View Full Version : Sights we see whilst driving.
Bonsai 09-03-2006, 09:29 AM It has been on the news today that the fines for people being silly in their cars is going to rise.
People using mobiles etc will face a stiffer penalty, and instead of a fine will probably have points put on their licenses which i am in favour of.
But what got me was some of the footage showing women (in particular) putting on full makeup whilst driving down a busy road !!! I mean, some of them were applying mascara whilst driving which is unbelievable ...as applying mascara correctly is quite a skill in my opinion and a steady hand is required.
Ill never forget having to go to the Birmingham exhibition with my then boss, who sped everywhere. He would travel down the motorway doing about 100 mph, and he had one of those speed camera bleeper thingies to alert him so he could brake intime.
On this occasion though he was very late and had come to collect me from my house. We joined the motorway, and he asked me to get a bag out of the glovebox for him which i did. He then proceeded to drive the car with his knees and use an electric shaver whilst looking in the rear view mirror.
When i left the car i felt like getting down on my hands and knees and kissing the tarmac. I have never felt so scared as he continued to drive in the 'fast' lane at about 100 mph whilst doing it.
It took all my will power to get back in that car to go home again, and i never travelled with him after that.
Patsy 09-03-2006, 09:47 AM That's disgusting, Bons. He should never have put you in that position.
I saw this on GMTV this morning, too and I really does beggar belief. The woman has appararently been banned for drink/driving.
Fee For All 09-03-2006, 09:58 AM I once had a boss who was an appalling driver. Now I like to drive fast, but he had to be in front of everyone on the motorway, so he would weave across several lanes, undertaking, overtaking, flashing his lights and so on.
After asking him politely on a couple of occasions, I eventually told him point-blank I would only travel with him if I drove. This became a big joke with him, with lots of pointed comments around the office about women drivers.
What was really infuriating was that apparently his wife ruled the roost and he didn't dare drive like that when she or the kids were with him.
Eventually, he up-ended his car on a country road (it went up on its nose, pirouetted, and then went ar$e over tit several times into a field, according to witnesses). Barstard walked away with a broken wrist. :mad2:

Probably nothing compared with what he got from his wife later, though, eh?
Hopefully it taught him some kind of lesson and he should thank God no-one else was hurt.
Fee For All 09-03-2006, 10:23 AM He was more considerate afterwards Patsy.
And with him having his right hand and wrist in plaster, the theory expounded was that he was less of a ****er.
I believe he was also charged with careless driving - I'm all for more severe penalties for stupid people behind the wheel which to me is much worse than doing 75-80 on a motorway.
Now, you see, I'm confuzzled because I'm not sure anymore whether the second para will offend. To me, I'm having a normal conversation, so apologies Bonnie if you think I'm being serious enough.
Bonsai 09-03-2006, 10:52 AM I can remember taking the same boss as in my first post for a drive. He had lost his license (snigger) through speeding and i had to drive him to a meeting.
The thing is, he made me so nervous. I had to force him to wear a seatbelt as he didnt believe in them .... but its the driver who would get done if we were pulled over so i insisted he wore it.
He left about 5 mins to get 20 miles, so he was practically forcing me to drive very fast. I stuck to the speed limit, but i was really panicy and anxious.
Anyway - we were driving down the A12 and we saw a massive traffic build up ahead so he told me to take the slip road and go cross country. I did indeed take the slip road, went around the roadabout ... and because i was soooo nervous i took the wrong road off the roundabout and ended up joining the A12 again :wallbash:
He never forgave me for that ... and i think he sacked me soon afterwards.
bridge 09-03-2006, 10:57 AM talking about this subject, i always remember a friends dad years ago who would pick us up from various nightclubs and whilst driving he would always dangle his two legs out of the car window to make us laugh, he was stopped by the police loads of times but he still continued to do it! Mad as a hatter he was.

I can't think why anyone would be offended Fee.
I know that people think that drink-driving is the lowest of the low but careless driving like the ones mentioned to me are just as bad. When these people are driving they are fully aware and of sound mind of what they are doing. They are aware of the speed limits and should therefore be in more control.
It's the whole road-rage thing as well that causes so many accidents. Everyone is in a rush to get from A - B, and if you don't move over within a nano-second you are beeped and the finger shown to you.
And where it used to men that were most probably the culprits in cases of road-rage and speeding, women are very hot on their heels!
My ex-boss was exactly the same as Bonnie's boss, he drove everywhere at speed and never had his seatbelt on. He would blast anyone who got in his way, shot & swear whilst swerving in & out of traffic that I dread to have thought what his stress levels must have been. He also drunk and drove on many occassions. He did eventually lose his licence due to having too many penalty points for speeding and I don't know if he learnt his lesson as travelling to & fro from Edinburgh to Glasgow every day would not have been high on his list!
I am as guilty as most people of speeding in places where I shouldn't, although I would admit to this on the dual-carriageway, Motorway but I do keep my speed down in build-up areas much to the annoyance of some.

He shot at people :shocking:

Whoops, that was supposed to be shout!:kid:

OMG! That is one of the most stupid things I've ever heard. You had a near death experience and kissing the ground was smart! :kid:
I don't think people on the road are that bad around here, just some people speeding I guess. I hate the people that get crappy cars, do 'em up, and then drive around like they're the best :ranting:
