OK this is for weekend style city breaks only. The idea is to have a list of possible options or places to avoid
1) City
2) Time of year
3) Upto 5 High Points
4) Upto 5 Low Points
If you want to open a travelogue start a specific thread.
Here's one from me
1) Barcelona
2) Autumn
3) i) Gaudi buildings
ii) Gaudi buildings (theres so many)
iii) Food
iv) Shopping
v) Getting about
4) i) Going on a cheap airline to Gerona and wasting time on a coach
ii) n/a
iii) n/a
iv) n/a
v) n/a
Going back next weekend but with a twist!! watch this space

I was going to do Barcelona, Slip. Add to list of pros:-
Parc Guel (also Gaudi)
Most people speak English (or don't laugh at you if you try to speak Spanish)
Great tram and underground system (as in your "getting about")
Barceloneta
Gothic quarter
Camp Neu (esp if there's a good match on)
cons:-
only one for us, wouldn't really want to go in the sea as it's a port and the water's quite yukky.

3 Luxemburg Gardens
4 Fab jazz clubs
5 Shops
1 Like slip - using cheapo flights with airport 60k away :wallbash:
2 Parisiennes:laugh:

Seville
Spring
- sunshine
- orange blossom
- beautiful place/architecture
- can walk the town
- restaurants
didn't find any cons - although just to say it's better for adults not kids.

Well..............Got back yesterday morning. All the same above applies but did the journey with a twist.
Oph and I took my Mother. Nothing different there but this time we took the Eurostar Business Class to Paris, hopped on the metro to Austerlitz station (8 stops on ligne 5) and connected with the overnight Hotel Train all the way into central Barcelona. Good food and booze on both legs. Most civilised way to travel.
Weather fine (unlike here) so slapped on the sun creme and sunnies. Good food there as usual, LOADS of walking, bit of drinking, nearly no shopping. RESULT
Oh and the return journey was the same....slept like a log all the way.

I'm not very experinced on the whole city weekend break front but have to say I would recommend Dublin...having been there on a meet I am dying to return to do the things I never got to do last time!
1) Dublin
2) Any (although TE and Aon may say otherwise)
3)
i) The city tour bus (even in the wind and rain)
ii) The Guiness Factory (hic!)
iii) John O'Garritys Bar (check spellin')
iv) The Dublinier (a great place to learn about the history of the city!)
v) The people (Te & Urk in particular!)
4) No low points as I remember it!

2) Spring or Autumn
3) i) Piazza Della Signoria - sitting on a nice day with a campari and soda people watching
ii) Ponte Vecchio
iii) The Uffizi
iv) Fantastic food
v) The indoor market (mercado centrale)
4) i) Meals and drinks can be very expensive
Slipper - your trip sounds like a very civilised way to travel.......I thought about going to Italy by eurostar/train, but not managed to sort anything out yet.

I went there in October, Gat. We were still in T shirts, but it did rain a bit.
Not a city - but worthwhile anyway!

Do
1 - Go to the Festival theatre
2 - Go in Spring/Summer
3 - Visit the Edradour distillery
4 - Watch the salmon leaping
5 - Go to Robertsons in Atholl Road to buy whisky - amazing prices
Don't
1 - Go in winter - it's cold!!
2 - Buy whisky at Edradour Distillery - It's cheaper at Robertsons!!
