Well, Mothers Day is looming. Do you spoil your mum or do you think its a commercial rip off ?

I tend to get my mum a card and a small gift. I dont spend too much as she shouts at me if i do.

Mr.B always gets me a card from the animals ..... which is completely daft but kinda cute.

Same as you Bon, a card and a small gift. My mum thinks it's all a rip-off. I might get Gigi to help me make a card this year :ninja: .

My mum and mother in law have both passed so I will just be awaiting a card from my daughter. My present I will be getting in April when I go down to see her as apparently it`s too big to post.

But you have a wife, who is a mother and I'm sure you spoil her rotten, don't you?

We just send flowers to our respective mums. The thing is Mr B's mum is 70 on Saturday and it is my mum's birthday the week after Mother's Day, so we take them out for their birthdays.

Mr B's mum does mention that we don't go out but his brother & his sister do, but they don't have mothers in law........well, they do they just don't speak to them!

Actually when is mothers day?
I usually just get a card for both our mums.

I know they do stuff at school for us mums and I had a sneaky peak at what my oldest has done, when I went to the parents evening.
It's a poem that he's made up himself and it's lovely, although there were a few words I couldn't make out in the middle, maybe that's the bit saying, mummy always shouts at us:laugh:
The teacher said i shouldn't have seen it, it was supposed to be a surprise. Then why put it in the pile of books and files for me to read then!:wallbash:

My momma complains that EVERY day is Mother's Day.:D As she is always on the go.
Apart from the commercial aspect..spending wads on flowers and cards and now these compilation cd's (urgh!!!!!!) I DO think it's nice that momma's get acknowledged and spoiled a bit. Some people probably dont' need just one day to be nice to their ma's.....but lets face it..tons of the rest of us do.
I always like to get her something for herself...clothes or perfume or the like.
She sooooooooooooooo deserves it.

March 26th Andrea. :)

I find Mother's Day really difficult. This may sound harsh, but I just don't have all the gooey sentimental feelings for my mother. I struggle with it, I really do. And that's not because I don't want to have those feelings for her.

Aww, Tiggs I am sure you are not alone with that feeling but you are a mum, therefore the day should be special for you.

I think it's a complete farce, to be honest with you. The same goes for Fathers Day and Valentines Day.

I've sent my mum some flowers and we're taking MIL this Sunday cos it's way too expensive on Mother's day!

My kids are complaining that they'll have to 'waste' some of their money on me. When they were young my husband never did anything on their behalf, because he said I was their mum and not his.

Well I don't have a mum, and I don't buy a card for Mr B's mum - he has to do that much at least.

For myself - I will receive breakfast in bed, which will consist of a mug of tea, bowl of cornflakes and if last year was anything to go by a crumpet sandwich, which is one crumpet between two bits of toast (a unique invention don't you think?) all delivered at 7am, which is about two hours too early, but the thought is there.

My own mum is long gone and Mr M's mum is in hospital so a card will suffice and know she won't be remotely interested in that.

My eldest son is taking us out for a meal along with his girlfriends parents, they are lovely people so I am looking forward to it.

Yeah it is a bit of a rip off isn't it? especially when you feel obliged to buy those stupid cards with ' Happy Mothers Day from your Grandchildren! ' but i do buy my mum far too much, i buy a present off the kids for her and one from me and hubby, my mum is in her 70's , so i like to spoil her when i can.

Well since I'll be working on the big day i shall be unable to treat mum to a meal out down the local so I guess I shall nip to the shops on my days off and see what I can pick up... Failing that I might see what she's upto Friday night and take her out for a premature meal...hmmm now there's a thought! :naughty:

Commercial rip off but if it brings all the family together for the day then it's fun. Don't like spending money on cards but always feel a meanie if I don't bother, but a plant or flowers do instead.

I've bought a great card for my mum - on the front it says 'For a Mum who is simply....' then you open it up and Tina Turner belts out..."Your simply the Best, better than all the rest". It cost £4.50 but I dont' care, if it raises even half a smile from my mums sad confused face it will have been worth every penny.

For myself I dont' hold up much hope for even a card.

I'm past caring now.

Made the usual mistake of asking Mama Coastie if there was anything she ha dher eye on that she may like for Mothers Day this year...

She said yes...a CD called 'A Stone Alone' by (she thinks) Bill Wynham...okay...'ho well' I thought and then promptly agreed to the gift and somehow I'm taking her out for a meal down the local aswell on Friday night! :wallbash:

Me and my big mouth...

Still..at least Mama Coasties worth it!

When my friend moved to New York, she got a hard time from her mum over here as she didn't get a mother's day card (as there were none in the shops in March) because of the difference in the days.

Hehe, ditto. My Grandma one year just couldn't understand why I hadn't sent any cards over. No matter how many times my Mum tried to explain, she just couldn't get how mothers day was different. Bless her.

Oh gosh...I can remember being terribly confused when I was in the States during May...I saw all the cards etc. in the shops and it took my friend and I a good hour to convince ourselves that we weren't going bonkers and that we had definately already done Mothers Day that year

'A Stone Alone' by (she thinks) Bill Wynham...okay..

Just to make it easier when you buy the CD - it's by ex Rolling Stone Bill Wyman

I hope she likes it - but i think she will as she loves that kind of music.

I have had to get up early even though its mothers day as we are looking after my sons dog and no one told her the clocks have changed.

Later on today Mr M's brother and sil are coming for lunch and then we will all visit his mum in hospital. I haven't seen the rellies from Wales yet that are staying with Crit but they might call in later.

I expect to see youngest son and family some time today and this evening eldest son is taking me out for a meal so looking forward to that.

My son's ex girlfriend may call in some time today as we are still friends, I have this horrible feeling that they all may converge at once. He is picking the dog up sometime this morning and as he doesn't drive his present girlfriend will be coming too so I hope they manage to miss one another.

Happy Mothers Day to all you mums out there I hope you all have a lovely day.

I'm in the middle of cooking Sunday lunch. My son has just rolled out of bed and is studiously ignoring the fact that it's Mothers Day. He can't fool me though - he came in my bedroom yesterday to get some wrapping paper. My daughter is yet to make an appearance.

I've just uncorked the wine so I'll probably be asleep by about 4!

Update

I got a make up bag and some candles from my daughter and an exfoliating mask and some bath salts from my son.

My daughter made me a lovely card and the words brought a tear to my eye - 'thank you for all the things you do for me'.

They boys (care of their father) bought me 3 books and a card each. Youngest buzzlet also made me two cards and a bookmark....

Got a lovely card from my daughter yesterday and in it she wrote "can`t wait to see you in April and you will love your mothers day present". She has just phoned and when I asked what my present was she replied " I don`t know yet I haven`t bought it but you will love it !!! ".

I got woken up this morning about 10am by hubby bringing in tea and toast for me. But he had an ulterior motive, he wanted me to get up to watch the kids cause he was going bait digging.

Anyway, got the obligatory cards from both sons on Friday after school. and lovely they were too.

My oldest had written a poem in his, it goes...

"My mum is lovely and like a rose.
She looks like a pretty princess.
Sometimes she says 'stop it Sean'
and I love her."

I couldn't help but laugh at the 'stop it sean' bit:laugh: but apparently he did all that by himself:wub:

Hubby then came in from bait digging with a plant for me, bought hastily from the shop:laugh: He is now off fishing and I took the kids to the park.
So nothing really spectacular for me, although I wasn't expecting anything different.

Celebrated Mothers Day on Friday since I've been working today...

Cooked Mama Coastie her fave beef curry then we went to the pub and had sticky toffee pudding and a couple of drinks! It was really nice!

Spent all day yesterday in bed as not well. Today woke up at 6am put a load in the washer, Mr Cat took the boys to footy...they did arrive upstairs at some time with cards and chocs (which they will eat). Managed to shower and change and do a couple of hours college work, am now half getting ****ed and half preparing dinner. Rapidly losing interest in dinner - their fault should have done it them selves.

I have desided this is the last time for a while I do a sunday roast. If no one else cares enough to cook it then I can't either.

I shall spend the time relaxing like everyone else in my house does.
