View Full Version : Where's the best place you've been?
I'd have to say my favourite was Las Vegas. Where else could you walk down the glittering strip sipping cold coronas or massive margaritas while getting propositioned by legal prostitutes? Where else can you wander into different casinos in the wee small hours and get free drinks whilst betting? Where else can you find a bar that does any drink you can think of for $1 all night then stumble back to your hotel at 4:30am and have a big slap up meal? Only in Las Vegas. Marvellous place! Too hot though.
Patsy 21-03-2006, 05:53 PM I'd probably have to say my honeymoon in Zimbabwe and Malawi. A long time ago, now, but a fantastic experience.
Best place recently would be Barcelona. I'd go there again tomorrow. Loved it.
Dolores 21-03-2006, 06:23 PM I'm not really an international jet setter like some folks, but my most favourite foreign place has to be Paris ... oooh I love it, so classy, so beautiful and so much to do and see.
My fave place in the UK is the Isle of Wight (if I was a millionaire with a helicopter I'd move there!)
I also love London but after 20 years away from it, could never imagine living back there ... far too hectic and noisy, but very exciting when you are young and got a bit of money! ahh those were the days!
I loved Paris - so much to see and great food and wine - but I've yet to go to a place in France that I haven't liked!
Hard question peej!
I think a little bookstore in San Fransico was the place I felt more at home in than I have anywhere else.
But I then I think that Malcesene on Lake Garda in Italy is sublime.
I just dunno really!
kookycat 21-03-2006, 10:41 PM my fave is Hong Kong and each time i go i discover something different and experience something different, it is truly a dynamic city. such a culture difference and its so wonderfully western but traditional at the same time.
not to mention the shops, oh i could go on, the most chicest boutiques, designer labels, fancy architure shopping malls (one i went to had a roller coaster in it!) small cramped markets selling everything you could imagine! tiny boutiques selling cheap cheap clothes. fake handbags, fake trainers. my friends are still jealous of my nearly real chole paddington. hah who needs a wait list? granted it still cost me £50 but its worth every penny.
Aondeag 22-03-2006, 09:48 AM My fave place is Rome...I just love it.It's got SUCH a good buzz.It is romantic...beautiful....busy.....austere.....yet very human.A city of 4 million people, but they would give you the time of day.And the food....DEELISH!
Minklemar 22-03-2006, 10:31 AM For me I think it has to be Florence........we try to go at least once a year.
It's such an interesting, romantic beautiful city.
I'm planning on getting married there next year.
Bonsai 22-03-2006, 11:16 AM My fav place isnt exotic, but i love a place in Portugal where we used to go.
We always went to the same hotel, and got to know all the staff and people in the restaurants. They made us feel like royalty, and the beach, resort was 1st class.
bridge 22-03-2006, 03:49 PM Here :it has to been Bonny Scotland, loved it there so much, the scenery was awesome, am taking the kids over this October half term, i can't wait.
Abroad: i loved Daytona Beach, it had a vibe thing going on, and of course enjoyed the view through the telescope...................................of the men in their skimpy shorts PHOAR.:naughty:
mazwad 22-03-2006, 05:52 PM Plitvice National Park in Croatia, it was absolutely stunning. It was also my first trip abroad so I think that made it particularly special. We visited Croatia three times before the war and loved it there.
Fee For All 22-03-2006, 09:07 PM I've been to some fantastic places, but if I was told that I'd have to spend the rest of my days in just one place, I'd go for London for the sheer variety of stuff to do.
But I'd want lots of money to enjoy it properly. Nice house on Cheyne Walk overlooking Albert Bridge would do for starters. With a roof garden. And staff.
Simple tastes, me :pimp:
Tigereye 24-03-2006, 03:37 PM Fancy a houseguest?!! G & T's on the roof terrace at sundown?
reminds me, must do the lotto this weekend..........
Although I Lurrrrve travelling abroad on of my 'special' favs is a little island off the coast of west cork. Beeeutiful quiet sandy beaches and one great little pub.....
takes 5 hours to get there though. Longer than Morocco! [another fav]
Coastie 25-03-2006, 08:12 AM I don't really have a best place...everywhere I have been blessed to travel has alwyas been and adventure that I have enjoyed for different reasons...

Uganda...what an adventure...scarey at times but very exciting!
France...sailed on a tall ship to visit so that was the amazing part about it!
Italy...just a wonderfully chilled time!
Spain...a laugh from beginning to end!
Yugoslavia...meaningful...ambition filling!
L.A....my all time dream holiday that didn't dissapoint!

Switzerland...singing in the mountains...marvellous!
Ireland...Dublin/Cork/Shannon - fanbloomingtastic!
Wales...life in the wilderness...brilliant!
Scotland...scarey yet exciting!
I think every place I have visited has provided enough excitement and adventure with the right company that I have enjoyed them all and would recommend them all...

Why was it scary? Did you meet some neds called Wee Gav and Chantelle who had their tracky bottoms tucked into their socks? I agree that would be a scary sight.

I've did that ghost tour before as well and agreed - it was very creepy. Doesn't help that you're trying to appear macho in front of the Mrs

I never forced you to go to the dungeons, in fact I think I remember telling you to stay away! I haven't even been there myself and don't intend to! I loved the history part of the ghost tour and walking down the old closes. In fact I would have to say that Edinburgh is probably one of my favourite places, steeped in history but with a modern touch also.
Done a tour of the East Coast of America - Washington, Boston, New York, Altantic City and Philidephia and would love to go back. I don't think I could pick a City as a favourite as each one had something special.
There is a wee place on the west coast not far from Oban called Tayviallich and I used to go there for my summer holidays as a child and it was just so tranquil and beautiful.

I've been there too. It is a lovely place. But I think you need good weather to really appreciate it.
Bellatrix - did you know they have a website? Here it is: http://www.tayvallich.com/

You know something it, everytime I mention this place there is always someone who knows someone there or has been there. I have family there on my dad's side who are in their 90's now. They used to have a holiday cottage that they rented out.
Thanks for the link PJ! :good:
You are right about the weather but when we were kids you did seem to get fab weather. Skimming stones in the bay was a highlight for us and I used to be amazed at how far my dad's stones could go!
Bella 27-03-2006, 08:38 AM We spent our honeymoon in York and loved it! How exoctic eh? York reminded me of Edinburgh as it was so compact and you could walk everywhere, or jump on a horse & carriage, plus there was the tour bus you could just hop on & hop off.
The visitor attractions are brilliant and we loved the Railway Museum, Yorkminster is just amazing and I loved the little streets & vennels.
kookycat 29-03-2006, 07:05 PM bella i had to work in york for a few days and thought it was a lovely city!! loved how the city walls were intact and all around the centre!! i would definately visit again, one night i noticed a lady dressed in medieval gear taking a bunch of people on a tour so she must walk around the city showing them things. i wouldve liked to have done that! unfortunately most of my time spent in york was sleeping in my hotel room!
