Another early fave of mine, one of the "dubbed" ones was Belle et Sebastien. And White Horses (loved the theme tune to that one). Heidi. Cristaltips and Alistair. Rhubarb & Custard. Magic Roundabout. Jackanory, just before the news, usually with Bernard Cribbens or Kenneth Williams.

Quite liked Playschool, but absolutely loved Playaway.

I loved Belle et Sebastien too Patsy.

The other foreign ones I liked were The Singing Ringing Tree which was on Tales From Europe (very dodgy sets) and Captain Zeppos which was Belgian, quite boring, but strangely fascinating.

Patsy
20-03-2006, 09:50 PM
The Singing Ringing Tree rings a bell (no pun intended). They're all flooding back to me now. That picture reminded me of this.

http://media.bestprices.com/content/dvd/10/243213.jpg

When they break his sword and throw him out of the army, very dramatic.

I remember Marine Boy, Dol. Didn't he used to chew something called "Aqua Gum" to help him breathe under water?

Then of course there's all the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson puppet shows. My favourite was definitely Captain Scarlet. Is it wrong to fancy a puppet?

Oh goody - I don't feel so ancient now ;) To be honest, the first thing I really remember was Listen with Mother (or was it called Children's Hour). I used to love listening to Daphne Oxenford reading the stories of "My Naughty Little Sister". Aaaah the memories

Since we're down memory lane, how about all those comics, Beano, Dandy, School Friend, Girls Crystal, I loved Enid Blyton's Sunny Stories, and then later on Valentine and Romeo (usually with a free plastic bracelet). :)

Wow! This thread's really got me wallowing in nostalgia...

The Flashing Blade was one of my earliest "must see" TV serials...(and probably one of my very first crushes:blush: )

http://www.jedisparadise.co.uk/childrenstv/Flashing_Blade/Flashing_Blade9.jpg

I remember it having a truly great (and incredibly corny) theme tune - oh well, that's the French for you.

Mr Benn was (and probably still is) one of the best young kids' programmes ever made....Dangermouse remains captivating (my kids hijacked my "trip down memory lane" DVDs of those and I haven't seen them since - guess it's a testament to the series' longevity).

Also happened to see a few episodes of The Adventures of Black Beauty on an English-speaking TV channel in Holland a couple of years ago and that brought back a huge number of memories....

Somehow Xiaolin Showdown just doesn't seem to hold the same magic.....

Bob

But one of my all time favourites was

These lyrics used to make me cry...

1979 LYRICS

There's a voice that keeps on calling me
Down the road is where I'll always be

Every stop I make, I'll make a new friend
Can't stay for long, just turn around and I'm gone again.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll want settle down,
Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

Down this road, that never seems to end,
Where new adventure, lies just around the bend.

So if you want to join me for a while
Just grab your hat, come travel light - that's hobo style.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll want settle down,
Until tomorrow, the whole world is my home.

So if you want to join me for a while
Just grab your hat, come travel light
That's hobo style.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll want settle down,
Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

Instrumental Bridge

Maybe tomorrow, I'll want settle down,
Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

There's a world, that's waiting to unfold,
A brand new tale, no one has ever told,

We've journey'd far but, you know it won't be long,
We're almost there and we've paid our fare, with the hobo song.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll want settle down,
Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

So if you want to join me for a while
Just grab your hat, come travel light - that's hobo style.

Maybe tomorrow, I'll find what I call home
Until tomorrow, you know I'm free to roam.

Calimero was a little bird with an eggshell on his head who got the blame for everything bad that happened in his village. His end line was always "it's such an injustice"..........done in a French accent, at least I think it was French. He tried so hard to fit in and just as things were going well, something would happen and he would stand accused. He was ever so sweet!

It's an urban myth, Tiggs. There never was such a character. Neither was there a Seaman Staines or Roger the Cabin Boy.

I only realised today that I have actually met Terry Nutkins in the fleisch. My dad arranged for myself and one of my sisters to pat the Dolphins I don't know where. But it was Terry who organised it. I have (or rather someone does - I will find it) a great pic of me and my sis stroking dolphins sporting nice spotted red head headscarfs - I would have been about 12 (1977).

Anyhow I will endeavor to find the photo.

I just wanted to boast really.
