Unethical women?

And as Alan Sugar kicks off another series of The Apprentice tonight we'll be examining his comments that women should not flirt to achieve business success.

Does flirting offer women some unfair advantage? Or is it a legitimate weapon in an often still sexist and unfair workplace?

Don't men flirt too?

This topic will be up for discussion on Newsnight ... just thought I'd mention it as it will be a little extra Apprentice fix!

I saw a preview of the apprentice where Sir Alan said to the women something like " and burushing your hair back doesn`t cut it with me". I have worked in places where the women did flirt with the boss (I could not stand the man) just because they thought he would promote them. In the end it was actually a 50 year old woman he promoted and not one of the crowd that was fliritng with him. Oh how we laughed.

I find that if I flirt with my line manager I can usually get what I want:ninja:

(please remember when reading this comment that Cat is my line manager)

If those men are stupid enough to fall for it, then they deserve it, IMO.

In an ideal world though, there'd be an equal smattering of male and female bosses so it wouldn't be necessary.

I work for a very attractive woman and I've never seen her flirt to get her point across or to get her own way. I've always admired her immensly for that as it would be such an easy route for her to take.

She is well respected in the organisation for her ability by both sexes.

.... yes she is very lucky to have me!!! I say I'm the "yang" to her "ying"!!!

Sex Sells! Its the way of the world, may be unfair but ithat is the way it is I am afraid. They cannot be a woman on this earth who did not use her feminine wiles to her advantage at some time, if not only to get the male bus driver to open the doors for her at the traffic lights!!

Hello Dolores,

As one of SO 's proud flirts, I only flirt socially.

My immediate bosses at the two Universities I teach at, are men. They toy with me to get there research papers ready. Sometimes they go so far as to suggest, I co - write, their research papers and then they check them add a little here and there and hey presto, its ready for publication. I get mad though if the amount of input is not equal as we would both get paid the same amount.

I have felt tempted to flirt in the work environment but felt it best to leave it to the pub, the theatre club etc and music networking entertainment events.
