View Full Version : Comedian Richard Pryor Dies...
Pandora 10-12-2005, 09:28 PM U.S. comedian Richard Pryor died on Saturday at age 65 after a long illness, his wife said in a telephone interview with CNN.
"He was my treasure," Jennifer Pryor said. "His comedy is unparalleled. They say that you are not a comic unless you imitate Richard Pryor. ... He was able to turn his pain into comedy."
Pryor's wife said he suffered a heart attack on Saturday morning and died at a hospital in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino. Pryor had also been suffering from multiple sclerosis for almost 20 years.
While he appeared in many successful movies, it was Pryor's stand-up comedy act, in which nothing was off limits, that made him a controversial star. Racism was a major component of his routine and he even joked about a 1980 incident in which he set himself on fire while free-basing cocaine. "He was an extraordinary man, as you know," his wife told CNN. "He enjoyed life right up until the end. He did not suffer, he went quickly, at the end there was a smile on his face ... he's a very, very, very amazing man and he opened doors to so many people."
That's a shame. he was a very funny guy. RIP.

Hello Pandora,
Another great comedian, great actor. A great entertainer, and an emotional and controversial human being. Whose level of thinking far exceeds some of his contemporaries. Richard Prior will be missed by many and is a great loss to his industry.

Patsy 11-12-2005, 08:18 PM Loved him, loved him, loved him. Especially his stand-up routines. My favourite was the one with his pet monkey. Or the difference between black and white people and how they react when they see a snake. Or the one about how your Mum tells you off and hits you once with every word. Classic and much copied (particularly by Eddie Murphy and I've never liked him because of it).
God bless him. :angel_not

LOL, I remember him doing that sketch! And it was true wasn't it?
He was a legend and an incredibly funny guy who is now at peace.
Woodstock 09-01-2006, 10:23 AM A little late with this one but wanted to submit my own addition to the "obituary".
He seemed to suffer from his illness throughout a large proportion of his acting career. I remember him from films such as "Brewster's Millions" and particularly "See No Evil, Hear No Evil", in which the latter, i thought he was outrageously funny alongside.......can't even remember who it was he was alongside now.....but Pryor was brilliant in that.
I know he was also a renowned "stand-up" but have never seen any of his stand-up work. As with the sudden loss of John Candy some years back, the arena of comedy-acting is an emptier place without great comics like these.

It was Gene Wilder, same as Stir Crazy, which was actually a much funnier film, imo.

That's right. And Wilder's only my favourite comedy-actor!!
Yeah, Stir Crazy is also a really funny movie. They had a great chemistry.
"I've got mensrea.........oh God!, I've got mensrea!!":shocking:
