but just prior to that he worked on BBC and I don't think they've replaced his Saturday night chatshow with anything yet.

I'm not a fan of chat shows at the best of times and only watch them if they have a decent guest on. Note: I wont be watching Parky on Saturday as he's got Robbie Williams on!!!!

Ahh, I get it! I am not that big a fan of Parky's to be honest - yes, he gets the big names but I don't think he is that great an interviewer......just my humble opinion, of course! :bag:

As for Robbie, I think I will give that a miss too Dol. He comes across as such a pratt when he gets interviewed, and I can't stand his accent! He put me off The Magic Roundabout for life! He is definitely a showman and he should just stick to his live acts.................that said though, I wonder if Parky will ask him why he didn't attend the Take That get-together. I hope he does and I just wonder what kind of smug remark he will come out with! No doubt we'll hear all about it on GMTV on Monday!

Its a good job theres a link up between Parky and GMTV, this lets you catch upon anything missed.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like Davina McCall and she has had some excellent programmes, replacing Cilla for dating programme was one, she is apt for big brother too. All these programmes need added hype to keep the viewer transfixed.

But a chat show is meant to be laid back and relaxing to watch and for me there is no one quite like Parky for this approach. In addition to this everyone he has ever interviewed will tell you they do not feel intimidated, pressurised or embarrassed at all. I suppose if Parky ever decides to retire he will be a miss.

The only other person I could imagine replacing him with is Chris Tarrant, who from his early days in childrens television to quiz shows has developed a very interesting cheerful manner, that is mature and responsible.

I think Davina's probably a really nice person in RL, but I think she's too pushy and loud to be a good interviewer. A bit like Jonathon Ross. It would be too much about her. Parky's strong point is that he just pushes the guests' buttons and sits back and watches them go.

Not sure how Davina has got a primetime BBC chat show job, her interviews on Big Brother are regularly appalling.... :bored:

Cant stand Davina McCall and wont be tuning in to any show where she is chat show host. Just about bear her on BB. I personally dont like Parky, I think he is outdated and sucks up horribly to his guests. Give me that irreverant but very witty Jonathan Ross any time. Parky should be put out to pasture.

One of the reasons why Parky is not being allowed to retire is due to his expert and relaxed way of dealing with interviewing celebrities with some very personal issues they have. He is the only chat show host who relaxes with his guests, Johnathan Ross I give you is witty, but nowhere near as relaxing as Parky.

Brashness loudness and extreme cynicism do not make for the most interesting or best of interviews, instead the interview becomes a mockery. A charade a comedy of errors. If your job interview was like this you'd be taken in and with a lack of earnestness on behalf of the company, you would be right to assume that you'd failed to get the job.

In addition to this Parky still draws the highest viewers ratings and the BBC were foolish to lose him. The BBC has always been noted for quality and someone like Parky gave them that with high viewers figures.Tyne tees over the years have gradually started towards quality TV, as opposed to TV for the masses. If this trend continues there viewing figures will rise, encouraging more sponsers and advertisers. Which Tyne Tees informed me sometime ago is what there new priorities were.

I'm not a fan of Divina Mc Call but think she is the right person for the kind of 'mad stuff' she usually does...I thought she presented that show where people do challenges of a life time well and she presents award shows pretty well to......however, as a chat show host..no way she is just far to buzzy! :blink:

Personally I can't stand Parky, and can't stand watching him.
I think he's creepy and always seems to be going through the motions when interviewing, as though he really can't be bothered.
As for Davina, I think she'll be ok, but I guess they are aiming at a younger market with a show hosted by her.
And I can't see her delving into difficult questions, I think it would be very light hearted.

The only problem I have with Jonathan Ross's chatshow is that he doesnt allow his guests to chat half the time ! I feel he is constantly at pains to remind the audience and us at home as to who's show it is and who is funnier.

I remember seeing Matt Lucas and David Walliams on JR's show and they were stunned into virtual silence by JR's constant eagerness to out-do them with funny oneliners. On the Parky show they were both an absolute revelation and a real laugh, mainly because they were allowed to speak.

Hopefully Davina will take heed and employ a little of both interviewer's talents to her own style, though I wont hold me breath....:wink2:
