I have yet to see Peter Jackson's version (I'm dragging my wussy mate to see it some time next week) but I have refreshed my memories of the original 1933 classic and the much-maligned 1976 remake.
Anyone seen all three and care to air your views? Is the original still the best? Does the 70's Kong deserve all the bad press?
And other topics I can't think of right now.. :D

I've only seen the very first one and I laughed throughout the movie at all the effects. Infact, I don't think I watched it all. But everyone knows the story so yeah

no it most certainly does NOT!!!!
My cousin's husband was in that film! He was the fifth one down on the credits and he was a crew member of the boat as far as i can remember. His name is Ed Lauter. We thought that this was gonna be the movie that propelled him into super stardom! lol! (well at least that's what our Aunty Irene led us to believe!)
He was last seen in a series of episodes of ER as the Fire Chief ... so I guess it didn't propell him into the same stratosphere as Jeff Bridges or Jessica Lange!

My husband and son went to see the new one and said it was brilliant about 3 hours long I think. I don't remember the 70's one although I can remember the first one so I guess the 70's one can't have made much of an impression on me.

I've just looked him up on the IMDB - do you realise how popular he is?? People are calling him an "acting legend" over there!

lol! I couldn't get into any reviews cos you have to be a member.
I didn't realise he was in so many things! After he divorced my cousin we stopped tracking his career so avidly.
I met him once and he was a very nice guy and not at all "Hollywood". My aunty used to have us in creases talking about him and his pals, Chas (Charlton Heston) and Charlie (Charles Bronson) to name-drop but two!
He's mainly a character actor not lead man material.
Thanks for that site reference PJ ... I shall be passing it on to the rest of the family!

My kids watched this one on the telly the other day and really enjoyed it. I took them to see the current version yesterday and they loved it. They sat transfixed throughout the whole 190 minutes. It could easily be cut down by at least half an hour, but the effects are amazing.

Saw the up to date version of this movie a few dyas ago....I agree with other people's comments that the beginning of the movie was a little dragged out... could easily have been cut by about thirty minutes... but thats a very small criticism in an otherwise fantastic remake of the story. It was absolutely marvellous !!! The special effects with the island monsters were first class and I for one was scared to death of the island locals !!!! Naomi Watts marvellous as female lead... and could not see the last five minutes of the movie for the sobbing !!!!! cried my eyes out. I mean... we all know Kong is going to bite the dust... but its just SOOOOOOOOOO sad !!!
