View Full Version : G4 - what did they say? maxine 01-11-2004, 02:30 PM I missed the first programme on Saturday and during the itv 2 programme Kate mentioned that one of the guys from G4 said something to Simon after he criticised them. Does anyone know what was said? Voice of reason 01-11-2004, 02:38 PM Yes Max, The blonde good looking one told Simon that he (Simon) was using a choir (to enhance their sound) with his own acts but was failing to see that what G4 did, and what made them unique was that they were actually doing this for themselves. Cat 01-11-2004, 02:41 PM The blond ones called Jon....couldn't tell you any of the others names tho  maxine 01-11-2004, 02:42 PM Thanks Voice. Bless him. He's a love that one. Bella 01-11-2004, 04:00 PM One of the others said something as well, but I can't remember what it was. I kinda got what Simon was saying though as it wasn't the best performance from G4. I do like them, but would just like to see them doing something a bit different. When they first came on and done Bohemian Rhapsody I thought they were brilliant. I was watching the Scottish News today and there was a band that Simon Cowell has signed called El Diva (I think that was what they were called) but they are 4 classicily trained guy who are just like G4, but nicer looking! So, when Louis goes on about G4 being something we ain't seen before, he is wrong because Simon has beat him to it! :p Voice of reason 01-11-2004, 04:10 PM I have been trying to think what it is that I do and don't like about G4, because although I think they are different and therefore more interesting than the usual pap-idol fodder, I do have some reservations. I have decided that what I don't like about them is the fact that in covering stuff like 'Don't look back in anger' and 'Everybody hurts' they kinda sound like something your Dad or aged uncle would listen to and then tell you that they like 'modern music!' A bit like a 'Pan Pipe Moods' album, you like the songs in principle but the treatment they give them takes the edge away and just makes you feel a bit embarrassed and cringy for them! Does that make sense? I think they got away with 'Bohemian Rhapsody' because it is already operatic in nature and it just works acapella. Andrea 01-11-2004, 05:02 PM It's the flying pickets all over again.:D Dolores 01-11-2004, 05:05 PM [QUOTE=Bella]One of the others said something as well, but I can't remember what it was. It was something like "you want angry, we can do angry" he said it full of menance and a mouth full of plums! I just can't stand these four ****s, they irritate me and I feel embarrassed for them! Bella 01-11-2004, 05:10 PM LOL!!! Although G4 aren't the best looking band, and not that looks should come into it, they are definitely not as scary looking as the Flying Pickets! You do realise Andrea, that some of our youngers members will be saying The Flying Who..............?! However us oldies know exactly who you mean...........sadly! It's the flying pickets all over again.:D Mars 01-11-2004, 06:19 PM The flying who? ;) Voice of reason 01-11-2004, 06:56 PM *Clips Mars around the ear* ;) Blimey yes! that's it! The Flying Pickets. Lordy how off putting  jaycee 01-11-2004, 07:23 PM Oh G4 are MUCH better than the Flying Pickets Completely off topic, I just bought the Il Divo album out today & it is FABULOUS Cat 01-11-2004, 07:30 PM It was something like "you want angry, we can do angry" he said it full of menance and a mouth full of plums! I just can't stand these four ****s, they irritate me... Blimey Delores let it out  maxine 02-11-2004, 02:58 PM Excuse me but why has this thread only got a one star rating? What's that all about? I would insert an angry smilie but still haven't worked them out yet! Groucho 02-11-2004, 03:34 PM The problem I have with them is that they make every song sound the same. In terms of longevity, I think the public would bore of them before they got their first single out! :sleepy: Minklemar 02-11-2004, 04:14 PM The problem I have with them is that they make every song sound the same. In terms of longevity, I think the public would bore of them before they got their first single out! :sleepy: I feel the same way about they - I really rated them at first, but you soon get fedup of hearing the same thing over and over again. Flip 02-11-2004, 04:53 PM As much as I admire [and quite like] their style - in the present blandness of 'pop' music - I have to agree with Grouchy and Minks - we will tire of them. However - I heard a record on the radio this morning, which I thought highly appropriate for G4 - and it was by Erasure and I can't remember the name, but it goes 'that you give me no soul, I'm so in love with you, that you give me no, that you give me no, that you give me no soooouuul, I'm so in love with yoooouuu.' I immediately thought of G4 when I heard it and thought - bingo!! I immediately thought of G4 when I heard it and thought - bingo!! One of my all time favourite records, from 1987 if I'm not mistaken. It is called A little respect, and is a fabby song and reminds me of teenage heartache and angst. G4 would do this brilliantly I'm going to have to dig it aout now and dance round my hairbrush Bella 02-11-2004, 05:30 PM Thank you Bob!!!! I have been singing that tune, I knew the tune but just couldn't remember the song! It was brilliant wasn't it, but then Erasure were a fab band! I saw them in concert, oh about 12/13 years ago and they were just amazing!! :p Dolores 02-11-2004, 07:43 PM Them singing "look back in anger" - had me roaring with laughter whilst simultaneously cringeing with embarrassment! I thought the gallaghers were fussy about who covered their songs, I seem to remember a big furore over Father Abrahams (he of the smurfs fame!) wanting to record Wonderwall and them being all arsey about it. Bella 02-11-2004, 07:55 PM Didn't some bloke with a weird looking hairstyle and big collar............Mike Flowers, was that his name..........do a cover of Wonderwall? girl friday 02-11-2004, 10:27 PM You're right, Bella - the Mike Flowers Pops did 'cover' Wonderwall......so no, I guess they're not hugely fussy! As for Il Divo, they're Italian, so I suppose technically Louis Walsh is right in saying that there's nothing in this country like them. Bella 03-11-2004, 07:18 AM There is only one Italian in Il Divo GF, they are made up from Spain, Austrailia, Sweden and Italy.........I think?! Sylvia in Stilettoes 03-11-2004, 11:07 AM They aren't the first anyway. The Opera Band have had their cd out for a while but haven't had much promotion. They are really good. :) Dolores 04-11-2004, 07:43 PM What song do you want G4 to sing next week? Let's pick their next angry young man's number! What about something by Black Sabbath - that would please Sharon and it would make me laff alot!! Voice of reason 05-11-2004, 07:34 AM Or perhaps something by the sex pistols? ;) floopy 05-11-2004, 06:30 PM I think they should try Jumping Jack Flash, now that would make me larf. PJ 06-11-2004, 04:49 PM Nope, sorry. Don't like G4. They were ok to start with - kind of like a breath of fresh air amongst all the other 'singers' but now im just tired of them. And I didn't like the way they spoke back to Simon - he's just trying to help them for god's sake! PS - maxine, I gave you a 5 star rating ;) Coastie 07-11-2004, 07:40 AM I think they ought to sing: Doo Wop - by Hanson ;) I once heard a G4 type group sing a song about '3 Blind Jelly Fish sitting on a rock....and one fell off'....it was hilariously funny (and was meant to be) - maybe they ought to go for the novelty hit market....I like em but think Louis is doing them no justice whatsoever! :ranting: Actually...I wonder if they could do 'Remember your a Womble!' :D maxine 07-11-2004, 08:30 AM PS - maxine, I gave you a 5 star rating ;) You're a love Peej. :D Sorry but 'Hit me Baby One More Time' was a cr@p choice of song and I put that down to the smarmbag Louis. I think they should do some of the old Darts stuff. Remember them? However, I still think they out performed everyone bar Rowetta. Minklemar 08-11-2004, 12:26 PM Last week I thought G4 were awful and I expected to have the same reaction to them this week - but I thought what they did with Hit Me Baby One More Time was excellent. |
