What is it with them all bawling??

Surely they should be made of tougher stuff than this? If you saw someone at work crying would you think them weak? In a business situation is it ok for a woman to cry but not a man?

It depends. I'm sure if anyone broke Buzz's stapler there would be tears.

I did think the asian guy was a bit over-sensitive and Jo is just plain bonkers.

I think it's okay for anyone to cry if they're really upset about something, gender isn't an issue for me :ninja: .

Obviously if someone breaks down in tears cos someone's taken the last fig roll, then I'd suspect there might be other issues troubling them, but if they feel it then it matters to them. I wouldn't think any the worse of someone for crying.

Crying is a very natural release, but if someone is doing it all of the time then they need to be shot.

No there would not!!

Crying is a very natural release, but if someone is doing it all of the time then they need to be shot.

For this reason, there would not be tears.

I've cried at work ... hands up who hasn't!

But not cos I didn't get my own way or cos I wanted attention. ye gods ... me crying face full of snot and mascarra is NOT something I'd want to draw attention to!

I worked (temped) with a man who had a nervous breakdown right in front of my eyes. i didn't think he was weak, my heart just went out to him and even though I was only temping for him I felt very protective towards him when some knob came in the office later mocking him for breaking down ... i gave him short shrift i can tell you. Mind I think he was only mocking this bloke to cover up his own inadequacies.

I hadn't really thought about it before, but I suppose there has been a few tearful moments.

I agree that in the cuthroat world of boardroom business crying is a big faux pas. No matter how much I wanted to I would never cry at work and I am nowhere near boardroom level. It would just do my credibility immeasurable harm.

But I think the situation is slightly different for these people. They are regularly undermind by AS which would not do their confidence any favours, and they are in a hugely competitive situation with the eyes of the nation on them whilst competing. In that sense, they are in a similar situation to competetive athletes, and it is not that uncommon to see the nations athletes cry in face of failure. Doesn't make them any less of an athlete. And to my mind, the fact that some of these people have shed tears doesn't make them any less boardroom material. Its not like the've cried in front of AS, is it? Its all been in their "private" moments.

I've had two bosses who cried at work in front of me! (Both women but I'm sure that's not relevant ... is it?!)

One was very very stressed with no back up from management and her baby girl was very poorly at the same time and the auditors were in ... an horrendous time for her. I think management were secretly glad she cried and it just confirmed for them "that's what women do under pressure". I have to say that she learnt from this and became very hard faced and insensitive into the bargain ... I much preferred the more human Dawn who wasn't afraid to show emotion, but then I'm almost certain she wouldn't have been so successful in her career.
