I must have had at least 20 at my door in the last two weeks!! i have now taken to hiding behind the couch when i hear them coming.

it's mostly kids, i am sure the little blighters are telling other kids ' hey go to that house she gave us 50 pence'!:xmas hat:  hee, i am going to start laying traps soon. i am sure it was one of them that nicked my Christmas bulbs.

We've only had two lots this year so far, and I'm sure the second lot were the first lot standing in a different order - either that or they don't teach music round these parts:huh: .

I gave them 2 quid, both times. Still, Gigi liked them :pimp:

LOL - get one of those indelible marker stamps they use in clubs and stamp the next lot in the middle of their foreheads so you'll know if its the same lot :naughty:

We haven't had any so far thank goodness. Once I've got downstairs to answer the door I can't go all the way back up again to get my purse so they've probably remembered that I'm not a good bet :)

In my experience, a resounding "NO" lol. As soon as you open the door they stop singing, probably because they only know the first line anyway :)

Neither have I - and judging by this thread it seems that I haven't missed out:D

mr i and jade said some turned up tonight, and the bad buggers made them sing 5 carols to their faces before handing any cash over, although i have to admit this is something they learnt from me, me and my sis's used to do it when we still lived at home :naughty:

This is obviously something that didn't make it big in the Colonies...they MAY have it in bigger cities but around here, if you show up after dark and haven't called to say you're coming, you're liable to be dodging bullets. I lived TOO close to New Orleans for TOO long to be fooling with folks. I know that sounds horrible....but just remember it if you come to visit!!!:w00t:

They don't call to the door round these parts either. You'll find them in shopping malls etc, but not outside houses.

Yes..they just stand in the street and waggle their collecting cans at ya.
I'd much prefer that than to open the door to be greeted by a chorus of 'God rest ye gerry mentlemen'...etc.
Mind you..I can't complain as I used to do it myself.
:D
Yip..that was ME and my evil cohorts....blocking the top of Grafton Street in our little red hats, full of festive cheer.
No wonder it takes over 20 minuted to walk down Grafton street at Christmas time!

I love them coming around singing really! the trouble is how can you say no to them, their only kids:nerd: they try to sing some songs but mostly end up laughing and sniggering, it's quite cute.

I had three little boys at my door a few days ago did'nt look no more than 8, it was 10 o, clock at night and there they were in the pouring rain shivering, soaked to the skin, singing. it was lovely but where is their mum?, i told them to go home and get warm.

Oh I did that a few years ago - and then gave them mince pies

I seem to be off the list now :wink2:

Hello fee,

I'm a real night owl tonight, just woke up, feeling wide awake. Just thought I'd dither a bit before going back to bed.

Were they any good the carol singers who came to your door?

I do like it when carol singers come to mine but unfortunately they tend to be completely unorganised and pretty awful. But I'm generous with them in the same way - I am on halloween night and guy fawkes. So yes your right again they know a soft touch and I'm definitely on there list. As a child my parents would never let me go out to do this, unless it was an organised group collecting for a charity from school or a local church or youth group.

Nowadays, because I'm aware that this was missing in my childhood, I can't get enough of carol singing or christmas songs, and love organising harmonious children, teenagers and adults into having an angelic sound. For the purposes of carol singing in supermarkets, hospitals, hospices, old folks homes and christmas concerts at civic venues. When all our rehearsals are done we are actually good.

Its a pity that some areas miss out.

After my post above, we got blummin carol singers ... grrrrrr.

They were very very good, but i was sat in the lounge eating my dinner when they knocked on the door. I didnt have any change, so i had to raid Mr.B's pockets. I just opened the door, shoved the money in the tin and closed the door again and went back to my toad in the hole. They looked quite shocked that i had no interest in hearing them sing !!!!!
