How would you feel?

i was in Asda's today and this woman in front of me and bought a box of red wine ...that's all nothing else ... she obviously was on a mission to get WINE.

Imagine her horror, surprise and indignation when she got asked for ID as the assistant obviously didn't think she looked over 21 ... to me she looked at least late 20s or 30s. She didn't have any ID except a work pass with no d.o.b. on it.

She was so cross that she didn't have time to take it as a compliment and marched off ... sans vino.

Would you have taken it as an insult or a compliment?

Myself I would have just been outraged that I was denied my wine, everything else would have been a blur!

At my age I would have hugged and kissed the Assistant and given her the money for the wine and told her to have it on me :D

Wouldn't bother me...

In fact I am a believer in more proof of age checks in shops, pubs and bars...

To me people who sell alcohol should never be embarassed or wary of asking for proof of age...mainly because if they did it more then there would be less chance of some dolled up 12 year old getting boozed up as a result of their establishment not checking and either dying, getting pregnant or having a nasty accident...or the police finding out and the establishment owner losing their license and facing fines as a result of teenage selfishness!

If I am going of topic please tell me...

but she looked at least 25!!!! at the very least!!

I'm all for Police checks too. I go to a meeting where they give statistics on licencees selling to Under 18s. Our town as a 100% clearance of off licence sales and out 3 pubs one sold to an under 18. So we're not doing too badly and obviously Asda Off Sales must top some poll ... I think I will give a special mention to them at the next meeting!

Dol...you must look like a seasoned drinker! :bag:

Maybe the assistant thought the woman before you looked too up herself or something and figured she'd give an older woman grief on the ID front in the way the assistant normally would if he/she was buying booze!

I went in Walgreens the other day and bought Mr. Ms a pack of ciggies and the girl asked me for my ID...this was BEFORE I colored my 1" roots and I almost molested her!!:naughty: I thought better of kissing her and whipped out my DL and PROUDLY foisted it upon her!!:pimp:

I would be so happy if I was asked for id, in fact I have been known to offer it, in the feeble attempt at a 'joke'.

My sister, at the time aged 22, got asked for id, she went ballistic!!!

In Asda one time buying some booze and when it gets scanned it beeps to ask the cashier if the person buying is over 18. Well this person didn`t even look up at me  I am now waiting for the bus driver to ask to see my OAP pass !!

What a strange coincidence. One of my friends in the pub who is 24 was asked for ID yesterday when buying some plonk. She had some, and bought the booze but wasnt very happy about it.

I would of been delighted, but alas noone has ever asked me. Even when i WAS underage i still bought booze as i looked older than i was.

Several years ago on one of my all girls pub crawls. One of our crowd had to constantly carry ID with her to prove she was 21.

The reason for this was that she was a serious anorexic, and she at the age of 30 actually looked about 14. So we always made sure she carried not only her birth certificate but some other identity with all the essential details on it.

Sadly she is no longer with us. She died weighing 4 stone 10 oz.

I would not have walked off in the huff, I would have been quite delighted to be asked for proof of age now that I am the wrong side of 30!

I think it was just an over-zealous shop assistant, maybe new in the job.

It's a bit like the story that was on the news about the old dear who went into a pub for her lunch and was asked to remove her hat as it was hatless pub!! I think it was mentioned somewhere that people had to remove baseball caps as they were seen as the dress of being a yob, but I hardly think that a granny in her 70's would have done much damage!
