I hope i have spelt the above correctly.

Apparently there is uproar that BB have put a Tourettes suffer in the house for people to ridicule. What do you think ?

I personally think that Pete has embrased (sp) his illness and decided to make the best of himself. He is manic, noisy ... and i have a feeling i will warm to him hugely. I hear he swears uncontrollably and is very hyper .... which just sounds like every other housemate to me.

I guess he made it when the bearded lady called in sick?

Has he really got Tourettes though? I mean fully diagnosed etc.? To me he just seems like a young Lee Evans - leaping about and trying to be funny all the time. Notice he calmed down a lot later in the evening.

He reminds me of Lee Evans too, Crit. I do think he has it, but, as with many sufferers, they can play it up when they want to.

Actually, watching him last night on the live feed, I think he does have Tourettes so I take back what I said about him making him up.
But I just feel there's something not right with Channel 4 exploiting someone with a disorder like this. Sure, he's making the most of it but it just doesn't sit too well with me. Especially since Davina has already made a fool of him by pretending to have a 'tic'.
Also, I thought that throwing himself down the stairs was a bit much.

He has said that he is comfortable with and makes the most of his condition (although this may be a front) and he has gone into the competition with his eyes wide open. You could also say that it would be discriminatory if he wasn't chosen. It's a difficult one, but lets face it, it will make good telly. :wink2:

Will it? Forgive me for saying this - I know he can't help it - but I have the feeling that he'll end up being extremely irritating.

Although it'll be good if he suddenly announces who he's nominated :applause:

Will he exaggerate his condition? Yes. Will he be irritating? Yes. It will provoke discussion (like this :wink2: ) and cause friction/division within the house.

I agree Pats. It will be interesting to watch him in there.

PLUS - in my eyes noone forced him to go on a show which millions of people watch. He has auditioned, he has accepted to go into the house, and i hope we will see what Tourettes is all about. If nothing else, it will highlight the condition that many suffer from.

To be honest, I applad Big Brother for putting him in there.

They must have known the flack they would get. Yes it gets them publicity, but surely it will be a lesson for everyone

Firstly, it'll show the viewers what tourettes is really like

Secondly, it'll show how people cope with living around him

and thirdly, it'll show how Pete copes with it all.

I for one find it really interesting. Yes, I admit, it can be funny. Not the fact his condition is funny (it isn't, and he can't help it), but the reactions of the others. (I.E George's face last night when Pete called him a w**ker as soon as he went in)

I think there is no point in NOT picking a man with tourettes. After all they are all people and it will just bring awareness to the subject. After all, Nadia didn't do too bad for the 'novelty' transsexual did she?

I think Peter is going to be a favourite of mine.
He was OTT last night....but then most of them are on the first night.

Someone from a Tourettes support association was on breakfast TV this morning saying he shouldn't have gone on the show and they way that he embraces his tourettes could have a negative effect on other sufferers as most people with the condition prefer to try to hide it. Also he was worried about kids at school mimicing Pete and upsetting other tourettes sufferers.

But, so far I like him and I'm glad he's there. (if only I'd picked number 2 rather than number 11)

Anyone who goes in there has to be prepared to be ridiculed. They've all seen it before, they all know that. It's not as if Pete is mentally incapable of making his own decisions.

I agree, he wanted to do it, why shouldn't he have as much chance as everyone else of making a complete **** of himself.

Pete is his own person who happens to have Tourettes.

Tourettes has a spectrum of degrees, some so mild go as undiagnosed and just accepted as an excentricity of that person.

I can only see good for Tourettes awareness that Pete is in there.
