View Full Version : Wizard of Oz
Patsy 09-03-2006, 12:56 PM I know a lot of you either live too far away or wouldn't be interested anyway. But for those of you who may, the Musical Theatre company to which I belong is putting on a production of the Wizard of Oz at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley between 5th and 8th April (which is during the Easter holidays for most, I think), including matinees on Thurs, Fri and Sat. It's the Royal Shakespeare Company version, if that's significant.
The Churchill is a fairly large theatre, seating approx 800. Our company, The Ravensbourne Light Operatic Society, are well known in the area for putting on really good productions to a very high standard. More information here (http://www.theambassadors.com/churchill/sp_p2433.html).
We're virtually sold out for the Saturday matinee, but there are still seats for all the other performances.
If you're interested, please pm me. It would be preferable if you get the tickets through me, because we then get some of the profit, rather than paying it over to the theatre. That's up to you of course. However you get them, it would be great to see you.
It really does promise to be a spectacular show (if we ever get all the steps right!!!!).
Groucho 09-03-2006, 01:09 PM What part are you playing Patsy? :)
Patsy 09-03-2006, 01:13 PM I'm in the ensemble. Don't have a main/speaking part.
Groucho 09-03-2006, 01:34 PM Can I let you know how many tickets I need next week? :)
Patsy 09-03-2006, 02:07 PM Of course. :)
Coastie 09-03-2006, 02:25 PM Is this the one where you had to dress as a snowflake?
I would love to come see you perform unfortunately I can't :ranting: Work and life in general plays havoc with my social calendar!
Patsy 09-03-2006, 02:27 PM Go sick. It'll be worth it.
Fee For All 09-03-2006, 03:20 PM I'd lke to come. Is it suitable for a four year old? (Going on 16)
Patsy 09-03-2006, 03:22 PM Well, there is a scarey witch and flying monkeys (yes, really), but if she's not easily frightened and far enough away, she'd love it.
It's going to be really colourful and there's a real doggie and everyfink!
I'd love to come - but Aberdeen is a little too far - sorry.
Break a leg!
Fee For All 09-03-2006, 03:25 PM She's a he and I'll let you know tomorrow
Patsy 09-03-2006, 03:26 PM Great! oops, sorry!
Do the tickets include bed and breakfast?
Patsy 09-03-2006, 05:19 PM Funnily enough, no.
Any serious questions, or am I going to have to call the thread police?
Coastie 09-03-2006, 05:20 PM Go sick. It'll be worth it.
Hmmm....
Sorry can't...I'm saving my first sick day in seven years for the 29th April! :naughty:
Patsy 09-03-2006, 05:22 PM And what, may I ask, is more important than watching me make a complete fool of myself?
Bella 09-03-2006, 05:23 PM Funnily enough, no.
Any serious questions, or am I going to have to call the thread police?
Patsy, like Rob just a wee bit too far away for me but I do hope it goes well. You'll have to let us all know about the reviews etc. I am still in shock that you don't have a speaking part - how on earth did that happen! I see you have your boxes back in full view!
Good Luck!
Fee - you kept that a secret didn't you? All that "don't like kids stuff" was just a smoke-screen! :kid:
Coastie 09-03-2006, 05:26 PM And what, may I ask, is more important than watching me make a complete fool of myself?
You mean Dublin wasn't the real thing?! :shocking:
Patsy 09-03-2006, 05:26 PM Boxes. What boxes? :wink2:
Patsy 09-03-2006, 05:28 PM You mean Dublin wasn't the real thing?! :shocking:
Of course Dublin was the real thing. Acting isn't. That's why it's acting.
Der.
And you didn't answer my question.
Coastie 09-03-2006, 05:45 PM My holiday! :kid:
So you weren't acting at all in Dublin...that really was you...cool...
Now do ya think it's about time you apologised to the country for your antics!
Patsy 09-03-2006, 05:47 PM I have nothing to apologise for. I was the paragon of abstention and good taste, as usual. Ma Coastie, on the other hand, now don't get me started!
:)
BTW, I forgive you for going off topic.
Fee For All 09-03-2006, 05:49 PM Fee - you kept that a secret didn't you? All that "don't like kids stuff" was just a smoke-screen! :kid:
It comes complete with parents
Sounds good Patsy, but like Bella and Rob, I may be a little too far away...
Good luck though
Patsy 09-03-2006, 05:56 PM Thanks Bella, Rob and Peej. Could you buy a ticket anyway, as gesture of goodwill?
Thanks Bella, Rob and Peej. Could you buy a ticket anyway, as gesture of goodwill?
Patsy, you know I would but my card was declined due to insufficient funds today in Waterstones (seriously!)
Patsy 09-03-2006, 05:58 PM I'll take a credit note. :)
Actually that was a serious question:glare:
Anyhow, I shan't be able to attend on account of there being no bed and breakfast facilites, so I shall wish you luck.
When you get a speaking part I shall happily make the effort to attend.
Patsy 09-03-2006, 06:27 PM Actually, I may have a spare ticket as my aged and infirm friend has a rather pressing family crisis she has to plan.
You could come, but you would have to sleep with my husband.
You could come, but you would have to sleep with my husband.
:naughty:   :wallbash:
There's a joke there, but I am too much of a lady..
Patsy 09-03-2006, 06:29 PM Just as I thought, you won't do even do that one little thing for me, will you? :glare:

Patsy 10-03-2006, 02:31 PM Oh, would you? Thanks Bons, you're a pal. His birthday's not until January.

Northern angel 10-03-2006, 02:47 PM Hello Patsy,
Have confidence, everything will be fine on the nights afternoons etc. Have fun.
The very best of British luck.
Adore musicals and would love to see it, I don't in all honesty think I can make it. But you never know. I'm doing a little cross referencing with my masterclass schedule for April so you never know. If not. Good luck.
Maureen

JakeyBoy 11-03-2006, 01:46 AM Good luck Patsy!
So what will you be? A munchkin or something like that???
Or, even better! A tree!!! :w00t:
Patsy 11-03-2006, 05:15 PM I actually wanted to be a tree, believe it or not. It's my favourite song in the show. They didn't do auditions, though. The director just picked people.
msgirl 11-03-2006, 07:00 PM sounds like it was rigged Pats...I could see you as one of the apple trees, throwing apples at poor Dorothy and the Scarecrow!!:w00t:
in a LOVELY apple tree sort of way!! Love you!
Patsy 11-03-2006, 08:09 PM I could, couldn't I? I've since realised, though, that they have to hold their arms up for an inordinately long time and I can still sing the song in the wings anyway.
:good:
Arn't I coming then, I can't remember.
Patsy 11-03-2006, 09:09 PM The ticket is there, Cat. If you're not, no biggy.
The ticket is there, Cat. If you're not, no biggy.
I honestly can't remember.
Patsy 11-03-2006, 09:12 PM Do you really think people want to trawl through endless threads to see if you finally remember?
Do you really think people want to trawl through endless threads to see if you finally remember?
You could tell me, you are my friend.
Patsy 11-03-2006, 09:17 PM Catherine. You are very welcome to come, but you said you might not be able to.
If you can, that would be lovely. If you find that you can't, that's absolutely peachy too.
I am going to look ridiculous in front of hundreds of people. You have to decide which is more important.
Is it the night I'm washing my hair???
ONLY JOKING PATSY WATSY!
Its the weekend before the boys go to spain.
Will there be live coverage?
Patsy 12-03-2006, 08:42 AM Yes, every night, but you have to be there to get it.
Get it?

Pat those costumes are friggin fantistic!!! I thought I was invited to the church village hall. How do they budget for those costumes, they are so impressive - blessed be the seamstress.
Patsy 11-04-2006, 08:11 PM You might have heard "village hall", but I said "Churchill Theatre". 800 seats.
Yes, they were amazing costumes and cost a piggin fortune for us to hire. My green dress was like an all-over girdle and I felt like a million dollars. The snowflake costumes appear from underneath poppy costumes (which I didn't photograph) and the effect was amazing. They and the trees were like showgirls.
The whole show cost £60k to put on. We're the nuts, mate.
Brilliant costumes!
You don't have any pictures of the set do you? (I may have to do the show one day - and any ideas would be useful!)
Patsy 11-04-2006, 09:02 PM I'm getting a copy of a CD, with pictures of set and cast tomorrow Robster. It was a very simple set really, but the principals did a film for the tornado scene and the lighting helped, obviously.
We also had a live Toto, who was the real star.
Fee For All 11-04-2006, 10:00 PM Blimey Pats - it looks fab. Love the Emerald Tity one.
I want to be a snowflake.
Patsy 12-04-2006, 08:05 AM I'm sure you do, dear. I wanted to be a tree, but apparently they didn't have Baobabs in Oz. :(
Seabreeze 12-04-2006, 08:24 AM Pictures are great. Looks like a good time was had by all.
Brilliant pics Patsy, looks like you all enjoyed yourselves. I had to search hard to find you though, didn't recognise you straight away.
I would have wanted to be a tree - the costume looked amazing.
Whats next then??
Bonsai 12-04-2006, 08:36 AM Those piccies are fantastic and you look lovely Pats.
I would of wanted to be a snowflake ... i like the colour of them.
Thanks for sharing :w00t:
Patsy 12-04-2006, 08:57 AM Next is Summer Holiday at a smaller theatre in the Summer (probably won't do that one). Next big one at the Churchill is Oliver and I REALLY REALLY want to do that one.
I think I'd make a great Nancy. :bag:
Bonsai 12-04-2006, 09:06 AM I think Summer Holiday would be great. All that singing and dancing. Do they try and get a Cliff lookalike ?
Patsy 12-04-2006, 09:08 AM Lets hope not. It's all the dancing I'm worried about.
Dolores 12-04-2006, 10:12 AM fabulous pictures Patsy! you all look like pros.
Patsy 12-04-2006, 10:31 AM We didn't charge.
Oh, professionals! Thanks. Oops.....
Dolores 12-04-2006, 11:05 AM do you have a "wardrobe department"? the costumes just look so professional! or did you sew all your own sequins on?!
Patsy 12-04-2006, 11:23 AM We hired the main Emerald City ones from a costumier, but the ladies took our measurements and made the others to measure. They really were amazing. And long, thankfully!!!!
Andrea 12-04-2006, 12:56 PM Patsy, those photos are great.
The costumes, as everyone else has said, are fabulous, sooooo colourful.
It must have been something else to watch all that on stage.
Well done you.
And Oliver, my favourite musical of all times.
"Who will buy this wonderful feeling"
Tigereye 13-04-2006, 03:08 PM Fab Pats - looks really slick.......
any piccies of Toto?:kid:
Patsy 13-04-2006, 03:16 PM No. 'Fraid not. No b!tches allowed in our dressing room. :wink2:

Oh lordy Andrea mine too - that sketch where the ladies sang and danced was filmed in London in Bedford Square no less! Yes.
Patsy 13-04-2006, 06:32 PM ........ and I want to be one of those ladies. I don't aspire to be a lead, oh no. I know my place. I want to be either the milkmaid "Any milk today Mistress........." or strawberry seller "Ripe strawberries, ripe......". But the piece de resistance would be "Who will buy my sweet red roses? Two blooms for a penny."
*gazes dreamily*
