View Full Version : New Year's Eve
floopy 22-12-2005, 04:27 PM So? Wotcha all doing for New Year's Eve?
Cockney's working, and with the two small people to contend with I expect I'll be sat indoors on my own watching telly :tv_happy:.
Let me live vicariously through your lives.
I usually go an "first-foot" my Gran at the bells (have done it for years now and she'd be heartbroken if I broke the tradition) so I'll probably be doing that then the rest of the family will come over for a drink. Then I will probably head to a local nightclub to catch up with a few friends etc.
Then on New Year's night my parents usually have a big party in their house for the whole family but my sister is hosting it in her new house this year.
So that's that!
I like spending my New Year with my family - cannae be ar$ed going into Glasgow or Edinburgh etc.
We are off to a party at the local community centre. My friends sister used to be the caretaker and books it every year. We take our own booze and nibbles, oh and the kids aswell.. get horribly drunk and then crawl home...:w00t:

Really? And what age are they exactly?? :shocking:

bridge 22-12-2005, 05:01 PM well if i can get a baby-sitter to look after my two, i will hopefully be down the pub with friends and family or we were thinking of going for a chinese meal. not sure yet.
tigger 22-12-2005, 05:49 PM We have got some of our closest friends coming round for the evening. There will be plenty of food, Schloer and fireworks for us. I'm really looking forward to it, it's a comfy group of people. :D

We are doing the same Tigger, only we are not the ones hosting - we done it last year! And where they live, they have a fantastic view of the Castle so we will see the fireworks going off.
It'll be a bit like a Pot Supper with everyone taking a dish along, the kids all get along great and love being able to stay up late!
We can watch the crowds gather on Princes Street on the TV and be glad that we are nice & cosy inside!
We are off to a family friends Party! :xmastree:
Dolores 23-12-2005, 08:14 AM Nothing!
I dislike New Year's Eve. I don't like drunks getting maudlin and saying "last year was awful here's to a better one this year"!! what tosh!
I don't like paying to get in a pub to pay for overpriced beer and be surrounded by a load of people who I don't really know. I don't like getting home late and having to walk for miles and miles cos you can't get a taxi!
I sound like a right misery don't I! I also think that the older you get the less you care about new year's eve .... now I'm waiting for some elder statesman of the board to prove me wrong!
I do wish each and everyone of you a Happy New Year though!
JakeyBoy 23-12-2005, 08:17 AM To tell you the truth I don't know! I just don't want it over at my place because I hate people coming over.
mazwad 23-12-2005, 09:59 AM I feel a bit the same as you Dol, used to enjoy it when I was younger but can't be bothered much now. We shall go to my sons and spend the evening with the grandchildren playing games as we have done the last few years. My son has to work until one in the morning as he is a guard on the railways. He is not looking forward to all the drunks coming on the trains.
The high point for me is that my grandaughter is coming down from London with her dad to spend New Year with us. I don't see her very often and I enjoy her company, she is 12 now and growing up so fast.
Critique 23-12-2005, 12:13 PM I'm afraid I've got to that age now when people say, "come round for New Year's Eve" and I find myself about to say "Oh lovely, thankyou" I stop myself and just say "thanks but I'll be spending it indoors".
I just know that when it comes time to put on the glad rags and slap and dig myself out into the cold I will wish I had declined. Call it old age, being a misery or whatever but I'd just as soon spend it in the warmth and comfort of my own home in front of the TV or computer
I hate all that kissy, kissy stuff and "auld lang syne" always makes me tearful. I do sound an old misery don't I?
Patsy 23-12-2005, 12:44 PM We usually stay in and I wait until midnight and call my Mum. Mr P hates NYE, so it's kind of radiated to me, too. It's always a bit of a non-event.
However, this year I have successfully organised for some friends to have a do at their house (ours is too small, luckily :sly: ) . I have insisted that they don't go to too much trouble, just a few people (most of whom I know and like). So I'm really looking forward to NYE this year. Only trouble is, I have to be sober enough to call my mother at midnight!
The best thing is, the kids are all the same ages and they are used to similar evenings, usually arranged for no good reason. AND they have enough beds for us all to crash out as and when we feel the need.
Yes, NYE will be a good one this year.
