What happened to it? Did it just tire? Fee For All 21-01-2006, 10:40 PM You can read about it here (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21012006/325/whale-dies-during-dramatic-rescue-bid.html) Tiggs Bella 21-01-2006, 10:41 PM I watched this on Sky News all afternoon and have to say I thought it would end up like this. I can't help thinking that moving it onto the barge was the wrong move but I am no expert and I am sure they knew what they doing. A sad end though. Fee For All 21-01-2006, 10:43 PM I suppose though it was better than euthanising it in front of the crowds. Poor thing. msgirl 22-01-2006, 01:30 AM How sad!!:shocking: Aondeag 23-01-2006, 09:56 AM I too was very sad to hear this. And I read that the body of a little calf whale was found in the vicinity too. :-(( The poor thing must have been so traumatised.I can still picture the awful scene of the poor creature being winched on to the barge, and it just looked so stressful. Boo hoo. Isis 23-01-2006, 10:51 AM This is soooo sad! I spent Friday afternoon glued to SKY news watching events unfurl.......I felt very strongly that something should have been done on Friday afternoon, but not being an expert on Marine life I guess that the "powers that be" were doing the right thing. Here in the SW we have a programme called Seaside Rescue (I think of Coasie each time I watch it and have a good look out for you hunnie :wink2: just in case).................. The other week there was a porpoise that was in trouble in Cornwall - the Life Guards did all they could to get him back to open water, but the currents were too strong, eventually, he was put to sleep by a Marine Vet - I sobbed my heart out, but in the back of my mind was the fact that Nature has its own way of dealing with things - perhaps these magnificent beasts DO beach themselves to die, perhaps they KNOW they are going to die and decide to swim into the shallows to prevent themselves from drowning......we just dont know........... all in all a very sad state of affairs  mikado 25-01-2006, 08:19 AM ...the whale-in-the-Thames died  But on the bright side, it'll keep Pete in handbags for years. :wink2: Lol! :) But was this whale species endangered enough for Pete? I don't suppose he turns every bit of roadkill into fashion wear. (Or maybe he does...? ) survivorfan 25-01-2006, 08:30 AM I read a story yesterday about a couple in Australia I think it was who found a funny rock on the beach. It turned out to be ambergris which could net them something like $150000. Fee For All 25-01-2006, 08:52 AM Was it dead? survivorfan 25-01-2006, 08:55 AM Er, I think so, if it was alive it would have run away.
