Starts on Wednesday. A new reality TV show with a twist.
It's a hoax. The unsuspecting space cadets really think they are goin into space and have been training for months. They think they left the UK for training in Kazakhstan but instead they flew in a big circle and ended up back in the UK (Surrey) and have been training there ever since. They will not ever go into spce they think they will be but it's one of them flight simulator thingies. They think they are going to space live in front of the nation. They don't know theyare being set up and the only ones not in on the big joke is them. Real life Trueman show!
The press have been building this up for weeks now, seming to think its going to be hugely popular entertainment
How bloody cruel is that!

Really don't like the idea of this show. It's building people up thinking they are going to do theur dream, and then revealing they haven't done what they want! It's so mean!

I'll be watching though :w00t:

I will be watching too although I may have to tape it as I don't think MR M would enjoy it. So its kind of unreality reality TV then.

I've seen it advertised a few times and have to say it doesn't really appeal, but the guy in the adverts is gorgeous so I may have to tune in to get another look.

Who, Johnny Vaughn?? :shocking:

I probably will tune into this but I can see it being a total flop to be honest.

No, not Johnny Vaughan, PJ, a hairy bloke with lovely eyes. Mind you, I do have a soft spot for JV too!

I think this might be a major flop as it hasnt been advertised enough - but i will tune in as the unsuspecting astronauts are being held in an unused RAF base .... which is around the corner from my house

No, no, no. This one hasn't got a helmet. I can see I'm going to have to find out his name.

I quite like the idea of the show ...... but I'm not over keen on Johnny Vaughan - I'll give it a try tonight and see what it's like.

Hmm I thought that. Not keen on JV at all. I think its really cruel actually. If it all goes to plan and they really DO think theyve been to space, things could get nasty when they realise they never left Earth !!

As it clashes with the "I'm A Celeb" show, I'm recording it (and "Lost" of course!)
Will watrch it tomorrow, hopefully.

I forgot all about it - was it any good?

Mr. C said this morning that he'd seen something about one of them spotting a UK tax disc on a car but I wasn't listening properly, being engrossed in putting hats on avatars at the time :)

That sounds like a great show, no doubt we will probably get it over here at some point next year. It must be a pretty good flight simulator if they actually think it's leaving earth!

I enjoyed this last night. I think they are going to a lot of trouble to get the 'set' just right, so i hope it works out for them.

I liked the fact that Johnny said they had 10 hours of backup TV just incase they get rumbled

I think i might enjoy it.

Edited to say - did anyone else want to slap the girl who was doing the fake vomit actions when they were jumping into the river !!!

I have managed to catch up the first two episodes. Pretty good so far. The producers have been very clever in the way they selected the contestants (gullible springs to mind) They have spent lots of time and money setting this up including planting three actors in with the so called space cadets to keep the wide up going, should it start flagging

Or JV winding us up making us think that people could be so gullible?????

If the contestants are as truly gullible as they appear (and they DO appear gullible), then I hope Im not over-reacting but some gullible people are also emotionally vulnerable. The alarm bells are ringing here with me on this one....... its only my opinion, but I think it might end in tears.

Minsky the monkey! I nearly wet myself
I love Charlie the actor- his reactions crack me up and he's obviously a smart chap

It was funny this evening. Cheryl's reaction to the pioneers of space lecture was great. She got really upset thinking about the little dog baking in his space capsule.

As you say Bob, Charlie was finding it difficult keeping it together. I'm expecting him to burst out laughing at any moment. Loved his "Christmas in Space" poem.

:w00t: Nooooooooooooo Haydon! Didn't you hear JV say that everything we hear about the dog is true and everything about the monkey is false.
RIP little space dog

Yeah I know the dog bit was true - but she got sooo upset. Particularly liked the bit where she had to leave the room and you heard her blow her nose like a fog horn, as she tried to compose herself. lol

The Christmas in Space poem was superb !!!!!! :w00t:

And Paul (the one who drew the penis on one of the other cadet's revision work), ought to be sent up in the real space shuttle and have the airlock opened on him.

What a complete asswipe the man is.....

I've been watching and wondering......

If you were part of this program and you twigged what was going on, would you:

a) Tell the show via the diary room?

b) Tell everyone your thoughts?

c) Stay quiet and play along as if you didn't know because you feared being evicted from the show?

d) Drop lots of very subtle hints that you knew and see if anyone picked up on it?

e) Start asking all sorts of awkward questions of the instructors?

f) Other......

I have to say that even if I hadn't twigged before the minute I saw the helicopter that took them the final leg of the journey I would have smelled a huge rat....it had a British callsign blazooned across it and it bore the colours of a british helicopter company...however that said I would have played along because I would want to see what else was going to happen! :naughty:

Bob

Coastie I'd probably do option e) and try beat them!

But as for the British helicopter and other things British showing up, I don't see why the contestants would be bothered. It's a British TV show, a C4 producer was hovering in the next room to take Steve out when he got ill. They probably have a lot more interaction with the producers (probably via the diary room)
I missd it last night- I forgot it was on, so can anyone fill me in if anything exciting happened. it is the live launch tonight and I want to know if they have picked the "lucky" three yet.
I can't stand Paul, and part of me wants him to be one of the chosen ones but only cos he's going to go mental when he finds out it's a hoax but on the other hand I can't stand him thinking he's so special. I think all the girls would take it pretty well though.

I have to say that im getting very bored with this now. I have been watching Secret Smile over the last 2 days, and recording Space Cadets. Last nights show i fast forwarded most of it, and 3/4 of the way through i turned it off.

How on earth can they keep us interested for another few days ?

I actually watched a whole program last night which, apparently, judging by the posts on the C4 website, was just a re-run of the Monday night show with one or two extra bits.

I just found it soooo funny. They surely don't believe they're in space :shocking: The actual "lift off" looked pathetic but then I suppose that as they think they are in a space shuttle, as opposed to being blasted off from ground level, that would explain why they accepted the smooth transition from air to space.

Apparently, their families knew that it was going to be a hoax because they had to say whether they would be able to take the joke on them. I can't believe that the families didn't let the cat out of the bag! I think they all know it's a hoax but they are going along with it for their few minutes of fame on TV!! It's the only plausible explanation as far as I'm concerned.

It's very boring viewing. I'm not sure but I think they are going to push the cadets to the limit of credibility until they catch on. They've had them making balloon animals as part of an experiment :( They've also told them they will have to drink re-cycled urine when the water supply runs out.

I've not seem a lot of it, too boring. Maybe when they get a knock at the door with a Pizza Delivery they will realise (if they don't know already) that they're not going to be heroes when they get back to earth, just have a lot of people laughing at them. Sad really isn't it.

I'd just scream "THIS IS F**KING FAKE" and tear down the backdrop (if that's how it is...). Or, I'd run around and start pressing all the buttons and stuff and make everyone sh*t themselves :cool2:

I caught this for the first time last night, desperate to get involved as I love my reality shows and was a bit perturbed to hear that Charlie had passed a worm and then the rest of them drew pictures of said worm then one even wrote poem about the passing of a worm.

Bizarre as it was, it just wasn't funny.

Have I come in to late?
