View Full Version : Football season 2004/05
Just continuing the thread from the old board, tell us your team's progress!
Preston slipped 5 places against 2nd place Ipswich in a 3-0 loss at the weekend :( though they are still the highest team out of my friends (one place above Leicester)
One of my friends was saying how they hoped Sheff ed would be away to Swindon as they live close to Swindon (I assume) and don't you know it, that is an FA cup first round match...
Another friend who supports Bristol City got Brentford, who are higher than them in the league, so it's not looking good for Sheff Wed or City, but they both NEED to get through so they can play Preston (at which point they WILL go out!)
Leeds lost (yay!) they'd have gone above Preston... (And they've stolen one of our strikers!!)
Andrea 01-11-2004, 11:28 AM well done Flyo for starting the thread up again :)
I was really pleased at the weekend that Portsmouth beat Man united :p
Tonight is the big night for Norwich, playing Man city and I get to watch it on sky as well
I was so peed off at Arsenal the way they scabbed a draw... I'd much rather Chelsea won than Arsenal... but everyone elses opinion seems to be different...
I'd much rather Chelsea won than Arsenal... but everyone elses opinion seems to be different...
Not here Fly, my eldest son supports Chelsea so we would prefer they won as well http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/character27.gif
I was really pleased at the weekend that Portsmouth beat Man united :p
I was too Andrea :D although my youngest was less than impressed :D
Brighton lost to Sunderland but we are still in 15th place so doing ok - we just need to keep up the good work
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/character27.gif
Andrea 01-11-2004, 09:04 PM still no win:(
But at least we got a point at Man City tonight 1-1.
Amd we play Blackburn next who are now underneath us at the bottom of the table. Now that one is a must win game.
Fingers crossed for you and your boys Andrea http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/sign39.gif
- the win will come soon I am sure of it http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/biggrin.gif
Brighton are away to Derby tomorrow so I would be happy with a point -3 would be nice though! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/character27.gif
Coastie 02-11-2004, 05:27 AM Er hummmm....
POMPEY 2 - Merchandise Utd 0
Wahooo go Pompey! :drinking: :holiday:
It was a great win Coastie - well done to your boys :D :holiday:
I was watching Man City vs. Norwich yesterday (in Manchester) I was about the only person up for Norwich... a point's not bad.. could be better...
You'll win your next though, trust me, I'm not a doctor...
Preston got Coventry tomorrow, which I think should be Preston's first away victory of the season, I think a comfortable 1-0... a 2-0 for Coventry, though, would put them above Preston, and they've just beaten Reading so they should be feared... can't be arsed losing any more games, we have Wigan soon, which is as good as a loss...
Preston's home form is so different from their away form...
If the league was just based on home results we'd be 4th, if it was just away results we'd be 24th... quite a difference...!
Preston drew again last night... :( we should really expect more against Coventry... though it is our 3rd point away from home this season...
chicken_boy 04-11-2004, 11:15 AM I am still ****ed off that West Ham lost 4-1 to Cardiff. Joel McAnuff does ****** all for us, then he goes and scores agaisnt us, ****!.
Andrea 08-11-2004, 01:45 PM well, how on earth Norwich didn't win on Saturday I'll never know.
They were 1-0 up, Blackburn got a man sent off, and still they let one in and end up with just one point:blink:
what on earth were they doing. I really felt that this was a must win match, and now that they didn't I really think they are going to have a tough time staying up. Watch us go down and Ipswich go up:ranting:
At least the teams in the bottom half are very similar in points. There is still a chance.
Don't give up hope yet Andrea, there is still a long way to go! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/smilie_scarf.gif
Well if Brighton don't buck their ideas up they will be going straight back down again! We are now only one place above the relegation zone after being mid table a few weeks ago. I knew it would be hard but I had hoped they could have just held the mid table position for a little longer..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/character27.gif
Even though they lost a couple of games recently Aberdeen are still fourth in the SPL
Long may it continue!
I don't think we will be getting any points tomorrow as we are away to West Ham
Well I am glad to see I was wrong! 3 very much needed points to my boys http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/ilovesurvivor/smilies/character27.gif
WOW  we're back up to third :D
Andrea 14-11-2004, 12:05 AM Well, what can I say, we got thrashed:sad:
Preston drew against Millwall, Millwall got their equaliser in the 87th minutes... bloody irritating beeps!! we're now 16th, which is so undeserved... we've not had one win in our last 5... we should have got 6 point from Leeds and Millwall, instead we got 1... There's hope, but not much... :(
Preston v Cardiff on Friday, it's televised, so watch it!! Cardiff are at home, so maybe another defeat... :'( but I'm hoping for our first away victory!
Woo! First away victory since January!!
Cardiff created more chances but didn't use them... Preston defended very well but didn't go forward much...
We now lie 14th... which is a bit annoying since we really should be looking for promotion...
Andrea 20-11-2004, 11:28 PM Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, we did it.
Norwich finally get their first win of the season in the premiership. 3 valuable points in the bag. We are now lying 18th in the table, not brilliant but the bottom 6 clubs are separated by only 3 points.
Come on the canaries, you can do it:)
Good result Andrea! and well done to your team Fly! :holiday:
Brighton are just pants at the moment! :ranting:
Yeah, Brigton seem to be losing a lot recently, which I don't like...
I think they'll stay up though... Rotherham ar almost guaranteed to go down, Nottingham Forest, despite beating Reading and quite stuck in the relugation zone and Gilliangham can't even beat Crewe and they've sold Agyemang so they're going down too...
Brighton will stay up and prosper next year....
We lost away to the top of the league by one goal, so I guess that is not a bad result... 20th is not a good position to be in the league. I just hope we can stay up this time.
Andrea 27-11-2004, 11:57 PM Well we drew today at Birmingham. A point is better than nothing I guess.
I don't really know much about the game cause I've been out all day so missed all the coverage.
But hey, one point is better than a kick in the teeth:)
Preston are back in the top half (11th) and the two teams above are on the same points (Millwall and Derby, who we beat 3-0 at the weekend). We do have about 4 teams one point behind though, and we've got Wigan away next :(
Wow... everyone but Preston and Wigan played today, yet preston managed to only move one place down! After we beat Wigan tomorrow we'll be comfortably 8th 4 points of the top 6... trouble is... Wigan are good... and Preston don't have a great away record this season...
Brighton got a nice victory today, even if it was only Rotherham it's still 3 points!
Brighton got a nice victory today, even if it was only Rotherham it's still 3 points!
They did Fly - and boy did we need the 3 points :)
So Wigan JUST beat us... okay, they thrashed us 5-0... :( no good! We're below Crewe now :o! We can pull it back though, despite having a very tough month... Burnley (Away), West Ham (5th), Stoke (Away), Reading (4th), Sunderland (3rd) if we get 3 points from that lot I'll be surprised... if we get 15, we're going for promotion!
Brighton play Stoke tonight but I am not holding out much hope of a win as they are 11 places above us in the table. And I have just heard the news that our Captain Danny Culip has just transfered to Sheffield United......
Despite Stoke being quite high up they rarely score, they've only got 17 goals this season, they're a bit of a 1-0 side... (kind of like Brighton, I think)... I think it could go either way, whoever scores first will win.
Preston have West Ham next in our incredibly difficult month (Wigan, West Ham, Reading, Stoke, Sunderland) but at home we CAN beat any team, we've only lost to Sunderland and Leeds at home this season and we've had a few of good victories too! We just can't lose any more points at the moment, play offs should be our aim but we're just slipping too far now.
Andrea 17-12-2004, 01:30 PM Well we won last week against Bolton, that makes 2 wins in the premiership now, they are getting the hang of it:wink2:
Although Saturday we play Chelsea:blink: I wonder what the score line will be there.
Coastie 18-12-2004, 08:27 PM couldn't help but chuckle...since Harry has left Pompey they haven't lost a match and his first match with Southampton they lose 5-1! T-he!
Woo, Preston beat West Ham 2-1, that was quite important... if we can just get our second away victory against stoke now we may have more confidence when taking on the likes of Reading and Sunderland.
Coastie 19-12-2004, 07:16 PM Hmmm Pompey lost 1-0 today against the Arsenal...bummer!
Liverpool won 3-1 against Newcastle though so it wasn't all bad!
Andrea 19-12-2004, 10:17 PM Hmmm Pompey lost 1-0 today against the Arsenal...bummer!
I watched some of the highlights on the news today of that match and Pompey were very unlucky not to have scored at least twice.
We lost again, but what can you expect playing away at Chelsea.
At least we are not in the bottom three.......at the moment.
tigger 20-12-2004, 06:52 AM Woo, Preston beat West Ham 2-1.
:mad2:  :glare: :ranting:
You a West Ham fan?
Just be thankful you're miles up the league!
Brighton are losing to Gillingham, what's going on there!?
 Heaven only knows Fly   :ranting:
They pulled it back - good work lads :)
Coastie 26-12-2004, 06:53 PM Well done Brighton.....
Pompey won 1-0 against Crystal Palace today so I'm happy too....I couldn't get to over excited though as the guy my mate has a serious crush on is CP's biggest fan!
Well done Brighton!
Preston managed another draw (we just can't score away!) at Stoke, from what I've heard PNE played better but never created much... never really expected more.
We CAN beat anyone at home and we're gonna put that to the test against Reading, Sunderland and WBA in the next week or so, Reading and Sunderland are must-win points because they're at home, and if we manage those and pick up our away form then we could scrape a play-off place, though it is very unlikely to happen... I can alway hope...
Good win for Preston today Fly - and I'm happy with a point away from home against Wolves. We are still to close to the bottom for my liking though....
YAY! Big victory against Reading, 3-0 putting our goal difference at something more respectable (-4!) we're still the lowest of the 4 36 point clubs (just 6 points of play-off places!) unfortunately we have Sunderland (2nd) next, though as I've said we can beat anyone at home (including Reading, West Ham, Derby!)
I knew I was right! Preston actually have a -3 goal difference not a -4, so we are in fact above QPR (and more importantly in the top half of the table!)
Coastie 01-01-2005, 06:04 PM Liverpool lost 1-0 to Chelsea....PANTS!
but
Pompey drew 1-1 against Norwich!
Wow, it's not just West Ham and Reading, you can now add Sunderland to the teams Preston have beaten recently, all top 6 teams! When I saw the fixtures through December I thought 'We'll be near the bottom after those games' but we've only been beaten by Wigan and Burnley (both away!)...
Sunderland didn't play well at all in the first half and it was a bit the opposite in the second... It would have been nice to have won 3-0 because our goal difference is disastrous... but you can't grumble at any win against Sunderland!
Cresswell is catching Dean Ashton as top scorer now, he's on 15, Ashton's on 19...
Preston now NEED to take our home form away and win some away matches because we'd be near the top if we could do that! It doesn't start easily though with an away game against in-form Crewe who haven't lost for ages! We're both on the same points and have the two highest goal scorers in the league... We'll have to see what happens.
A good 3 points Fly....
I'm pleased with the point against QPR away from home, although we are still to near the relegation zone for my liking.
Andrea - a good point for Norwich away at Portsmouth today!
Andrea 01-01-2005, 10:40 PM I was just going to say about Norwich drawing away at Portsmouth, but Coastie beat me to it.
But yeh, well needed point for us, after the last two defeats over Xmas. And I think we are at least out of the relegation zone................for now.
I was just going to say about Norwich drawing away at Portsmouth, but Coastie beat me to it.
Coastie... ?
Andrea 01-01-2005, 10:47 PM Coastie mentioned it on the page before.
So she did - I completely missed her post
I think Brighton will stay up, though Gillingham and Forest seem to be playing well at the moment, it's between Forest, Gills, Brighton and Cardiff, two of those will go down, I'm pretty sure Rotherham already realise they're going down... I don't think Brighton will though... they seem to get sufficient results...
Coastie 02-01-2005, 12:01 PM So she did - I completely missed her post
Nice to see your paying attention ILS! Now you really need to cheer louder if you want Brighton to stay up!
Nice to see your paying attention ILS! Now you really need to cheer louder if you want Brighton to stay up!
It's been this masked ball, it has got me all confused, I'll try to pay more attention in future!
COME ON YOU SEAGULLS !!!!!!!
*ils asks Coastie is that loud enough?*
Coastie 02-01-2005, 02:07 PM I don't know but you're now covered in bird poo!
Play up Pompey....
Pompey play up....
Come on the Blue Army!
Play up Pompey....
Pompey play up....
Come on the Blue Army!
Excuse me but
Brighton are the Blue Army
Coastie 02-01-2005, 02:14 PM NO POMPEY ARE THE BLUE ARMY....
What the heck...my old boss was a member of the Blue Army (Pompey Fan Club) - maybe any footie team that wears Blue is called the Blue Army....I just always thought Brighton were the Seagulls and that was that!
Andrea 02-01-2005, 02:15 PM Does that make me the canary army:blink:
NO POMPEY ARE THE BLUE ARMY....
What the heck...my old boss was a member of the Blue Army (Pompey Fan Club) - maybe any footie team that wears Blue is called the Blue Army....I just always thought Brighton were the Seagulls and that was that!
Actually Brighton are the Blue & White Army - I was just teasing you Coastie
Edit to say the white is not coming out on the white background :( You have to run your curser over it for it to show
Leicester could also be considered the "blue army"...
Preston's nickname is "The lilywhites" what a **** name! Not very scary is it!?
Andrea 03-01-2005, 02:35 PM Only just remembered that Norwich were playing early today,
Well, Liverpool beat us 2-1, oh well.
Coastie 03-01-2005, 07:15 PM Does that make me the canary army:blink:
Nah...your just a bunch of old birds!
Flyo....your team sounds like a bunch of ladies sanitary products but I think lillywhites is a department store or something so maybe Preston was the birth place for the chain!
It's no disgrace losing 2 - 1 to Liverpool Andrea...
We haven't lost in 4 games now beating Watford 2-1 today, and at last we have moved up the table a couple of places.... Hopefully they can keep it up!
Coastie 03-01-2005, 09:33 PM Well, Liverpool beat us 2-1, oh well.
Yay...oh sorry...oh dear I hope they play better next time andrea
COME ON YOU REDS!
Andrea 03-01-2005, 10:32 PM Yay...oh sorry...oh dear I hope they play better next time andrea
COME ON YOU REDS!
You watch your mouth dear.
We might sound like ladies sanitary products on paper, but we got our 3rd straight victory against teams above us today, and unbeaten in 5... We've gone up to 9th, just 3 points of play-offs, and I think we can keep that up for Leicester, Plymouth, Coventry and QPR (hopefully) though the aways at Plymouth and QPR will be tight like that at Crewe (We just stopped their 8 game undefeated run)
Not the best of games, but I was in the front row, right next to the pitch... it got a bit scrappy after Crewe scored their goal and we got a player sent off, but we managed to hang on again!
Well done to Brighton, up to 18th, must feel a bit safer now, though a few of the bottom clubs seem to be posing more of a threat now...
Coastie 04-01-2005, 06:20 AM You watch your mouth dear.
What...what'd I do?
Your cheers are obviously being answered Fly....keep it up!
Well done to Brighton, up to 18th, must feel a bit safer now, though a few of the bottom clubs seem to be posing more of a threat now...
Yes I am a little happier although as you say a few of the other clubs are doing better themselves which is worrying :( Still if we keep drawing and winning we should be ok...

Your boys are doing well Fly - you never know, you could be in a play off place soon.....
We could be, only we'll go and cock up against someone like Rotherham!
Coastie 04-01-2005, 07:45 PM Eeeeeew Jamie Rednap has joined his dad at Scumhampton..... Beattie has been sold to Everton to pay for the deal and well the Scummers look like they just might be going down this year....
COME ON POMPEY! :bye:
Andrea 04-01-2005, 10:38 PM Has anyone seen match of the day tonight.
Tottenham were robbed of a goal.
They were playing Man united:sick: and from about the halfway line a Tottenham player lobbed the ball over the Man united goalie who was way out of his box. The goalie ran back and scooped the ball out of the goal mouth, no goal given.
But even without replay you could see the ball was over the line by about 3 feet, the lines man reckoned it never went over the line:blink: Scandalous
I saw it on the news Andrea and Spurs were robbed!
The linesman must be a Man Utd fan or in desperate need for glasses!
You are right it is/was scandalous!!
The rest of my family are united fans and even they say Spurs should have had that goal, I've not seen it, but it sounds like an obvious goal... i wouldn't like to be a spurs fan at the minute!!
PNE have just signed a Bristol City Defender (my mate's team) Matt Hill... we only had a squad of 14 to play against West Brom in the cup on Saturday due to injury, suspension, international duty, loans etc... anyway, we NEED defenders and Matt Hill may just save us!
I'd love Southampton to go down, dunno why, I've always had something against them... maybe their many years of JUST clinging onto top flight football... West Brom, Southamton and Blackburn should go down... (Preston, Ipswich and Sunderland should go up!)
I wonder if Brighton will be so lucky as Man Utd were, when we play Spurs in the FA Cup at the weekend....
Some how I doubt it !!!
Nope, Matt Hill can't play in the cup... since he played against Brentford, where Bristol City lost anyway!!
Oh well, we nearly got a draw with Spurs...:(
I guess we can consentrate on staying in the Championship now ............
A 2-1 at tottenham isn't a bad result, though in the cup it's as good at 10-0 I suppose...
PNE are out too against the Baggies, Preston played well for about 10 minutes in the second half, but never did much else, we just never created chances, therefore never scored... we did have a half-strength squad though with internations, injuries and suspensions (and it was some of out best players who were out!) but you can't expect to play a team in a league above you (no matter how badly they're doing there) and expect to win... need to concentrate on the league anyway, heh!
Man U 0 - 0 Exeter... Can someone please explain?
Man U 0 - 0 Exeter... Can someone please explain?
Football is a funny game!
Andrea 08-01-2005, 10:35 PM Yeh ils, they did well. They were 1-0 up against spurs at one point.
Well we went out, and I'm going to say the same thing, we can concentrate on the premiership.....they need to:laugh:
You'll be soaring now you got Dean Ashton! He's a good player, he'll get you goals from nowhere.
Coastie 09-01-2005, 09:19 AM Pompey's through to the next round...they won 1-0 at home to Grimsby!
Taffy 09-01-2005, 09:23 AM Man U 0 - 0 Exeter... Can someone please explain?
I suppose you could say Exeter won 0-0
Andrea 09-01-2005, 11:06 PM You'll be soaring now you got Dean Ashton! He's a good player, he'll get you goals from nowhere.
Ooh Thanks for that Flyo, i didn't even know we'd got him.
Lets hope he carries on with the goal scoring then.
Excellent win for Brighton today, I think they're gonna stay up for sure now...
Preston managed to get a 1-1 draw against Leicester... in all fairness Leicester didn't deserve a goal, nor did they deserve a point... PNE completely outplayed them... Preston are now 8th though there are several teams with games in hand! I don't think hey can beat Plymouth away, but we'll see!
It was a fantastic result for my boys yesterday, I think you are right Fly, if we carry on like this, we should stay up this time. Shame Preston didn't get the win, they deserved Fly, but at least they pulled back a point.
It wasn't such a good day for Norwich though, heres hoping they can pick up a few points soon or they will be in the Championship with us next season!
Andrea 16-01-2005, 10:49 AM Agree with you there ils, not a good day for Norwich at all. 3-0 defeat.
We are going to have to start getting some points soon or else we will be back in the first division.
At the bottom of the premiership it's starting to split up a bit, and the four at the bottom are going to be battling it out to stay up. As three go down and hubby informs me that Southampton are the best at just scraping through, it's not looking good for Norwich or the others that basically got promoted last season.
Coastie 17-01-2005, 12:39 PM Southampton are indeed past masters at scrapping through at the last minute.....they have done every year for as long as I can remember......I personally couldn't give a hoot if they go down...It's POMPEY I care about and their fighting to keep their star striker at the moment!
mikado 17-01-2005, 03:20 PM Agree with you there ils, not a good day for Norwich at all. 3-0 defeat.

You think you have problems Andrea - spare a thought for your neighbours! :) It looks like Cambridge Utd are toast this season... :( :( :(
Preston played extremely well against Leicester but just conceeded an unlucky (though very well taken) free kick... Preston's goal was also a free kick, quite similar... but Leicester never looked threatening... we just need to create more chances...
Well its a big one for us down in Devon tonight............
David (Exeter) takes on Goliath (Man U)...........
I really want Exeter to win......I dont normally watch unless there is something worth perving over, but I will be watching tonight!
Come on Exeter!!!!!

Woodstock 20-01-2005, 08:30 AM Well I hate Man U :ranting: So I would love to see them to be knocked out by a little club!!!
.....close but no cigar.....2-0!!
Awww poor old Exeter........the plus in all of this is the amount of money they made, WITHOUT ripping off their fans.....take heed Man U!!!!!
I dont hate Man U (Aston Villa??? yes - thats a completely different story!!!!), I just dont seem to see the point of watching them anymore....it was different when Golden Balls was still there.....
.....close but no cigar.....2-0!!
No but they did really well & I loved the nutmeg on Renaldo
Woodstock 20-01-2005, 08:11 PM ....it was different when Golden Balls was still there.....
I'm afraid this is all too true. Although I'm sure your motives for believing so are far different from mine. Bring him back - all is forgiven!
Bring him back - all is forgiven!
Isn't it true that the 'Old Trafford' faithfulls don't want him back?
Woodstock 21-01-2005, 06:19 PM Isn't it true that the 'Old Trafford' faithfulls don't want him back?
no, far from it - many Red's fans want him back. I aslo (sounds like a city in Norway) think many would sacrifice Sir Alex to have him back at OT. I personally wouldn't go that far but I'd love to see someone crossing the ball here accurately once more.
many Red's fans want him back.
And many don't! :glare:
Andrea 22-01-2005, 06:18 PM We got one point today, its a start.
But I am definately going to be watching MOTD tonight as Norwich were 4-1 down and made a comeback, the match ended up with a score of 4-4.

Wow! - sounds like a thriller. I haven't caught wind of any results as I just woke up. Better to just watch MOTD unravel the days events for me later on.
If only they could turn those draws into wins - can't complain though hitting back from 4-1 down....
We got one point today, its a start.
But I am definately going to be watching MOTD tonight as Norwich were 4-1 down and made a comeback, the match ended up with a score of 4-4.
They did fantastic to claw their way back Andrea.
We also got a point today, home to Notts Forest, they are fighting for their lives so a good result I feel. We are 8 points above the relegation zone at the moment so we need to keep collecting the points.
Fly - a good away win today!
Woodstock 22-01-2005, 11:17 PM No but they did really well & I loved the nutmeg on Renaldo
"there's only one......."
I told you Ashton would score! Excellent come back by Norwich!
Preston are SIXTH!!! Yes, SIXTH!! West Ham have a game in hand, but still...
I just know it's all gonna go wrong soon! Won our last two away games now (a loss and a draw at home.. what's going on!?)
Brighton sticking in there!!
maxine 23-01-2005, 09:26 AM Palace thrashed Spurs yesterday! 3-0.
Woodstock 24-01-2005, 08:37 AM ....anyone notice that there was a "Moxey" and a "Neville" taking part in the Exeter vs Man.U mis-match the other night??
I did, and I immediately began scanning the pitch for other Auf Wiedersehn Pet characters....
....there was a Wayne (Rooney),and the final result was a real Bomber....bummer....for the dear old Exeter fans.
and if those connections weren't enough - the match was held at St.James' Park - and who else plays there home games at a St.James' Park?......why Newcastle, of course!!
Good luck to Wigan and also Yeovil (have a soft spot for them as I used to study in Cider Country).....and here's hoping Man.U claw those 11 points back from Chelsea....if they don't then I suppose I could bring myself to say Well Done! - 'cos they deserve the title. Anyone but the Gooners and those whom I shall not mention from across the way in Merseyside......anyone!
We are now up to 17th in the table after our 1-1 draw at Leeds.
I am hopeful now that we will be in the Championship league again next year!

You have to understand that I have a special place in my heart for The Seagulls. But I'm drawn between not wishing any damage done to them, and wanting to rattle your cage - such a dilemma for me.....

Woodstock 31-01-2005, 09:10 AM Woodstock's Tuesday Match Forecast
Arsenal 1 Manchester United 3
Chelsea have already clinched the title - that much we know. But the most exciting aspect of the run-in to the season's end is the perennial duel between great rivals "The Gooners" and "The Reds". Man United to win 3-1, and Rooney to grab another brace.......
Woodstock 31-01-2005, 11:57 PM I saw little snippets of the Yeovil vs Charlton Cup game the other evening and I thought the one time non-league side played excellent, not only that but they also passed the ball around like a Premiership side. And I even read somewhere that the Charlton fans applauded the opposition side off the pitch......how often does that occur??
I still stand by my 3-1 prediction infavour of my team later tonight......it could get nasty though!!

Andrea 03-02-2005, 12:35 PM OK I know this should be in 'avin a laugh, but it is football related so all who come in here will appreciate it....
The Neville brothers are sat in a bar with their dog, having a quiet drink.
In walks a guy, walks up to the dog, lifts its tail up and has a good look round, after 5 minutes of looking, he just walks out again.
The Neville brothers just look at each other and shrug their shoulders.
5 minutes later, another bloke walks in, walks up to the dog, lifts its tail up and has a good look round. After a few minutes he just walks out.
The Neville brothers again, look at each other and shrug their shoulders.
Well, another 10 minutes pass, and a third guy walks in, walks up to the dog, lifts its tail up and has a good look. After a few minutes, he starts to walk out. Well by this time the Neville brothers are wondering what is going on.
Gary Neville shouts to the bloke just walking out "Hey mate, what's going on"
The guy replies "Well, my mate outside says there is a dog in here with two @rses" http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_6.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSYYYYYYAXGB)
Woodstock 03-02-2005, 03:27 PM ....and to think, I adopted Norwich City as my second team......unbelievable......un-believable......
Coastie 05-02-2005, 07:15 PM Congratulations Andrea...your team did well today!
Play up Pompey....yet another loss!
We lost as well Coastie :(
Andrea - fantastic win for your boys :)
Woodstock 06-02-2005, 09:37 AM ......please slip up today Chelsea......please, please, please, please.....just one minor slip-up - it wouldn't harm you for a few weeks......
.......please, please, please deduct them 4 points for gross misconduct of the poaching kind.......
......it's surely not too much to ask.....
Well I have one Chelsea supporter, one Manchester United supporter and one Manchester City supporter in my family - none of them have any taste at all...
But I hope Chelsea win today and go on to win the league :)
Woodstock 06-02-2005, 10:35 AM But I hope Chelsea win today and go on to win the league :)
....and thank you for that also...;)
they probably will, but lest we forget that Man City are the only team to have beaten them this season....however I see no repeat.....4-0 to the foreigners!
Preston 6th, again! Yet another win, not lost in 8 now :D we got QPR away next which I can't see us getting more than a draw... then Ipswich, who you can't really expect to get much against at all!
Woodstock 06-02-2005, 12:53 PM My three for promotion have to be Ipswich, Sunderland, Wigan (perhaps West Ham at Sunderland or Wigan's expense). I always had a feeling Wigan would get there eventually when they were languishing in the 3rd Div. There aren't too many Dave Whelan's around for the lower league teams unfortunately, but he's done a great job in turning that team around. It'd be great to see them become a force in the Premiership - and I think they could do it...
Andrea 06-02-2005, 10:15 PM Excellent 3 points gained.
But from listening to it on the radio, they weren't defending very well and WBA could have easily won it.
But hey, as one of the commentators said, it doesn't matter if they played rubbish when they won it.
And also what has helped us is that all the other teams around us lost their games. Now do that for a few more weeks lads.
Woodstock 07-02-2005, 07:49 AM .....there is a God after all:w00t: ........aside from Eric of course.....
now we have to hope the FA do the right thing and deduct those 4 points from the "Pensioners"
pains me to say it but......w....w.....no I can't - just can't.......ohh.....w....well done Manchester City:thumbsup: .....gahhhh!.....that was quite possibly the most difficult thing I've ever had to do in my life......
Woodstock 07-02-2005, 11:58 AM Chelsea beware!
Having disposed of both Liverpool and Arsenal in two incredibly well-disciplined and often exhilerating performances, we are now hot on the trail of the blues-without-a-clue from Stamford Bridge - "without a clue" because they have not been in this position for a long long long long time. Can they handle the pressure now it is mounting up? The loss of the very same player that injected life into their team earlier in the season is now out with a long-term injury. So can they handle it?
Not only have we seen off the challenge of the mighty Arsenal, we have our top profile players putting in some rather tasty performances themselves - Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs (please sort him out a new contract!) Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane (here's to the next 50 goals cap'n!), & Paul Scholes (the Ginger Genius) are firing on all cylinders. We now look settled in defence - Rio "was he really out for 8 months?" Ferdinand commanding the back four. Our new left-back, Gabriel Heinze - what a discovery. And even our goaly looks in fine fettle.
All this without even a mention of the living legend that is Ruuuuuuud (van Nistelrooy) and the wonderfully gritty Alan Smith.
We've been in similar situations before......Newcastle had the title sewn-up...or so they thought :shocking: .....Arsenal a couple of seasons ago panicked when they looked over their shoulders.....
So, as we approach the final furlong, my money - if I had any, would be firmly on The Red  's. I just don't think Chelsea can handle it.....
Woodstock 07-02-2005, 12:15 PM Excellent 3 points gained.
It was a gritty performance by the Canaries. Dean Ashton looks a shrewd bit of business by the Worthington-gaffer. Whether they can out-point the likes of West Brom (who are assmebling a good side) Portsmouth, or Southampton is a tough call. I think Palace look a safe bet as one of the new sides to stay afloat. I'd like to see Norwich stay up so they can savour the derby atmosphere once again when they lock horns with the tractor-drivers! So, who goes down? The two south coast sides might just, along with West Brom.
What chance of re-signing Chris Sutton?? Now that would be good business Mr. Worthington.....
Not a good day for Portsmouth, Norwich or us......
We lost 2-0 away to Cardiff which brings them up to one point behind us with a game in hand
We are still 4 places & 8 points above the relegation zone so hopefully we can hold on!
Great win for Preston Fly - I see they are in 4th at the moment - in a great position to grab a play off place.
Woodstock 13-02-2005, 11:48 AM Woodstock's matchday forecast:
Man City 2 Man United 5

Woodstock 15-02-2005, 09:39 AM With Chelsea nine points ahead of their closest rivals in the race for the Premiership crown, it would appear to be a lost cause for both Arsenal and Manchester United. Well, I'm here to give non-believers fresh hope (mainly myself....) that there is still plenty to play for......
Here are remaining fixtures (of the not so clear-cut variety) of the top teams:
Saturday 26th Feb
Man United v Portsmouth (3 points for the Reds)
Southampton v Arsenal (tricky south coast encounter)
Saturday 5th March
Arsenal v Portsmouth (3 points for the Gooners)
Crystal Palace v Man Untied (tricky match to negotitate but should be 3 points in the bag for the Reds)
Wednesday 16th March
Chelsea v WBA (3 point-certainty for the Blues)
Saturday 19th March
Man United v Fulham (another 3 points for the Reds)
Sunday 20th March
Liverpool v Everton (should make for the best Merseyside derby seen for many a year - whoever wins this may just get the 4th Euro spot - both currently 5th and 4th respectively)
Saturday 2nd April
Southampton v Chelsea (always tricky to play Southampton on their home patch......who am I trying to convince here??.....)
Arsenal v Norwich (3 points-cert for the Gooners)
Man United v Blackburn (3 points cert for the Reds)
Saturday 9th April
Middlesboro v Arsenal (shall not be easy for the Gooners)
....and this is when it really begins to hot up.....
Saturday 16th April
Man United v Chelsea (in insignificant match but......omg MAN UNITED v CHELSEA!!!....am I looking forward to it? - my hands are rubbing against themselves involuntarily...you bet I am!...))
Arsenal v Everton (will be an exciting weekend as all these teams currently make up the top 4 sides in the Premiership - Everton may just cause an upset here)
Wednesday 20th April
Chelsea v Arsenal (Chelsea play Man United at the weekend and now this......I'm looking forward to this game every bit as much as the Man United v Chelsea encounter....it'll be a cracker!)
Saturday 23rd April
Arsenal v Spurs (North London derby - won't be easy against Martin Jol's well-organised team)
Saturday 30th April
Bolton v Chelsea (good old neighbourly Bolton - if anyone can put the spoilers on Chelsea, it's Sam Allardyce's boys)
Saturday 7th May (penultimate weekend)
Arsenal v Liverpool (another massive game for Arsenal, and by no means certain of 3 points)
Man United v WBA (by all means certain of 3 points....Bryan Robson will not want to upset Fergie in any way, I'm sure)
Saturday 14th May (final weekend)
Newcastle v Chelsea (yet another tricky one on the final day for Mourinho's men - Souness will have his lot fired up for this game. Shearer may have a say in the destination of the title)
Andrea 15-02-2005, 02:21 PM bit of a rubbish game against Blackburn on Saturday.
I was listening to it on the radio (why do I pay for sky sports:blink: ) and the commentators were saying how Blackburn defence were all over the place, this game is there for the taking for Norwich.
Pah, lost again.
I have a feeling we may be meeting you ils next season, and the tractor boys are very likely to go up:sad:

Woodstock 20-02-2005, 12:16 PM ils I read yesterday (ceefax) that Bobby Zamora is now joining Stoke from the Hammers. Why on earth did he choose to join them rather than return to his old stomping ground??? I know he's struggled since he left but he was a fantastic player for us before he chose pastures new - I know he'd do the business if he came back to B&H. He's the one player that could ignite a serious challenge for promotion to the Premiership. In fact. had he remained there, I'm almost certain Brighton would be playing the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U - imagine the revenue!!......
PS: hope your boy/s won today.
He won't come back because we don't have a stadium ...
And John Prescott keeps delaying the decision on one!

I doubt it as we are on the 2nd enquiry!
The goldstone ground is now a large shopping centre..... I've never been there since the ground was pulled down. I couldn't face it!

The goldstone ground is now a large shopping centre..... I've never been there since the ground was pulled down. I couldn't face it!
Why did i know you was going to say that....
I can't say i blame you really. Shopping centres are all over the place these days and taking up vast recreational space. It's such a shame. I have a pic of me stood right outside the ground too. I suppose now, if you superimposed the image I'd be stood inside a Boots store..... :(
Preston got a draw against ipswich on Friday, which sounds good on paper, but Preston outplayed Ipswich in the first half and matched, if not bettered them in the 2nd too...
Nugents goal was fanastic while Ipswiches was just scrappy and not deserved. Preston should have had an OBVIOUS penalty too. Sheff Utd and West Ham can now go above us pushing us down to 7th, and neither of them (or Derby) seem to have many of the big teams (apart from Preston) yet to play, we have all three of them AND Wigan...
Our main keeper's out for 6-9 months (and he was one of the reasons we were doing so well...) and now out second keeper got injured on Friday...!! We're just gonna slip...
Well done Brighton!! 10 men against Sunderland!
Andrea 01-03-2005, 09:51 AM Well it's looking more and more likely that Norwich will be relegated at the end of the season.
The match against Man. City last night started off well. 2-nil up after 15mins, yes Norwich actually ahead in a game.
But in good old Norwich fashion, the defence were rubbish and it all went totally pear shaped, ended up being 3-2 to Man City.
We now have to basically win half the matches left of the season. With Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea coming up, its a tall order:sad:
Woodstock 01-03-2005, 12:36 PM We now have to basically win half the matches left of the season. With Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea coming up, its a tall order:sad:
Isn't it always the way. You take an explosive early lead (Liverpool were victims of this at the weekend too) and then the oppostition come right back at you. Man.City seem to be very good at this. Spurs were 3-0 up against them at half-time last season in an FA Cup game one evening, only for them to lose 4-3......City snatching a last minute goal :( - ring any bells??
But I can empathise with your forthcoming fixtures - it doesn't bode well for the Canaries. It might have been okay if any of those three didn't have any interest remaining in the season, but as you well know, they very much do!!
But if you do go down (and unfortunately it appears rather likely now) then you may be lifted by the thought that Ipswich's own destiny is not yet assured (having lost at the weekend) - they are now level on points with Sunderland and Wigan, and it's looking like it may pan out to be an extremely close finish between those three - very exciting. So you may yet have your East Anglian derby games next season. You may have them regardless, as Norwich may survive the drop and Ipswich will achieve promotion!
Massive games at the weekend in the Championship, most notably Wigan v Ipswich - should be a great game.
Well it's looking more and more likely that Norwich will be relegated at the end of the season.
One consolation if they are relegated is that Norwich can play Brighton next season :D
It looks hopeful we will stay in the Championship now. We are now 15 with a 10 point cushion over those in the relegation zone after a fantastic last minute winner against Millwall on Saturday....
Woodstock 03-03-2005, 07:18 AM a fantastic last minute winner against Millwall on Saturday....

You've got Preston to play yet... you beat us earlier in the season...

Cockney 16-03-2005, 02:06 PM Who did you support before and why have you changed allegence?
Chelsea was always my second team ever since I was a little boy
But livening where I lived you had to be a West Ham supporter
But enough is enough they have not done anything since the eighties so they can poke it there not getting my money no more
I notice you have changed whilst Chelsea are doing well Cock :ninja:
Andrea 17-03-2005, 09:22 AM Ils, I was just looking at the championship tables in the paper and on first look, Brighton seem safe.
But then looking at the points, its all very close isn't it?
Lets hope they win some more matches.
I want the Norwich/Brighton clash next season:thumbsup:

That would be good Andrea, I could come up to Norwich and see my boys thrash yours :ninja: *ils is day dreaming again*
You are right they need another couple of wins to make sure they stay up, I only hope the last few weeks have been a blip!
Brighton will stay up I think... it's just looking very close at the bottom, any of the bottom 8 could get relegated.
Preston keep drawing... we've had chance to go a bit further ahead of the other play-off chasers but not used it! At least we've not lost though... I seriously hope we get a play off place. 8 games left, still anything can happen. Watford away at the weekend, I think it's gonna be a bad one for us... still matching Derby on points, and we've got to play them.
PNE v Millwall and PNE v Wigan are on Sky (both in one week)
Brighton v Reading is on on Monday, you should et some points there, Reading aren't doing too well at the moment and just lost to Rotherham!!
It is very close Fly - I am getting a little worried. I am not sure about Reading though, after the last 2 performances I would be happy for a draw!
Andrea 18-03-2005, 11:05 PM Well, we are playing Bolton away at the Reebok stadium tomorrow, and I actually get to watch it on Sky :shocking:
They really need to win this if they are to do anything in the last 9 games.
Woo!
2-0 PNE... Nugent seems to be a good buy!
Good result for Preston Fly!
Fingers crossed for my boys tonight against Reading :bag:

Ha, just reread this. Well it is looking more definate that me and ils will be having an SO meet at carrow road next year.
Ha, just reread this. Well it is looking more definate that me and ils will be having an SO meet at carrow road next year.
That's if we can hang on to our Championship place.... we are only 3 points & 3 places above the relegation zone
Ooh... I watched the Brighton vs. Reading game out of the corner of my eye, it wasn't the best ever, but I felt Brighton deserved a point. I have a serious hatred of Reading. I just hope Brighton stay up.
It's a really big game for us tomorrow, away to Coventry who are 3rd from bottom in the Championship and who only have 3 points less than us!
We really have to win this one or we are going to be in serious trouble, a real 6 pointer!
Yeah that is a big one for you, you seem to have slipped a bit recently, and I'm not gonna let you beat Preston during the week. We'll try and stop Gillingham tomorrow, but they seem to be getting a few results at the moment.
NOT HAPPY!!!
Gillingham didn't deserve a single point from that game, yet along they come in the 95th minute (4 extra minutes, when there was only really need for 2 at most!) to equalise when preston had defended their 1-0 lead for over an hour. Admittedly we did waste the chances we had and didn't really deserve to win ourselves, but for two important points to be snatched so cruelly. If Gillingham stay up by 1 point that referee is to blame, everything went Gillingham's way!
Sorry ils, but Brighton are gonna have to put up a fight on Tuesday, because we're not gonna let another few points slip like we did today.
Luckily everyone else seemed to be playing teams right next to them in the league, ours seemed to be the only clash separated by more than six point, and lots of teams drew so we still sit 4th and Derby can't catch us with their extra game now, but it would have been nice to see us get a victory and be more comfortably in the play-off places.
3-0!!! (hides from ils)
We have already relegated Rotherham next, surely another 3 points, but things are never that simple. We need to keep up with the wins because the teams behind us are matching us all the way!
Well we have finally ended our run of defeat (6) with a draw.... unfortunately it still leaves us in the relegation zone
We now have only 4 games to save ourselves, I'm not sure whether we will do it though!
Patsy 11-04-2005, 02:03 PM Do we not have any supporters of property football clubs here? :ninja:

What are property football clubs Patsy? :ninja:
Patsy 11-04-2005, 04:05 PM Bu..er! I suppose if I'm going to be inslultling I shuld do it propertly.
I meant proper
Bu..er! I suppose if I'm going to be inslultling I shuld do it propertly.

Yes I think if you are going to be insulting you should do it properly
Andrea 17-04-2005, 10:05 PM What can I say
Norwich just seem to like giving themselves a hard time.
We were 3-1 up in the game yesterday and of course it ended 3-3.
But I suppose we are still in the battle for staying up. There still is a chance yet.
And Southampton lost so that was good news for us too.
Andrea 20-04-2005, 08:41 PM Wooooooooooooooooooo
I thought we'd lost it, 2 minutes to go to full time and Newcastle score to make it 1-1.
But unbelievably into stoppage time, Dean Ashton scores and we've got 3 points.
I can't believe it, I need a drink.
:goof: :goof: :goof: :goof:
Great win Andrea! can they still save themselves?
Andrea 20-04-2005, 08:51 PM I've just been looking on the bbc site and it looks like us, Crystal Palace, West Brom and Southampton will all be within one point of each other.
There is still a chance yet.
Patsy 20-04-2005, 09:13 PM Chelski still can't defeat the mighty Gunners at the Bridge.
I'm so happy even though Miriam's gone
We now only have 3 games to save ourselves from relegation. We have West Ham at home tomorrow, then we are away at the already relegated Rotherham the following Saturday with our last match being at home against Ipswich on Sunday 8th May!
I think we need to get 4 points from these 3 games to stay up, but West Ham are fighting to get in to the play off places, so I sense we won't get anything from them. Rotherham although relegated will be playing for pride so that won't be an easy game. Ipswich is not going to be easy either as they could still be in the chance with an automatic promotion place!
We are going to have to play our socks off and hope for a little bit of luck if we aren't going to be relegated for the 2nd time in 3 years!
Andrea 23-04-2005, 04:34 PM They've done it again.
I'm sure Norwich want their supporters to all have heart attacks from the stress.
No score until the 88th minute when Norwich get one in, phew.
We are now third from bottom with the same points as the team above us in the safety zone but worse goal difference.
All four teams at the bottom are within 2 points of each other.
We want Portsmouth to beat Southampton tomorrow and then we come and play Southampton next week. We have to win that one.
Ils didn't Brighton end up 2-2? I saw they were down 1-0, then scored and then within one minute they let another in. But I'm sure I saw them 2-2 at the final score.
Coastie 24-04-2005, 11:40 AM It's the big southern derby today.....I hope that Pompey win but at the same time hope that the stupid idiots who ran riot last time this fixture was played either get a life or walk off the edge of a very tall cliff before they get any where near the grounds...... :glare:
Unfortunately the Pompey idiots are the worst kind!
Andrea 24-04-2005, 12:59 PM Yes Coastie, we want pompey to win as well.
can't even watch it on tv cause its on prem plus, sky the scrounging gits :mad2:
Andrea 24-04-2005, 01:09 PM Just been on the bbc website and the match has already finished.
Pompey won 4-1
Yeeeeeeeeh, just the result we needed.
We have prem plus but not the other sports channels (my pennies just don't stretch to that) so we had it on. A great result for Pompey and for Norwich!
Andrea yes we did end up 2-2 (we equalised in the 2 minute of the 4 minutes added on) Like your team we tend to leave it to the last minute and also like your team we are still 3rd from bottom with the same amount of points as the team above us in the safety zone but with a worse goal difference.
We have relegated Rotherham away from home next week which we really have to win and then Ipswich at home for the last game of the season. Neither will be easy games.

Ooh tough last few games ils.
Especially when Ipswich want to get automatic promotion.
I'll be rooting for you  Can't have those tractor boys having an easy time of it.
mikado 25-04-2005, 09:16 AM

I'm ashamed to admit even I was pleased with this result and "I'm a laydeeee I dont like football" !!!!
Coastie 25-04-2005, 09:24 PM I'm ashamed to admit even I was pleased with this result and "I'm a laydeeee I dont like football" !!!!
Well lets just say you don't like football and leave it at that shall we!
Cracking result......still very excited about it!
Andrea 26-04-2005, 10:15 PM Ooh west brom drew at blackburn, which now puts them above norwich in 18th place :shocking:
But norwich, west brom and palace are all on 30 points.
Southampton below us are on 28.
Very, very close.
Southampton definately hold the key. We play them on Saturday and then Palace play them as well.
I can't stand the suspense.
ils, Crewe have ipswich too as well as coventry. I think Brighton can get a result against anyone, they always seem to pull something out of the hat while Crewe just don't get points any more. I think you'll just need 2 points to stay up.
Come on Norwich, you can do it! Didn't I say Deano would be a great player!
As for PNE, play-off place not guaranteed after we lost to Millwall (couldn't watch the whole match cos of spiggin Pompey v. Southampton!) but Derby went and lost too... we need either a win (against Wigan or Derby!) or West Ham or Reading to lose (Reading have Wigan too) I think we should get it, but it would be much better to finish 4th or 5th than 6th (wanna avoid playing Ipswich twice!) Then we can go up and thrash Norwich next season ;)
maxine 28-04-2005, 09:42 AM Southampton definately hold the key. We play them on Saturday and then Palace play them as well.
I can't stand the suspense.
I'll be at the Palace/Southampton game, Andrea. My dad supports Southampton although I think it's only to annoy my mum who's from Portsmouth! The little tinker.
Andrea 30-04-2005, 10:46 PM well just watched MOTD and Norwich, even though we lost, played pretty well I think.
Southampton's goalie saved about 3 in the second half that if luck was going our way we would have converted.
We still have a chance though, and talking through all the possibilities with my hubby a while ago, we reckon we have the best chance of staying up. Fingers crossed anyway.
But I was thinking tonight, it really is a shame for the ones that do go down, and maybe that might be us, because the 4 at the bottom have played excellently in the past few weeks, and have been the best games played in the premiership, IMO.
Andrea 06-05-2005, 10:05 PM Just been watching the local news and they had Brighton stadium on there and showed us the pier, well whats left of it.
They were talking about the final match with Ipswich.
I can't believe I'm going to be missing out on the matches on Saturday due to travelling. Nearly thought of cancelling my holiday
But didn't.
Definately have to watch MOTD though :D

Well if you will have your holiday before the footie season ends
The championship matches are on Sunday, kick of 1pm, Andrea. So you will just have to find a pub with sky sports that has a play area for the boys! Sorted!
Btw - did you stay stadium - that's a laugh, we don't have a stadium, that is the local sports arena, where we had our school sports day!
Andrea 06-05-2005, 10:13 PM Yeh, well actually Ils, they did kind of make a slight, I say slight joke about the "staduim" :wink2:
Yeh, well actually Ils, they did kind of make a slight, I say slight joke about the "staduim" :wink2:
Well it is a joke..... just like John Prescott is! :ranting:
YAY!! Brighton stayed up!! Unfortunately however Gillingham only managed a draw meaning Crewe also stayed up, grrrr!
Preston finished 5th, which isn't to be grumbled at, but if Derby think they can beat us twice in the play-off semi's they've got another thing coming, we're a completely different team at home, and they're gonna find out about it. 3-0 again!!
