Where would you like to vist?

Why?

How long for?

...and all that jazz!

One place I would like to go is New Zealand:

I'd like to spend a month at least travelling around. It is such a diverse country for it's size I have always been fascinated by it. I would like to go white water rafting and I just love the accent

Perth, Australia.

My dad's friends lives there and I also have a couple of friends who have been there. They all say that it really is a wonderful place to live/visit.

One trip before I end up in the big sandbox in the sky:

1) I really, really want to see the Northern Lights

2) get there by husky train, and shout "Mush" all the way

3) big roaring log fires in log cabins along the way

4) hear wolves howling every night as the fire burns down

Maybe the odd Camberwell Carrot along the way, but thats optional

I'd like to go back to south america. The last time I was there I stayed with my relations in Maracaibo, Venezuela, and although they're a great bunch everything was kinda family orientated, the political scene was haywire and it wasn't safe to mooch around on your own, so don't feel I saw the real Venezuela.

Next time I want to hop over to the island of Aruba off the north coast which was planned for the last trip but cancelled due to a family dinner [argh], and also get the two hour flight down to see Angel Falls.

Can I recommend Indonesia?

Not Jakarta, too big and smelly, but definitely a pretty interesting place to visit and you won't regret it.

Or, if you are hard core. Phnom Penh Cambodia. Forget any concept of "cultural experience" you think you have had. Cambodia will re-define it. Stay in a place called the walkabout, cheap, and nice and safe and central. You will never be the same again. Sample an extra-happy pizza, rocket launch a cow, fire an M16, just a normal day in PP.

I'd like to go to Patagonia and then take a boat trip to Antarctica.

Also Montana for a cheesey pretend-cowboy holiday.

*Canada, and you'll find several reasons why here... http://sca.uwaterloo.ca/vacations/

*Barnsley - I've always wanted to see Barnsley, particularly for the Museum of Slippers located just on the outskirts

*Want to wander aimlessly all over France, particularly the mountainous regions, coastal areas, and south of the country on the Mediterranean...and i want to do it all without drinking a single drop of wine - Kronenburg 1664 will suffice

*Would like to see the coastal parts of Brazil - Rio in particular. But i'd like to do so without being mugged or kick-boxed to kingdom-cum just for a lousy £3.38 equivalent of my souvenirs money. But my main reason for wanting to go to Brazil is so i can join in on the beach soccer with a few of the locals and startle them with my wonderous skills...:pooh:

*Las Vegas - I love neon lights but i hate losing money...dilemma.

I want to go to the UK, to see y'all...then go to Scotland to trace the ancestral roots.

Next place would be Hawaii. It's gorgeous, I don't need a passport, I love blue, clear water, and the waterfalls.

New Zealand as VOR has told me they have NO SNAKES and I've seen it on the Travel Channel and it's gorgeous as well.

I've lived about 45 mins from New Orleans most of my life and I love it, but it's old hat. I've lived about 1-1/2 hours from Gulf Shores, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida, so we were ALWAYS over there. I still love it though. I've been all over Memphis...although I could probably see more interesting things there but it's not a compulsion.

I have a placemat size picture of Tahiti at eye level on my work table in my classroom and when the kids are napping and I'm working on my curriculum plans, I just glance up and take a deep breath of imaginary heaven...especially if I have my little fan blowing my face and hair!!:applause:

Always a fun topic, as when I got to the UK I couldn't understand a lot of things, eg the the world cup has teams from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales while the Olympics has a Great Britain team (is it Britain or UK? If Britain who do the NI people compete under?)

Then it got to the Union Jack and where that came from, which was even more confusing.

So, just to make sure I understand now, can you please correct me if I've figured it out now? My understanding is:

1) Breat Britain = England, Scotland, Wales
2) UK = Great Britain + Northern Ireland + some islands
3) The flag is made up of the colours of:
a) England (which was a single country clased as England and Wales at the time, so a single contribution of the white background and red cross)
b) Scotland (the blue bit)
c) Ireland (united Ireland at the time)

Hi..the flag representing the north of Ireland on the union jack is the 'Cross of St.Patrick.'A red cross on a white background. It was never actually the flag of Ireland. It was added to the union jack after the Act of Union in 1801 (boo!) Throughout history it was associated with various groups and families, (The Catholic Confederaton..the Fitzgerald Family etc. ) But it was mostly associated with the order of St.Patrick which was founded in the 178o's.., and as he was our patron saint it was deemed an appropriate representation of Ireland. Before that there was no specific flag of Ireland, tho' the harp was used quite a lot . The tricolour we have today was a gift from the French, after one of our rebellions.(1848)

I wanna go to the Yukon now...my freind has just come back from her third trip out there and it just sounds soooo amazing!

I am hoping, if I can get all the gear together, that I can go out in February 2007...it will be minus 40 and I hope to be working as a marshal for an enduarnce race...this will almost certainly be me! :cold:
