Hello survivors,

I hope this is coherent after having the most brilliant night. But also after having just seen something yesterday morning on a daily trashy newspaper thought I'd mention it here before I forget.

I have seen a few humourous trailers for kinky boots, and have felt tempted to go and see it. I did see Birdcage which I found to be an absolute hoot. Still I'm tempted to go and see this. There is something though that has kindled my curiosity, an advert for the film has been banned. It has been banned because it is deemed to sexy and offensive.

The advert in question has three pairs of legs wearing boots, coyboy boots draped around a naked man from the rear. The advert was sponsored by a cosmetic firm who asked three actresses to do this shot.

I personally don't find it an offensive photo, even though it is suggestive. The film itself will have a 12 certificate on it.

In view of this, does anyone find the detail of this photo offensive?

Mmmmm...

Kinky Boots eh Advert you say...well without having seen the image you refer to I thought I'd have a look for the image.

So I just Googled it - I Googled it hard (and it's only 9:30)

I don't suggest you do it with safe search off...Of course I did it purely to be sure that you shouldn't...and after 25 pages I was convinced that you shouldn't

There's an French Connection one doing the cinema rounds at the moment...basically two women martial arts fighting - One dressed smart the other less so but fashionably (or so they say) - anyway they have a huge fight which comes to a near conclusion by one pinning the other to the wall and her leaning in a French kissing her.

Now I'm sure many guys out there will find this ad wonderful viewing but to be honest, if French Connection want to sell me clothes they are going the wrong way about it...the ad just makes me cringe...in fact, not that I ever have done anyway, I will never buy French Connectio gear for as long as I live in light of this ad!

I've seen that one on TV Coastie, very strange, very strange indeed.

Although I wonder why hubby watches it intently?

Alot of guys I know like it...all that girl on girl action...but it really just turns me off the whole thing and fails in it's desire to want to make me buy their stuff! :pooh:

I hate this advert too Coastie. Luckily i have only seen it once.

I didnt like the one for Jean Paul Gautier (sp) perfume either that was doing the rounds last year. They had a man and a woman who looked almost identical, and they snogged one another.

The other one recently i hate is the ones for Renault - the 'Shakin their Ass' one. I find it sexist. Why do most of the women in it wear very skimpy clothes whilst shaking their arses, whereas the men are fully dressed and in boiler suits

I've seen the French connection add on billboards only.
It's pretty pathetic...like, girls that skinny can ever pack a punch!!!!!Yeah right! They would snap in two!I am just wondering WHO their target audience is.I personally don't know any men who could find their way to a french connection store, just coz they like that add. It's fairly pointless. It would turn me off French connection if their exorbitant prices had not already done so. (the conversion from sterling to euro is CRIMINAL!!)
I don't find it offensive...just really really dum.And that annoys me enough to 'bad rep' french connection.

Ooo I hate all Renault ads...they are the reason why you couldn't give me a Renault let alone get me to buy one (although if you did give me such a car I could sell it straight on and buy one I liked)....oh and that perfume one..yes horrid, eewy...

I may be classed as a prude but I do not care...I know what I like and it isn't what they're trying to sell!

I dont think its a matter of being prudish. In a film sometimes nudity is required. If i see it, i dont think anything of it. To see a bare bum, boob would not matter in the slightest.

I dont like it for advertising though when it isnt necessary. I do think a lot of advertisers think that sex sells - which im sure in some instances it does ... but a lot of the time it puts prospective buyers off.

Thank-you for putting it into perspective for me Bon Bon...

I agree nudity and sex scenes in films are generally for the purpose of moving the story along...however I don't see how snogging women and gauwdy bum shaking has any relevance to clothes and cars!

In my view, sex 'appeal' (nice guy or girl (for the boys)) may help to sell a product but only in the right context and should never IMO be taken this far!
