Can someone please check something for me? Is e-bay down at the moment?

I have put a selection of clothes and someone has came back to me with an offer but I need to respond before 3pm today. However, I can't seem to access e-bay, I can't get into "my e-bay" and can't reply back to the person. It keeps coming up with "cannot find server".

I just wonder if it something to do with my settings as this has happened before but I can't remember how I rectified it.

Cheers!

I managed to get it, I had to reset my PC to yesterday as I knew it was working then and managed to accept the offer!

Thanks!

I have had a right mare with one of my buyers....they bought the book set and I had a problem with them paying thru paypal with a credit card so I would have to upgrade my account - remember??? Well the books were returned a couple of days a go I had put 7.... in stead of 71 for their address. DOH...would have to be the friggin books wouldn't it, friggin £5.50 postage.... I was tempted not to post them again the blokes a bit dense and gave me a feed back saying 'thankyou' before he had paid me. However I have 100% feedback reputation to consider.

Never mind.

At the moment I am stocking up with light summer trousers and have come across a couple of beauties I thought I would share:

How about these, they have the heading @LOVELY TROUSERS@
http://i10.ebayimg.com/03/i/06/b6/00/fd_1_b.JPG
Lovey my ****, apart from the crutch being shaped in an OOOOOOH! shaped fashion they are horrid.

And what about these....DAVE JUST CLOCK THAT CARPET!
http://i22.ebayimg.com/02/i/06/b8/5b/9f_1_b.JPG
...and I wonder what that wire is eh?

and finally a very confused message - arn't combats supposed to be baggy, say no more:

Luvverly trousers Cat :wink2:

As I've said before, I'm always selling stuff on ebay for Mr C, bits of radio control stuff, but have never bothered selling anything myself.

I was rummaging round the bootsale last week and I found this jacket in a heap on the floor.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v611/liberated60s/jacket3.jpg

The guy said "everything 50p" so although I knew it was too big for me (being a size 22/24) I bought it and put it on ebay. I thought it must be worth a couple of quid to some larger lady who wanted to look a bit trendy.

It sold for a staggering £17.50 + £3.50 p&p  I felt a bit guilty actually. I doubt if it was much more than that brand new

Thanks SB. I do though, even with Mr C's stuff I think "whoa! - it's not worth all that".

I hope she was pleased with it. The feedback just said "speedy delivery" - I was hoping for "nice item" or "well pleased" or something just to put my mind at rest. I thought about doing a "Cat" follow up email asking if she was happy with it but probably best I don't in case she says no :D

No don't feel guilty, it could have been just what someone wanted and you saved them the trouble of getting the bus into town (£3.00), spending a whole day trudging round and buying lunch (3.50) then finding what they wanted £29.99. Total £36.49 so you saved them £15.49.

However.

Jackets like that sell 10 a penny at local charity shops from about £3 - £5. Lazy sods deserved to be ripped off.

Well done Critters 'Don Marco' The Denim Lady.

I have a baby carrier, a few leftover nappies & wraps and some jewellery up for sale at the moment - the baby carrier is leading the way and is selling for £27 at the moment with 5 days to go. I bought it for £50 and used it loads, so it's been a good investment! Nothing on anything else though! :(

They are re-usable nappies, Bob. I sold a huge lot for over £100 and I found this one plus a couple of covers when I was having a clear-out.

i got the ebay selling bug at the mo, gonna put on a few books and i was wondering how much p+p i should charge, one is a heavy textbook that would cost heaps to send, so you think £8 is reasonable or will that put people off?

the other is gillian mc keiths you are what you eat book £4??

You are probably best to weigh them in the packaging then look at the post office site to find out what it will cost you and work from there.

Another way is to look at what other people are charging for sending books if you can see something you know is a similar weight ;)

Bella
08-04-2006, 05:06 PM
Kooky, I would weigh it first and then charge accordingly. I sold baby clothes about a year back and ended up out of pocket as I didn't charge enough for postage.

This site tells you what the charges are:

http://www.tilehurst.net/infopool/postal_rates.html

Cat
08-04-2006, 06:46 PM
I guessed and was out of pocket with a pair of boots, so now I weigh everything with my little kitchen scales and have printed off the Post Office rates. Then I add on about £1.50 to cover expenses - packaging etc - a new large jiffy bag can cost a bit, then theres the tape and lable.

Good luck Kookypants.

Right, now I've started selling on ebay. I've put 3 blouses on and someone has bid on one of them and sent me a message saying she wants to bid on the other 2 but what discount will I give on the postage. The blouses are at 99p and I was charging £2.50 each for postage. So, anyway I replied saying I'd make the postage £5 for the 3. She thinks this is expensive but has bid for the 3 anyway. So she's going to be paying £7.98 and it'll cost me about £3 in postage so I make a measly £4.98.

So, my question is to anyone who sells on ebay. Am I being reasonable? Obviously if 3 different people bid I'd be making another £2.50. It's all small potatoes really but I'm worried she's going to give me negative feedback because I'm charging too much postage.

Bob
20-06-2006, 09:28 PM
She shouldn't give you negative feedback as she isn't forced to bid on your stuff. Personally I think your postage is high unless your blouses are bullet proof. Has she actually won all three items? If not there is still time to make some money on the items themselves.

I've yet to sell on ebay yet but I want to start soon. So far most of my purchsases have been maternity clothes and out of the five items i've bought I've only really been happy with one becasue the others are a bad fit, but I've left positive feedback as they were all as described and packaged well.

You can't give someone negative feedback if you get exactly what is on offer

maxine
21-06-2006, 06:27 AM
I had a really nice message from her actually. She told me that it's against ebay rules to make a profit from the postage but she's willing to pay the £5 but that I shouldn't admit putting up my postage charges to anyone else! Oops. I think in future I'll increase the price of the item and put minimum postage.

Actually im a bit annoyed with an ebay seller. He is part of a company selling Mazda hoods. So i emailed him a few times asking him what hood i would need, and he told me very promptly. If i went to his company website the delivery time was 15 days, but if i bought off ebay the delivery was 2 days after the cheque had cleared.

So i ordered off ebay.

Anyway, i posted the cheque off, and it cleared last wednesday. But he never advised me that he had received the cheque, and he hasnt told me when it will be delivered.

I emailed him yesterday asking if he could give me any idea of delivery - and i havent heard back from him.

I hope i get it soon as the hood on the car now is letting the rain in.

I bought an item on ebay for £15 on Friday. When I went to the Pay Now, it had payments as personal cheque and Paypal with pictures of all the credit cards. I paid as usual with Paypal with my Mastercard and the transaction has had the automatic confirmation.

Then at the weekend I got an email sent direct to my Yahoo account (not done through ebay) to say that she didnt take credit cards (?) and could I send a personal cheque. It definitely has all the credit card symbols and I cannot see where it says she does not accept credit card payments. I have never had a problem when buying stuff before. Can anyone advise me?

Maria, check your paypal account to confirm that payment was definitely taken off. I would certainly query the fact that you were taken directly to Paypal as if this is the case, then the seller has a paypal account set up.

If, as I think it will that your payment has been verified then I would contact the seller to state that you have already paid and ask when the goods are being sent.
