:13 PM
X-ray, they did a kind of saturday night variety show, very family oriented, I went to see them live with my parents when I was about 10.
But I loved them.
They are basically very mainstream.
And actually watching the live feed at the moment, I've just seen them in there (I missed last nights show with them going in) and they just make me smile.:)

After watching them on tonight's show, I think they are fantastic.
When Bobby was telling the story of how they got the catchphrase of rock on tommy, and when he'd finished the story, everyone's facial expressions just didn't change.

The others in the camp seem to be treating them with a bit of a wide berth.
Bobby being the leader and ordering everyone about, and everyone else saying how they organised things democratically, they all seem to be rolling their eyes at Bobby, but I think it's hilarious.
Could bring some atagonism into the camp, which is what we need, it was all getting to nicey nicey in there.

Re the two bits of your post Ive highlighted Andrea. the other celebs really dont see that he is a wind up merchant do they??? He seems to wind Antony up in particular because the thick dimwit is so gullible.

I agree that the camp has definitely perked up a bit now as they were all so cosy in their surroundings and now the demographics have changed considerably.

A couple of tongue in cheek, wind up merchant "Bobby Ballisms" that had me sniggering are as follows :-

Bobby told a story about his dad, when he was an upholsterer....apparently his dad fell in the machine...but tis ok though, cos he's fully recovered now http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Bobby to Sheree...."don't mean to be rude, but are you the full shilling??"

I've never liked Cannon and Ball. They weren't funny in the 80s and they ain't funny now. Bobby in particular seems like an 'orrible little man. I loved the way Jenny stood up to him when he was bossing everyone around. Still at least they've brought a bit of tension to the jungle. Everyone was getting on far too well!

mazwad
26-11-2005, 07:35 AM
I think that was the idea of bringing them in later let the others get nice and cosy and then bring in two irritating comics to wind them all up just at the point when they are getting tired and hungry. Its nice when the tempers start to fray a little.

I wonder how they will get on in the task as it looks quite physical for two old men and they haven't been exactly energetic so far.

Like a lot of one time celebs of days gone by Bobbie (not noticed it in Tommy) can't seem to live without the spotlight on him. I've no time for people who think all they have to do is talk all the time of their acheivements and how wondeful they are and who they've worked with bla bla bla and the whole world wil be impressed. A lot of 60's/70's variety performers are like this IMO.
I'd want to slap Bobby. Wonder how he's going to take his punishments today after refusing to do the cooking when he was camp leader. I bet he sulks big time

Is anyone else really disappointed in Cannon and Ball? i thought they were going to be such fun especially Bobby, but he is nothing but a lazy sod who needs to get up off his fat ar-se and help do some work in the camp, even his old jokes aren't funny. what a let down!

Rob

Nearly choked on my beer reading that.

I know, I laughed my head off. Sheree, give her credit, did slap his arm and laugh too.

Cannon and Ball are a weird mixture really. Im very very glad they came into camp, for the simple reason that its perked up considerably, as some of the other celebs can barely hide their annoyance, which is what we need because they were FAR too cosy.

Tommy (the tall fella) comes across as grumpy and arrogant sometimes when the mask slips, and therefore could clash with David, Jilly, Jenny or Carol.

Bobby, too, has a huge streak of arrogance in him and he is lazy beyond belief, however Bobby does have a nice line in ****s-take humour and is winding up the likes of one brain cell Antony and Sid daily.

They are FULL of anecdotes which bore the ass off anyone listening, yes, but thank god they are in there, because at last we have a bit of conflict, some disagreement, a bit of arseyness.

The other 9 contestants were beginning to become a bit of a bore-fest.

I think that "tash-licking" is a nervous habit - did you see how much he was doing it during the Fright of the Bumble Bee task? :)

He is an obnoxious little man, full of himself, and obviously of the old school of thought that women are the inferior species and only there to make life comfortable for him. I pity his poor wife - but I expect she's used to it and is probably partly to blame for letting him get away with it ;)

Strange though isnt it that at the moment of greatest stress, when he nearly had a panic attack (and I dont blame him) on that wire, he shouted YVONNNNNNNE....... he later made it into a joke, but that first yell was very heartfelt.

Maybe thats why he feels he has to belittle women so much? He sounds completely and totally reliant on one.

I'm afraid I can't stand Ball. He's the epitome of the thick northern chauvinist pig. As for the duo's jokes, I didn't think they were funny in their heyday and I still don't. However, I didn't mind Cannon. He seemed to get on with everyone, always have a smile on his face and at least made an attempt at the cooking. I think if he'd been in from the start and we'd seen more of him, he wouldn't have been the first to go.

As I've said before, I never liked them in the camp but I did feel sorry for Tommy when he got voted off cos he was obviously gutted and looked near to tears and as he said, it was a long way to come for such a short time. I thought he would be relieved to get out but he obviously wasn't.

Be interesting to see how long Bobby survives without him.

I was gobsmacked he was voted out first. I think if he and Bobby had gone into the camp from Day 1 he would have been a strong contender for the final three. He seemed very level headed and pleasant and we were only just getting to know him. As he said in the interview afterwards he was really enjoying it in there and didn't want to come out. Not like some of the other whingers in there who can't wait to come out. I was expecting Kimberley to go out first as she looks bored senseless most of the time and I don't think I've seen her smile once in the last week.

I could hardly believe it and was disappointed when Tommy was voted out first. There are sooo many other boring people in there - I thought when Cannon and Ball were dropped in they brought a life to this series. And the look on Chips face and his attitude to them was classic.

I too thought Tommy was a genuine guy and was obviously upset to be voted out.

I wasn't really surprised, as he was a late arrival and has been fairly low key with nothing extreme one way or another to mark him out.

As I thought last series, you will get different results voting for who stays in than you would if you were voting for who goes. If voting had been fo who goes, I doubt it would have been him, more likely Goolden or Dickinson I reckon.

Well said Bob! I mean surely they've spent more than a week apart before!

For what it's worth, I don't think Cannon would have been voted had people been voting for who they'd like to leave - I think it's just cos he hadn't done anything spectacular, coupled with the fact that he came into the camp late, that more people didn't vote for him to stay.

Bobby is meant to be the dominant one in their stage act, isn't he, with Tommy as the fall guy guy? Strange then how it's Bobby who is the weak one in real life.

Back in the 1960s I used to read a comic called Weird Tales, and there was a story about a ventriloquist and his dummy. THey became famous, but then people started noticing how the ventriloquist only seemed to be able to speak if the dummy was with him. One day a rival ventriloquist stole the dummy (as they do) and the ventriloquist was struck dumb from that day on. Eventually the dummy came back, and the story ended with the dummy speaking through the ventroliquist. The dummy was controlling the ventriloquist.

Bobby Ball looked every bit the Little Boy Lost upon Tommy's departure from the camp (his expression said it all, poor blighter)

I think those that voted out Cannon obviously wanted to find out if the little fella could hack it by himself (how ever do they cope with that canopy over their heads??). I personally would have preferred to see him stay at the expense of one of the statues (perhaps Costa, possibly Goolden, maybe even Kimberley Davies (where on earth does she go??), the latter whom I would like to see diving for the Aussies at the Beijing Olympics....
