View Full Version : Do you google everything
mazwad 18-03-2006, 08:33 PM I wanted to make a bread pudding like my MIL used to make and I searched every recipe book I have and couldn't find a recipe for it. I knew the bread had to be soaked in water and the only other thing I could remember was that black treacle, mixed spice and suet came into it somewhere.
Mr M visited his mother today and I told him to ask he if she could remember how to make it and the ingredients. Unfortunately she could only recall bits and pieces not enough for me to go on. My next thought was google, the only problem here was that if I typed bread pudding it kept coming up with bread and butter pudding not the same thing at all.
After a fruitless search thought of wartime recipes and when I googled that there it was or almost. No mention of black treacle but it did have marmalade in it, I have replaced the marmalade with treacle and it is now cooking. Fingers crossed it will be good as MrM has promised his mother some.
So it seems that most things can be found on google it never ceases to amaze me.
BTW if anyone has recipes for bread pudding can they post them as I am not sure yet I have it right.
Islandman 18-03-2006, 09:21 PM Yes, I google everything...and when anyone else asks me a question that I don't know...i always just say 'Google it!'
You really can find just about anything that you need to know on google....and I'm amazed that many people just sit and wonder about things rather than simply google it to find out...it really takes no time at all. So convenient.
Patsy 18-03-2006, 10:05 PM Yes. I am a constant Googler. So much so, that I actually think it has helped to reduce my power of recall.
Nothing to do with my age, of course. :bag:
Fee For All 18-03-2006, 10:47 PM I google. It's educational.:smartie:
But I went to a bookcase and dug out my grandmother's recipe book for this one -
English Bread Pudding
Leave 4ozs of mixed currants and sultanas to soak until plump. Drain well.
Put 1lb of old bread in a baking bowl and pour over enough cold water to cover it. Leave till bread is soaked through.
Place mixture in muslin cloth and squeeze out the liquid.
Chop 3ozs of suet and mix well with drained fruit. Stir in 1 tablespoon plain flour, ½ teaspoon of allspice and 1teaspoon baking powder.
Add 2 oz sugar and one tablespoon treacle.
Add sufficient milk to bind the mixture.
Place mixture into a square tin, then place this in a roasting tn partly filled with water.
Bake in the middle of a medium oven until nicely browned.
Sift with sugar while still warm, then cut into squares when cold.
Why bother Googling when we can just 'Fee it':w00t:
Cockney 19-03-2006, 10:34 AM No I have a brain with a memory amd everything ( or I ask Fee )
Bonsai 19-03-2006, 11:15 AM I google everything. I get annoyed when the new Yellow Pages or Telephone Book arrives as i now have to dispose of it as i will never even open the pages.
If i want anything, from a chimney sweep to a rat killer i will google it.

Googling is free............:pimp:
mazwad 19-03-2006, 12:36 PM Thanks for the recipe Fee I will give it a go. The one I put together yesterday was ok but needed more spice according to Mr M and my boys and also needed to be cooked in a deeper tin. The final test is to take a piece into MIL today to see what she thinks of it.
floopy 19-03-2006, 02:23 PM I google loads of stuff, but Fee is usually more selective and accurate than google :pimp:

Coastie 19-03-2006, 09:06 PM I google more images than stuff...have stumbled into dangerous territory on more than one occasion doing this though and did actually report one search to the 'Crime Stoppers' site as one of the results that popped up on the image page was more than a little disturbing.
msgirl 19-03-2006, 09:30 PM I think Fee's 'defcon sites' are the best...wonder when she works??:pimp:
