View Full Version : Mascara??
Ok girls - who has the answer?
Who follows the adverts and buys all the ones that are featured in 'Titanic', 'Life of a Geisha' and 'Pearl Harbour'??
I have to hold my hand up to the last one - I buy all and every mascara that is advertised - mainly without success.
I did find a pretty good one, and I can't remember its name, but it was the one Jennifer Aniston swore by, it didn't smudge, or run and when you washed it of it came off in tubes.
Since then I can't find it again and have a miserable time with all the others I buy.
Share those secrets .... please!
tigger 13-03-2006, 07:46 PM I don't. I buy the ones that work for me best, and that comes through trial and error. And of course, the price might have something to do with it. :)
Do you think expensive mascara is better than the mid priced ones?
Andrea 13-03-2006, 07:48 PM I don't follow the ads either.
actually edit to say that once I did. I bought one of those mascara's with two ends. You know, first it goes on white to supposedely plump the lashes out, then the other end goes on colour. Used it a couple of times, I actually can't stand the stuff.
I just bought a new mascara last week, (had the old one a little bit too long) and basically looked at the prices of them all in Boots.
Eventually picked a £4 one, and its great!

Come on then Andy Pandy spill the beans - for £4 if it doesn't suit I can't go wrong!!
I buy the ones that work for me best tell me, tell me - I have a deep seated need to know about mascara, and I am willing to try all.
I just wish I could remember that one that worked really well - I can't even remember where I bought it.
And Andrea - the two tone ones are a bit pants, aren't they, they all seem to go a bit thick and gooey!
tigger 13-03-2006, 08:19 PM I like the Maybelline mascaras best Flip. The great lash one is pretty good I think. It's like a bright green colour with a pink lid. And reasonably priced to boot!

It's a Rimmel one, Extra Super Lash.
HTH
:good:
floopy 13-03-2006, 08:40 PM Lancome Flextencils is the only mascara for me. I've tried all the others, but none can beat it. It's expensive, but worth it.
Like me. :pimp:

Thanks Tiggs - I shop in a flurry of indecision - so colours really help.
And beleive me when I say, any good makes mentioned her I shall buy and try, I am a sucker for mascara!
Going back to the two tone ones Andrea mentioned - I have even been known to blow dry my eyelashes inbetween coatings, of the white and then the black.
kookycat 13-03-2006, 09:24 PM i have tried many different mascaras!! best one for me that i always go back to after being unfaithful and trying something else is Great lash by maybelline, same one as tiggs, its light enough so my lashes stay all curly and adds length!! most mascaras are too heavy and weigh my lashes down. also a mac one was good once but that was ages ago and i tried to repeat that success but the new ones arent the same.
Bonsai 13-03-2006, 09:32 PM I never liked the Maybeline ones. I found they smudged on me.
I like my lashes to look like spiders legs, so i like one that gives my lashes a good coating. I always shove 2 coats on.
My fav is a Clinique one. I only use it though when my parents buy it me for Birthdays / Christmas. In between i tend to get L'Oreal and i normally pay about £7 for one of those.
I hated those double ended ones. According to the advert they should fully coat my lashes with white gunky stuff - but barely any came out .... so it wasnt worth the hassle.
Patsy 13-03-2006, 09:35 PM I've always used Boots No.7 Hypo-allergenic (classy, me). Used it for years.
msgirl 14-03-2006, 12:44 AM It's expensive, but worth it.
Like me. :pimp:
LARF!!! I'm sorry, did I do that out loud??? I feeeeeel bad rep coming my way!:naughty:
Bella 14-03-2006, 08:33 AM I have tried them all, at the moment I am using The Body Shop one. It isn't that great but it will do until it is time to get a new one. Do you know you should change your mascara every 3-6 months as tons of bacteria gets clogged onto the brushes and you should never, ever pump the brush in & out of the tube.
My favourite has been Max Faxtor, can't remember which one it was but I will probably get another one of those to replace the Body Shop one.
maxine 14-03-2006, 09:06 AM I don't stick to any particular one. At the moment I'm using Boots No 7 cos I had a £5 off voucher.
I remember when I was younger and I used to wear bright blue mascara and eye liner.:ninja:
floopy 14-03-2006, 10:41 AM You're all rather down-market aren't you?
:pimp:

You probably get yours off the market stall in Pitsea.

I wouldn't know about that, is it a bit like one of those car boots sales things you see advertised in muddy fields? Not really my thing I'm afraid.
:liftsnose:
MariaRob 14-03-2006, 12:15 PM Dont forget girls when you apply mascara put it downwards on your top lashes (behind) not just upwards on your top lashes if that makes sense. This tip was given on one of these make up programmes and it really works!

IT DOES, IT DOES - ty ty ty ty ty oh MariaR.:smartie:
I asked Mr F to go out and buy me the one that was advertised on the telly, that had a yellow rubber brush, it is the L'Oreal one [recent ad].
So off he went and returned with the correct mascara - but I went a bit ballistic with him when I opened it and the brush was black.
It took me a few moments too ..... :bag:
Bella 20-03-2006, 08:19 AM You do realise of course, that some of the cheap mascaras and the expensive ones are made by the same people - I am sure that l'oreal (despite now owning The Body Shop), is actually linked to Lancome. They are all just packaged differently and sold at double the price.
Dolores 20-03-2006, 07:50 PM I use Avon longest ever lashes ...longest ever my ar*e!
I buy most of my make up from Avon, but apart from mascarra and foundation I find everything else lasts for years and years ... i'm sure it's not hygienic to have eyeliners for that long!
mazwad 20-03-2006, 09:30 PM Maybelline lash discovery One by One is the one I use at the moment. I have never taken much interest in mascaras just picked one up and tried it out. I don't wear it often so I use the same one for ages very unhygenic I know but I am a cheapskate.
Pandora 20-03-2006, 10:45 PM L'Oreal Lash Architect is really good. It doesnt go clumpy, gives masses of length and a nice curl.
Ive also got a lovely one by Guerlain, which cost an arm and a leg. Its great but not worth the money.
I cant stand the brush on white stuff and then brush on mascara, its a bloody clumpy nightmare.:glare:
